NRIs
by Shovon Chakraborty on Jul 14, 2009 12:49 AM

I would not like to comment on the racial issue here. But would like to point out a very different issue. The so called, successful NRIs have all been educated under a subsidized system in India which gave them the definitive edge and at the same time drained the tax payers' (like us) money. So, at the end, these guys should at least pay back their EMIs to the Indian populace. Simple. If they don't, Indian government should make sure that their worldly possessions within the country are requisitioned.

Two Sides
by Haramohan Roy on Jul 14, 2009 12:24 AM  | Hide replies

Let us look at both sides. It is eminently possible that some young men of India have behaved in an unwanted way in Australia. India - especially north India - is an astoundingly male-dominated society where boys are brought up with the belief that they can do anything and everything. Hence, it may not be unnatural to suggest that at least some Indian students behaved in an unwanted way in Australia.

However, it may be also true that a section of the Australian youths chose to attack and scare away the Indian students, because they were afraid of the Indian competition! After all, judging the nature of the Australian cricketers and cricket coaches, such unseemly behaviour of a section of Australians may not be unnatural!

HR:

Yes and no......

First up if you are looking at both sides, then also look at who the attackers are..... They too come from varied backgrounds viz Lebanon, Greece, Iran, Poland, Russia etc....

The way you heard one Aussie called Rambal speaking on the issue, there are other Aussies at work late night wreaking havoc as well.....

Secondly, considering that the Aussie universities are roaming world-over to attract students, is enough indication that there are no "competing students" back home who are being denied admissions a la Indian IIT ishtyle (cry cry that 35% student took my seat away.... cry cry)....

Thirdly, no student would risk his/her career by indulging in this type of attacks..... d'ya know how many arrests have happened on these issues?....

Anyway.... enough ranting....closing the chapter now....

Australia-Talk of our own country-which we spoil
by icshyderabad on Jul 13, 2009 10:47 PM  | Hide replies

See guys, you like it or not, i dont know from where we got this bad habit. We use loudspeakers for every damn thing as if everybody around is deaf, and making them deaf actually. We have no respect for women, children and the aged. Compare how we behave in public transport compared to the aussies. I know for sure that my companion who is about 75 was given seat in train with all the respect by the aussie guy who was around 10 yrs younger to him. And i will be doing injustice if i dont quote the way thank you and im sorry are used so often and so sweetly by them (including our guys settled there). Now a few places to mention about our own community-Liverpool(Kannadigas)-Stratfor(Telugus)-Westmead(known as mini India today). What are you trying to blame and whom. First of all learn to live and let live here with all civility and then talk of others. Now somebody talks abt NRIs. They have been a great help to this country, and dont blame them ignorantly(this is for those idiots only who blame NRIs)

Truth: Punjabi and Haryanvi rich brats started the trouble
by Muruganswamy on Jul 13, 2009 09:36 PM  | Hide replies

Recently I was in Australia and learnt the actual reason behind so called racial attacks on Indians.
The fact is that these all attacks have been non-racial and have been result of instigation and bad companies by some bachelor degree donation admitted students from India mainly from Punjabi and Haryanvi families. For most of the incidents only these two communities were involved. These Punjabi and Haryanvi victims were actually brats who got admission in Australia having rich affluent background at India, through money and usually they are involved in all wrong things like girls, search for sexual parties, boozing and wrongful earning of money.
They use abusive language which Australians too have learnt from their Hindi friends and especially after Harbhajan episode they have learnt many.
In all these attacks only graduate students were involved. No working Indian was ever attacked and no higher degree persuing Indian student was ever attacked.
Back in India, these news channels, since have connections to the victims families, aired false news of racial attacks, while the fact is that all these attacks have been over th brats. They used India name to defame Australia dn put it in racial map bringing it humiliation nondeservingly.

Now the thing which Indians are facing there is alienation in Australia due to this wrong reporting and Indians facing difficulties in Permanent residentship for Australia!

We indians are known abroad and in India for our bad manners, foul mouths and bad language. Many of them do not know how to conduct themselves. They shout in the malls, show the other man by a pointing finger, which are considered bad manners. The way they eat food in hotels and parties, watching becomes unbearable. It is mainly due to bad bringing up by their parents. The influence of Movies, and (bad mannered) political leaders shown in media as example, brought the students to this state. The ill gotten money never taught them good manners. But taught arrogancy. The result is seen what they are getting now.It does not cost you to learn good manners and be polite

This is centuries of Zl**ry speaking! U ppl r still mentally zla**e of developed nations! Wat is def of manners, watever US and AUS ppl do, isnt it? For ppl you, using words like F.U. amd M.F, even with parents is considered as manners, progressive nature and sophistication. beacuase US and AUS do so! According to you def of manners is limited to using fork and knife, using tissue and wearing tie! AS long as you do these things it does not matter how as a individual, as a family or society u behave.

It is in your head man not in mine. I am speaking what I saw there. It was out and out such case. The MC, BC, BKL culture moves in their language...which Australians have understood very well...and whenever they use such foul language in public they are beaten black and blue.
This is why the most uncivilized people you see in the Delhi haryana Punjab where these guys even don't care of others before using the foul language and dirty talks in public places. Tell me any single place out there excpet these where people speak in such language.
Among those who were beaten was one guy who is son of BJP MLA from north Delhi, Jolly, and some beaten brats who returned back to India and gave interview to IBN7 were from Gurgaon and Manesar and one can easily guess what they were upto by the way they were talking in the interview.
People back in Australia when tell the truth, you guys call it regionalism and NRI and pseudoIndians...bloody you guys back at home God knows ..have set up unlimited examples of racism beating your own countrymen in Maharastra, or burning punjab in communal riots over ravidasi community tragedy or Derawal....dont preach here useless.

Don't lie dude. Australia and US are way more tolerant than any country. There is problem with germnany but it is not only against all Indians but for all other races who are not scandavanian.
Please dont fool here people by talking about racism and the USA...its the best and most tolerant country of the world..even a single case of racism is taken seriously..and here in India...thousands of north Indians are thrashed in their own country in Maharastra their property is looted ...and government does nothing!
A north east guy is called chineese and tamilians are laughed like sambhar vada....
all these guys are same guys who saw Salam Namaste or any yash chopra movie and asked dad to churn out money..which they spend ofn prostitutes, girls, pubs, beach parties and all possible worst ways and come in the companies..and when they are beaten..their dads high connection in Indian media works, which tells the world that Aussies are racist.

Mr MS, You have a valid point. I had been to Australia couple of times, in addition to other countries, but more time spent in Australia comparatively.I had been participating in these forums, and was always telling that indians do speak loud in your own language disturbing others, in ferries, trains etc (like circular quey to so many places), and as a tourist even i was annoyed, and was feeling pity on our guys who were repeatedly requested by american and european tourists to keep quiet and allow them to enjoy their trip, but to no avail with our guys. Civic sense is one thing totally missing. I would not name the regionalities, but agree to a great extent, as the group consisted people from our financial capital also. Be nice and you will be respected in Australia, and it is for sure

The problem of internal racism is different and it also exist everywhere in world. Just like u described the german case. There are differences between southern US and northern US population but that is not our concern. They stand together when there is any outside aggression or on foreign policies.
Our internal dynamics is our business and no outsider can use it as an excuse. we all as Indian should stand up against any outside agression. But unfortunately, india have many narrow minded ppl like you who can not think in terms of Indians.
In ur sick quest proving ppl from other states wrong, u are wrongly justifying US and AUS prejudice.

US and Aus are tolerant. Because these are affluent countries and so far not faced with insecurities comes thru economic crunch.
But with current economic recession, things are changing. The nations which have aggressively advocated globalization, is today perusing protectionism. US who earlier has used all its might to make coutries like India open its economy for US instries is today cutting down visas and making policies like 'say no to Bangalore and yes to Buffalo city'. The reason behind this 360 degree turn is economy. So the point is tolarance of US nad AUS came from thr wealth and when their economy is challenged and others like India started rising, these countries are showing their true characters.

No Sir, I would not go the extra long way saying that you might not be correct. I hope you have visited these countries and stayed there for some time, travelling around and meeting people, malls, public places etc., In every mall in these countries you have a chinese shop called 2$ shop, where you get good goods also at a very low price. But they do exist. Indian restaurants are always a favourite in areas including king's cross. I have been feeling bad abt the way we behave since childhood, no concern for others, too selfish, cheating etc. I AM DELIBERATELY USING CAPS TO MAKE A POINT. ARE YOU AWARE THAT THE 'LOKI'IS INJECTED WITH STEROIDS IN INDIA TO GAIN MORE WEIGHT AND MORE MONEY THEREFORE (DEMAND ROSE BECAUSE OF RAMDEVJI), and these guys openly admit that "we are getting more money and who bothers abt anything else", not my words-telecasted, and this is not only LOKI, even Karela, Brinjal etc., and you know abt mild adultration with chemicals? Now what?

@ Icehydrabad!
I have been to AUS and US!
U can give Chery pick incidences to support your theories! I can give 100s of seen examples where captalistic nature of AUS and US is at its worst behaviour! In these counties you are human as long as you have money! and condition become worst if u have money and local ppl don! but that is not the point.
The right way to understands behavior or patterns is to observe response to various changes in environment. That is how u study substance, individual or societies. Thr are many examples in recent history where tolerant, mild and well behaved societies gone very bad in no time with sudden changes in economic scenario! and my observation of US and AUS is no diff. If these countries are faced with skewed recourse to population ratio like india, these ppl will behave worst than us!
Today when i come back in US i see the neighborhood which was once most peaceful and safe is turned into a crime ally (without any significant migrating population! only because of changing economic scenario). So ur thinking of we are bad ppl and US and AUS are good ppl is way way of the mark!

I have never been to Australia, but have been saying in US for a year now.......

1) Yes, US citizens by far the most tolerant creatures on earth.
2) Some guy pointed out that you will be respected only when you have money, which is utter rubbish....ppl talk to each other like customer to shopkeeper or even a watchman with such respect ...that i couldnt believe my eyes.....have any of us spoken to our watchman, bus driver..or even gatekeeper with even neutral demeanr,..we just treat them from some low-standard society........
3) and some thoughts that their attitude is changing due to recession.....but believe me had india been an affluent country and then India had to face recession, we would have behaved in worst possible manner due to our lack of civic sense, presence of corrupt political parties and all these regionalism issues.

Indians getting bashed up in OZ
by TheWicked wizard on Jul 13, 2009 08:33 PM  | Hide replies

As an Indian who has travelled a lot, I have seen that we Indians tend to cling to our style of working, stydying and partying, when we go abroad. Indians who have lived abroad are more closed minded to accepting local styles and living among the home public than Indians at home. Hence, most of the time, Indian communities stick like sore thumbs overseas.. Just speaking with slang does not mean accepting local culture, it means understanding the nuances and sensitivites of the local populace, which we seem to lack.. Hence Indians abroad deserve to be bashed regularly to knock sense into their thick heads..
