Strange
by Shyam Sunder on Oct 08, 2009 12:52 PM  | Hide replies

See how strange and odd it is! For so many years nobody knew him as Indian or bothered about what he has been doing. Now when he got the Prize everybody owns him, tamilian says he is tamil, others say he is Indian, Americans say he is American settled and married to American. So person judged by somebody else' recognition, not his own accomplishments. If at all we care to bring out the talents in millions of such guys striving hard within this country and those who cannot afford to go abroad, talent would stay in this country and flourish. How do we otherwise justify owning him after sending him abroad over three decades ago?

I'm am myself a Tamilian. I think this kind of talking will not help our country. That is the main problem we always talk on state lines instead of India.
And we all get beaten up in Australia!

why NOT? Veerapandia Kattabomman from Thirunelveli District, Tamilnadu who with this small army fought bravely against British troops; VOChidhambaram who fought agsinst British and run his own shipping company against British; Tirupur Kumaran who fought against the British to save our Flag; Dheeran Chinnamali who gave much troubles to the British tropps, etc, etc, etc. Many people may not know these brave warriors but that didnot deny the history and fact about those warriors from Tamilnadu. I really feel pity for your ignorance on the history. You please wake up from being regionbased talks into national integrity.

You gave us all things by which we are very proud of you.
Electricity, Air/Water/Road Transport, Landline/cell/Television, Solar Power/Hydro Power/Nuclear Power, Computers. In return we gave abuses to you. We have been always jealous to you. Before you came to India, We were Madari, Bhikari, and Pujari only. Even today we are fully dependent to you on spare parts, new development of science and technology but we do not forget to abuse you people every now and then. Our some people like Mulayam/Lalu/Amar sing and party like CPM/CPIM do not like you and they want to abolish English as well. Actually it is our characteristic as you know. When your former P.M Churchill said freedom should not be given to India as these Indians will destroy the India’’ he was right but our short sighted Leaders like Mohan das karamchand Gandhi and his colleagues did not listen” what he said was right. Today our people are so greedy that every middle class boy/girls want to study and wok in your country, for that even they pay Rs. 8-10 Laks to agents. Our Indians are trying to get convert to secularism so that they could tell you we are like you only but please do not trust us as we have double standard everywhere. We have double standard in speaking, working and even in eating also. More than Mr. Ramakrishna, I congratulate you as without you it was not possible.
Thank you, your community and your Country JINDABAD.

Tamil Double Standards!!
by pUnKy bOy on Oct 08, 2009 11:56 AM  | Hide replies

It is a real shame to see the Tamils here showing double standards over a matter which is of national pride.

The Nobel Prize winner is of Indian origin but the newspapers in Tamil Nadu are flooded with headlines "another Tamil wins Nobel" and likes of that.

It is a sad state that the state which launched parties (DMK and AIADMK and god knows who else!!) to propagand the anti-brahmin and anti-north indian feelings in the masses suddenly changes its colours and embraces a tamil brahmin...(m sure this camouflage will even put a chameleon to shame)!!!

For one second, can't these Tamils (or read Tamizhs) rise up the parochial mindsets of caste and creed.

Most of the time, they keep loathing the tamil brahmins and north indians, thus making the state of Tamil Nadu a living hell for anyone who's not a Tamil. But when suddenly somebody wins an award... they suddenly try to get into the limelight.

height of double standards. No wonder, most of the Tamil Brahmins have settled elsewhere. The feeling of hatred for TBs and North Indians is percolated inside the tamil population so much, that you feel like an alien in your own country.

It's a shameful thing...but why would any Tamil care... they hardly consider themselves a part of India...for them their Tamil Nadu is a country which doesn't need anyone. Right??

and as for useless bollywood... m in chennai...so i get to read the tamil newspapers...tas wat i quoted... and in fact, for me...it doesn't matter if the nobel prize winner is a punjabi or bengali or a tamilian or a manipuri... he is indian...tas wat matters...!!

DMK govt/ party has both and -; like many other parties in india. Overall, their performance is not bad. More importantly, they are not anti-brahmin now; may be they were in the 60s and 70s as a ploy to come to power.

continued:

Today, apart from a few exceptions, Iyers have virtually disappeared from the political arena.

In 2006, the Tamil Nadu government took the decision to appoint non-Brahmin priests in Hindu temples in order to curb Brahmin ecclesiastical domination.

This created a huge controversy. Violence broke out in March 2008 when a non-Brahmin oduvar or reciter of Tamil idylls, empowered by the Government of Tamil Nadu, tried to make his way into the sanctum sanctorum of the Nataraja temple at Chidambaram.

Also: with the destruction of Brahmin monopoly over the services and introduction of adequate representation for other communities, anti-Brahmin feelings did not subside. On the contrary, they were fully exploited by politicians, who often indulged in anti-Brahmin rhetoric primarily in order to get non-Brahmin votes. With the passage of time, they reached such a pitch that even individuals who had previously been a part of the Dravidian Movement began to cry foul. Deprived of opportunities, Tamil Brahmins began to migrate en masse to other states in India and foreign countries in search of livelihood

quoted from WIKIPEDIA:

"Since ancient times, Tamil Brahmins, as members of the privileged priestly class, exercised a near-complete domination over educational, religious and literary institutions in the Tamil country. Their domination continued throughout the British Raj as they used their knowledge of the English language and education to dominate the political, administrative, judicial and intellectual spectrum. Upon India's independence in 1947, they tried to consolidate their hold on the administrative and judicial machinery . Such a situation led to resentment from the other castes in Tamil Nadu, an upshot of this atmosphere was an "non-Brahmin" movement and the formation of the Justice Party. Periyar, who took over as Justice Party President in the 1940s, changed its name to Dravida Kazhagam, and formulated the view that Tamil Brahmins were Aryans as opposed to a majority of Tamils who were Dravidian based on Robert Caldwell's writings. The ensuing anti-Brahmin propaganda and the rising unpopularity of the Rajaji Government left an indelible mark on the Tamil Brahmin community ending their political aspirations forever. In the 1960s the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (roughly translated as "Organisation for Progress of Dravidians") and its subgroups gained political ground on this platform forming state ministries, thereby wrenching control from the Indian National Congress, in which Iyers at that time were holding important party positions.
