Dr. Venky is good human being. I have found after reading this article. His nobel prize and his scientific contribution is fully dedicated to our humanity. Whether he is tamil,indian, american we need people like Dr. venky. I salute Dr.Venky for his simplicity and his academic dedication.

I see people here are fighting over where this gr8 man is from. Some are saying he is a Gujrati some say a Tamil and so on. but we also should see that hes an American now. So calling him an India is also incorrect. Everybody has the right to be proud of what they are. If Tamils say hes intelligent coz hes tamil, why not give them the credit. If our family member achieves something of this magnitude dont we say hes done it coz hes our family. We dont say hes done it coz hes an indian or a gujrati or a tamil or something else. So this guy belongs to his Family, tamils, gujratis, to Indians and to the World.
Anyways Big Salute to this great man. I hope our younger generations will have something to learn from him and will be as successful as he is today.
Every week, go and see the bride-groom section in the 'The hindu' newspaper, you will come to know how many non-brahmin tamils(especially mudaliar community) are well settled in united states and other countries. Tamils are generally inteligent and there is no discrimination against brahmins where as all marriage functions and puja's are conducted by brahmin priest. There is 5% atheist (dravidar kazhagham party)population in tamil nadu who do not believe in hindu tamil culture. without knowing the history please do not divide tamils.

Well said. I am Tambram and I can very well vouch for it. Annadurai Mayilsamy, AR Rahman (Mudaliar convert to isklam) are recent example Tamils are overall very much academic oriented. DK, the self immolating guys etc. are like posion in milk.
Most of the people fail to appreciate the reality. I see many people greeting him or praising him. This is what generally or always happens. Think for yourself. If some cricketer hits a century or two, immediately the central and state government and some politician like Lalloo announces a cash award. If somebody gets a bronze or misses it by a whisk in some sports event, immediately he / she is given a cash award, job and all that. But what about people who get Nobel prizes and other prizes like Booker, etc? Nobody even remembers the name after a couple of days. Our government is happy to adorn most of the sports persons and politicians with padma awards and even bharat ratna but how many literateurs are adorned with such awards similarly? We claim he is Indian origin but has no car as of now, but why not India gift him a Benz immediately? We only want waste talk and don't care to encourage knowledge and real hardwork. I understand such writing hurts all hypocrats but this is the fact in this country where education is owned by rich and sold to rich.
The Nobel Prize winner Venkatraman Ramkrishna is Gujarati, being born and brought up in Baroda and joins the league intellect Gujratis such as Vikran Sarabhai and Dr Bhabha in Physics.
