I agree. I always liked bjp policies compared to congress. But its a shame that l.k.advani is playing games and want to become a PM so desperately that he is risking india's future energy needs.

Advani is not like vajpayee who was a master politician. This guy doesnt deserve to be a PM. How can he vote against the deal that vajpayee pushed for in the first place. Make Arun jatley PM candidate please.

The economy started shrinking last month and will continue to contract until Spring 2009, according to one of the world's major investment banks.

* Remortgaging falls as confidence hits low

* Consumers turn to credit cards in crisis

* Separating couples still live together

* Housing slump spreads to mansions

so what? US economy has been in recession 5 times since 1960 .... it is part of being a stable economy that they go into recession and then they come out of it.

USA has a per capita annual GDP of $44,000

The need of nuclear fuel
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Jul 09, 2008 12:15 AM  | Hide replies

I understand what the writer is saying. But I have a simple question if anyone can answer. Name another country other than USA is willing to supply nuclear fuel now or in future. Just name one country. In your quest to answer to this question, you will find that most nuclear suppliers will not give fuel to India unless India signs the NPT or CTBT. Only USA is willing to get around this requirement and waving this. In any deal, you give something in return of gaining something. What is communists are asking is a deal without giving anything, then it is not a deal. That is absurd and impractical.

The bottom line is we need the nuclear energy in future and no country except the USA is willing to help us at this moment. Period.

Stupid aguments By first.Muslims are killing muslims by fidayeen attacks. Not US.
First stop radicalisation and fundamentalist mediveal ideology of ISLMIST AND THINK RATIONALLY LIKE A HUMAN.
You cannt rationalise all the islamic terrorism on palestine aND iraq WAR.
IT s dangerous rationalisation of most heinous acts.
Terrorism existed before US went into IRAQ.
Sunnis were shooting Shias and viceversa before west entered into war in Iraq.
Its fundamental problem with radical interpretation of ISLAM AND NOT US POLITICS OR IRAQ INVASION.

this kind of isolation is not good for us as we need to grow....it may take us 20 years to develop the tech we will get in 2 years from US...sometime we need to depend on others...no shame in that

what is involved in this deal is NOT nuclear technology.
What is involved is the supply of enriched uranium of high quality and spare parts for nuclear reactors in case we require them . But the fact is we require them.
We do not have uranium here in India and we have plenty of thorium (in kerala).
We have not yet developed the technology to use thorium and derive energy from it .
Though research is going to develop thorium based reactors in India ,it may take another two decades.
Meanwhile any outsourcing from any other country like for example Australia is totally unreliable , for example recently Australian govt.
declared that they will not supply uranium any more.
What will you do ?
It is always better to go with this deal if you want India to develop very fast on the economy front.
With a country like India even USA or any other country can hardly control in any aspect when comes to practical realties.
When a country like USA supplies , it offcourse asks for auditing, as to how we have spent it?
But how can they really control?
Do you think that USA is such a fool to believe that India does not have nuclear weapons , nearly a hundred of them hidden in the Himalayan caves?
So take uranium and spare parts for our reacotors which are already in operation.
Many reactors are not running to full capacity.
And spare parts sourcing has become an extreme problem because USA has banned sales of such parts.

N-Deal Smeared in Murky Politics
by VSM on Jul 08, 2008 05:35 PM

Please think it- At present we are unable to run our existing civil nuclear power plants for want of uranium. Sanctions came in the way all these years. Let us take the advantage of the deal to supply uranium to our needs and technology that is required. If some people say it a sell out for India by signing the nuclear deal, It can also be sell out even without the deal. We should have confidence in us to be a country of Self respect. It can not just be possible to have self respect either by signing or not signing the pact. Hats off to the former president Abdul Kalam for his great wisdom. The other scientists should emulate him, instead of taking sides of politicians and not able to think what is good for the country.

Sheelaji, they want to trap Bharatvarsh somehow.
by chanakya maurya on Jul 08, 2008 04:43 PM

They must clarify certain major issues.

They have long been twisting the arms of Bharatvarsh into signing on the dotted line on the NPT.

The N-deal 123 would ultimately lead to a successful end to the western version of the arm twisting.

Three years ahead of now and Bharatvarsh will have no other alternative but to sign on the NPT.

And also perhaps forgo the independence of testing.

The whole thing has very wide and very deep political ramifications affecting the Indian foreign policy as a whole.

As a matter of fact the whole issue itself is very murky.

Because the Neanderthaal occupying the Oval is not only dishonest but also devilish in his designs.

Dr Prasad's comments
by Srinivasan Iyer on Jul 08, 2008 04:23 PM  | Hide replies

Despite what he says, we are presently unable to run our nuclear power plants at full capacity due to short supply of uranium? Is this correct or are they working at lower capacities because of the inefficiency of scientists like Dr Prasad! Can he tell us what developments have been made by our scientists in the nuclear field which are indigenous and with only locally made/designed equipment or are we dependent on some critical items which have to be imported. Does the deal overcome these constraints? Yes or No. Dr A.Kakodkar the present Chairman of our Atomic Energy Commission is a prominent scientist and has been part of the teal that negotiated the deal as well as some other nuclear power experts have also been consulted. Is Dr Prasad peeved becasue he wasnt included in the consultative team? Is his ego-hurt? APJ Kalam has endorsed the agreement as being in the national iterest. And so have some other scientists. Can someone enlighten me on Dr Prasad's position.

Kalam has not endorsed it. He has been mis quoted. All he said was we dont have sufficient uranium but use thorium and develop tha technology. Being a past President he can not talk about it and clarify it.

Don't break our head, let our political jokers do that part and watch the "Indian Great Tamasha" created by left, fuelled by congress and desperate BJP. Who can provide better entertainment than these people?
