Cattle class Indians, which we indeed are - Tharoor was right
by Amreesh Reddy on Apr 19, 2010 11:21 AM  | Hide replies

This guy was not fit for Indian Politics. Possibly before landing into Indian Politics he should have taken a lesson or two from Our beloved Mayavati, Mamta, Lalu, Reddy Brothers.

He didn't understand that we Indians don't like someone giving the candid opinion. When he said we most of the people(Indians) are "Cattle Class" (which we indeed are), he couldn't imagined that Indians won't like it - because we like buttering and pampering and die a death of a beggar, instead of working towards becoming better and live a ve and decent life.

Alas! we Indians should have considered it in a ve way and started working to become better than cattle class. But that's not the Indian to think positive

Hats off! U judged it correctly, reminds me the outrage several indians had when dalai lama suggested to work harder like chinese.
We made it a habit to listen to undue praise, for very little thing we have.
But in this case common public was behind tharoor, but sonia will anyways have the last laugh!

It is sophisticated corruption!
by VASUDEVAN V on Apr 19, 2010 11:19 AM  | Hide replies

The general feeling among the masses is that if educated, well to do persons come to politics, probably corruption can be weeded out. Sashi Tharoor had all the qualities that makes the educated masses feel happy about the politician they have voted for. However, he has proved that corruption is beyond education. The only difference is, while majority of the politicians are corrupt per se and you can see on their faces that they are corrupt, Sashi Tharoor used his background to use sophisticated methods to be corrupt. What else one can say? As one paper put it, the `sweat money' is perhaps dowry that will be used together in future by the receiver and Tharoor! Having used such sophisticated methods, he has the audacity to say that he has always been honest in his public dealings and has never been questioned for his financcial dealings! If this is what honesty is all about, I dread to think how bad dishonesty will be? It is the Sashi Tharoor types who are more dangerous to the society than the average types in politics, who everyone knows is corrupt. What a fall for Sashi Tharoor. I for one am not at all convinced by his arguments of his honesty and it is better that he keeps silent and allow the matter die on its own. The more he speaks, the deeper the hole that he has dug becomes!

and to add i can bet ravishankar parsad and bjp took money from lalit modi to make an issue of this and force tharoor to resign.it was all well planned.
remember ravishankar parsad a bjp leader who shouted most on this issue is BROTHER IN LAW OF RAJIV SHUKLA WHO IS A AGENT OF PAWAR AND LALIT MODI.rajiv shukla was a mere journalist who becomes millionaire just by CHAAPLOOSI nd crook.
Modi not only slapped a cop on duty in jaipur stadium for just entering his cabin he went evn further.
in ipl's 1st edition in 08 at mohali he,ness wadia nd zinta abused a police officer on duty at a high post as big as senior superintendent of police.and guess wht instead of pushing charges against modi, wadia punjab govt transferred that honest cop who was trying to stop them from smoking in a no smoking area of stadium.
so this is nt the 1st time modi,a clever fox, has preyed on people who don't follow his rules, with his black money and nexus wid politicians and underworld.
tharoor issue is a small issue as we have murderer like narendra modi, sajjan kumar, advani etc etc, corrupt like lalu, mayawati, mulayam nvr resigned.so baheyo apne aap ko modio say bachao,j desh to tabah kar dengey.

Mr.Raj: My post is very clear. I have categorically stated that every politician is corrupt per se! But we trust educated persons like Tharoor, who has also turned out to be a crook - a sophsticated crook at that. He is more dangerous than the average crook whom we know is a crook. It is not BJP vs. Congress, but an ordinary crook vs. a sophisticated crook!

UN Under Sec Gen
by Dhiresh Kukreti on Apr 19, 2010 11:18 AM  | Hide replies

This article is biased and not worthy of commenting on its contents. I dont think Dr Tharoor can be a UN Under Sec-General just like this. No other person has reached that position. Some misjudgement may happen but saying anything anyone feels like is not good. Have some respect and shame. Also author needs understanding how politicians knit political support base.

There is nothing great about becoming a UN Under Sec General, for that matter even the UN Sec General. It is all a matter of circumstances and Buttering the right people. The UN itself is an organization who's credibility is questionable...

We all know what it takes to become the President, or Prime minister in India. Do not confuse people...

We all can see what is happening, right in front of our eyes...

Resignation enough?
by Sebastian Cherukanam on Apr 19, 2010 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

Shashi Tharoor was blaming the media by saying that he had been doing hundreds of good things as Minister but the media never paid any attention but when a scandal like the IPL one comes up, media gives wide coverage to it. This is another wrong notion Indian politicians keep in mind. He doesn’t even consider the hundreds of good things he had done as his responsibility as the Minister, instead consider them as some extra-ordinary things he did for which he must be rewarded. If so, what he thinks his responsibilities as the Minister?

Tharoor is not an exception. After allocating fund for some agriculture program to Kerala, Pawar pretends as though he has done some favor to Kerala and that too giving out fund from his own pocket! He and all ministers in general forget the very fundamental democratic principle that is once in such a position, it becomes a natural responsibility to look beyond party/state boundaries and self interest and work for the people who represent.

Now coming back to Tharoor saga, is his resignation an adequate punishment if the corruption charges against him proved right? If so, any minister can plunder the nation and then just resign from the post and then lead a luxurious life thereafter. I say, this resignation must be considered as the first step in the process and once proved guilty; he must be put behind bars.

Now Congress asked Tharoor to resign, why? It is because he has not a party like NCP behind him to threaten the government of withdrawing support. Are all others enjoying life in the Capital good Samaritans? Tharoor’s resignation must be the beginning.

Then what about MMS receiving bribe worth Rs.50 Lakhs from Infosys in the name of an award to her daughter? Why I repeatedly taking this issue up to tell that even the most respected leaders do corruption in one form or the other in India. A clean sweep is the need of the hour.

Sunanda Pushkar, after surrendering the ‘SWEAT’ Equity wishes Kerala and cricket in Kerala well! Who is she to wish Kerala? When accepting Sweat Equity worth Rs.70 crores, was it love for the cricket, Kerala and the Malayalees there in her mind!! I just wonder how some people consider themselves as extra-ordinary and even Gods and their confidence in them of befooling everyone around them forever!!! She surrendered her Sweat Equity means she already received or will get much more than that in some other from those who are the real players and therefore, her and her associates’ complete financial and other activities must be monitored in future.
After getting elected as the President, Obama told the Republicans that though you didn’t vote for me, I am your President as well and therefore, will serve you all. I say this is the mindset one elected representative must cherish after a successful run in a democratic process and that is in fact both the power and beauty of Democracy. But in India, we have Congress Prime Minister, Dalit, Communist, BJP Chief Ministers, Congress/BJP/NCP MPs and MLAs (even the President acts like a Party’s representatives sometimes!). Can anyone show me an MP or MLA who represents the people as a whole like what Obama said after the election? In India, it is not Democracy but PARTICRACY that prevails and that is the tragedy India faces.

Divided we stand

Mr. Baru suggests that it is regionalism that has helped Tharoor build a support base. The fact is - in India everything is driven by clannish attitude and that is how the country stands. It is a wonder that the country is not falling apart; and no wonder that the regions / peole with least clannish feeling are comparatively less developed / underprivileged.
Mr. Baru's piece would have been complete had he stated - how & on what premises Dr. Singh chose to put up Tharoor as candidate for UN Secy. Gnl. against Mr. Ban Ki Moon.

Resignation of Tharoor.
by nagarajan ranganathan iyer on Apr 19, 2010 11:14 AM

It is a wise step. Where money is involved especially with woman these are the consequences. He has a bright future but his approach towards situations are casual. He has to wholehaeartedly involve in administration and run the show. This issue may be an eye opener to a lot of politicians of good in intention. What is important is need of the hour. His involvement to this IPL was not necessary. There are important problems in this nation to attend by a personality like Mr Tharoor. What is important is credibility transmission which he will acquire and almighty will give him a chance to come back with flying colours. Please introspect. With regards, NRN.
