by abboral boral on Jul 11, 2008 08:11 PM  | Hide replies

Do you understand the change India has after 17 years of economic liberisation in 1991? Are you feeling so comfort writing your mind so easily by using internet ?have you ever travelled low cost airlines less than train tickets ?Do you know 70% of Indian student have easy excess to study in USA for higher studies which was a dream in 1991.Have you seen world class roads already made in different states and soon golden quadrilaterals will be opened? the revolutions in telecommunications particularly in mobile ?.Do you know that our Indian companies are buying foreign companies aggressively?Do you know one of our Indian company listed in New yourk stock exchange for the first time in history ?Do you not feel the revolutions in IT industries?Do you know our foreign exchange reserves are 400billion doller at present which was actually only 1 billion doller in 1991?Do you know RTI( right to information) bill has passed and even a hapless farmers are getting treated properly due to RTI?All this has happened due to 1991 economic liberiation. Now think if India signed this nuclear deal in 2008 which I consider 2nd economic liberisation and which has been backed by none other than world 's most richest country G-8 ,I think very soon our fastest train in 500 km speed will come up within 5 years from now .So do you want to go with the economy of pakistan ,bangladesh, srilanka,or with G-8 countries for further development of our country .The funny thing is that BJP plus left=0

Nuclear Deal
by anand mehta on Jul 11, 2008 06:39 AM

GRJ rightly asks the boarders to first know what the deal is about. Unfortunately we tend to comment based on whom we like and whom we do not. All Left parties should have gone the way of Russia. But our masses think that by taking away from rich and middle class, the poor would become better. Another aspet is the agitational approach. All of these are stage managed. None of the participants even know what they are agitating against.
Rediff has reproduced point by point answer of the government to the objections of Left. Dr Kalam, Shri Mishra our security adviser under NDA, K Subhramaniam, Naraynan the current seurity adviser, Shri Kakodkar the head of our Atomic Agency etc have all studied the deal from various point of view and support it. No deal can be onesided. We have to give some to gain some. Our politicians only think of how to come bak to power. National interest is seondary. It is the duty of intellectuals to take independent view of such important events and comment on the basis of knowledge and not on whether they like X or Y

Stop Mudslinging at Bush, MMS,SG,KARAT.....ND OTHERS.

wHY NOT indians try and understand individually WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT ?

uNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN OUR ILLITERATE MASSES VOTE BLINDLY WITH APPEASEMENT AND VOTE ALLUREMENTS FROM THE ILLITERATE POLITICIANS.

nOW IT IS TOME FOR INTELLECTUALS TO RUN THE SHOW ....OR ENLIGHTEN THOSE WHO ARE IGNORANT OR HALF KNOWLEDGED.

ALL THE BEST NDIANS.... NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THOSE WHO ARE WAITING TO BRING IN BLACKMAILER RELIGION BASED economies from the desert lands.

They say very surely we will not allow N DEal to be settled. They even go to the extent to say that we have oil and we dont need N power....That is the selfishness and cunningness to take over the humanistic civilizations such as Asia and Europe.

They forget that rest ofthe world shares its bounties as friends but these selfish people sell oil with a poisonous attitude of enslaving the users and destroy their economies....to build up their economies and thrust the religion on them and make the rest of the world crawl for survival in the Desert Lands.

Be Ware of 'The wise killers.'

every third fourth person is making his own xyz jhandoo balm party and after election, they are involved in jugadbaaji to form a government.
from 1989, only 4 election should have been held but due to this dirty jugadbaaji politics, there were 6 elections and every elections costs on taxpayers money. Why these idiot politiciens do not form only two parties?

projecting half truths
by Kumar Munipalli on Jul 09, 2008 10:31 AM

Many scientists are giving a half truth version of the deal. With the deal, we can buy uranium (not only from US, but also from France, UK, Russia, Australia etc.), but need to meet requirements like not reprocessing or using for non-civilian purposes. There is no restruiction on what we do with our existing stock of uranium or what we mine internally. India does not have enough uranium to run a decent nuclear civilian program. Even when you buy a TV, you are told that no warantee is applicable if you open the TV set yourself instead of seeking qualified and approved service support. So what are we complaining about? Without the deal, there is no uranium and hence no need to reprocess etc. Scientists of the 60s-70s era are caught in the time-trap of Nehruvian concepts of the period. We have to simply apply the commonsense rule of analysing what does it bring to us and what do we lose. In this case we can still do whatever we want to with our own Uranium resources while we need to follow the requirements of the deal if we want to get additional uranium to run a good nuclear energy program.

Where is the Write up by Sheela Bhatt?
by Anand YNI on Jul 09, 2008 09:47 AM

Is it a mere reproduction of what transpired between the PMO and Amar Singh and the expert comments by Dr Prasad or is there any contribution by Sheela Bhatt in this article?
