Tharoor
by arungopal agarwal on Apr 19, 2010 11:11 AM

Tharoor is not only one in eye opening of the people in relation to the style of functioning of bureacracy in India. If allowed independently, every bureacrat has minted in India crores during his service, politicians have surpassed them too. These rulers of todays India are living in Eureopean style in every walk of life.

Shashi Tharoor's fate was sealed on Sunday at the core committee meeting, when finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and defence minister A K Antony, the two-member probe team on Tharoor's conduct, submitted a damning report.

Contrary to the junior minister's claim of "arm's-length mentoring" of Kochi group, the findings said he actively negotiated the "sweat equity" for Pushkar. He had, in fact, asked for 10% for Pushkar while the deal was finally settled at 5%.

This revelation was crucial in reaching the decision that Tharoor had to go.

Tharoor types are more dangerous than the Laloo types!
by VASUDEVAN V on Apr 19, 2010 11:07 AM  | Hide replies

The general feeling among the masses is that if educated, well to do persons come to politics, probably corruption can be weeded out. Sashi Tharoor had all the qualities that makes the educated masses feel happy about the politician they have voted for. However, he has proved that corruption is beyond education. The only difference is, while majority of the politicians are corrupt per se and you can see on their faces that they are corrupt, Sashi Tharoor used his background to use sophisticated methods to be corrupt. What else one can say? As one paper put it, the `sweat money' is perhaps dowry that will be used together in future by the receiver and Tharoor! Having used such sophisticated methods, he has the audacity to say that he has always been honest in his public dealings and has never been questioned for his financcial dealings! If this is what honesty is all about, I dread to think how bad dishonesty will be? It is the Sashi Tharoor types who are more dangerous to the society than the average types in politics, who everyone knows is corrupt. What a fall for Sashi Tharoor. I for one am not at all convinced by his arguments of his honesty and it is better that he keeps silent and allow the matter die on its own. The more he speaks, the deeper the hole that he has dug himself into becomes!

I couldn't agree more with you on this. It saddens me to think that even an Ivy League education does not guarantee honesty and integrity in a person.

Tharoor has cleverly stitched up a support base
by pravin nair on Apr 19, 2010 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

Sanjaya baru like all columnists writing for rediff has again indulged in intellectual masturbation.>What support base is he talking about?
Is he so foolish to understand a simple fact that tharoor was in the United Nations and would have been secretary general..He didn't need a support base..His work did the talking..if u check his record before this, he ahs been known to be an exceptional statesman..A person who is oxfor educated and with such incredible credentials doesn't need gulf malayalee's support..what a laugh!
He could have chosen to stay abroad in plum postings but came back because manmohan singh called him..and he is a loyal indian..Everybody thinks Tharoor is all about twitter when actually he is much more..granted, he fell flat on this case since I guess he pushed someone he loved..But again, he ahs not directly benefited from the transaction..also, there are such big crooks in the government itself.Laloo, sharad pawar. mayawati..Tharoor has just become the scapegoat and the opposition wanted blood..thats' all..it is good he is out, good for himself. The shitty world of Indian politics didn't deserve his brilliance or a man of his calibre.

Stepping stone to success-Tharoor support
by Alice Janho on Apr 19, 2010 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

A NEW INDIA with Shashi Tharoor is emerging with the youth in India supporting the brilliant and intelligent Ex UN undersecretary General. What he has done for India is building good relations with Middle EAST and diplomatic relations with international countries knowing languages and being a genius in public speaking.Jealousy and Envy has bought him to this situation where all leaders want to look speak and have everything like him unfortunately none can do it .For 63 years India has reeled in poverty 300 million go to bed hungry ,Cryogenic engine crashes into sea and there is failure everywhere and here comes a successful man who has the best of everything rich dynamic higly Qualified debater elocution child prodigy hard working techno savvy and well dressed.Naturally jealousy got the better of all and sundry and much of what we are seeing is of the fear that he may become popular and a Prime Minister when several criminals ,dynasty boys dunces are in line and will never see primeministership in their living lives.Fear and envy bought this result for tharoor. Its a sad day for all Indians ,young and honest as well as for India .Shame on those who took this decision on flimsy grounds and backed up a IPL commissioner ridden with convicted drug charges, kidnapping robbery and set up a bad example for millions of young Indians ,the NEW INDIA will never allow this man or look upto the corrupt politicinas instead may charge Tharoor to eventually gain his rightful position.

Tharoor is neither a saint. There are people like Dr. Abdul kalam who are quiet but efficient. Your comments on ISRO failure shows your mean mentality. All countries have ups and downs when they grow. You are a wolf crying for the lamb

You are right. They are jealous the attention he is getting from the media and he outshines many of them.Especially the northern lobby don't want to see him shinning. They got very good support from the National media. This very unfortunate to see a person like Tharoor is not in our Ministry.Very sad for Indian democracy.

Hi, Nobody now talks about Mr. Modi who has coolly executed Shashi Tharoor with POLITICAL GODMAN contacts.

Throor should come back with experience of handling such situation, by keeping the right salami at right GODMAN's door - which Mr. Modi has done and managed the show not only to shut Mr. Throor now, but also to shut & side-track Mr. Dalmiya & Mr. Kapil Dev in the past.

Mr. Tharoor be cool and have a learning course at LAVASA.
