Vajpayee, Musharraf, Madhuri Dixit and Margaret Thatcher are traveling in a train. The train suddenly goes through a tunnel and it gets completely dark. Suddenly there is a kissing sound and then a slap! The train comes out of the tunnel. Thatcher and Vajpayee are sitting there looking perplexed. Musharraf is bent over holding his face, which is red from an apparent slap. All of them remain diplomatic and nobody says anything.
Thatcher is thinking: "These Pakistanis are all crazy after Madhuri. Musharraf must have tried to kiss her in the tunnel. Very proper that she slapped him"
Madhuri is thinking: "Musharraf must have moved to kiss me, and kissed Margaret instead and got slapped."
Musharraf is thinking: "Damn! it, Vajpayee must have tried to kiss Madhuri, she thought it was me and slapped! me."
Vajpayee is thinking: "If this train goes through another tunnel, I could make another kissing sound and slap Musharraf again."

I have great regard for Dr Prasad. But does he expect that we write down what we think will give us ALL the benefits and all memebrs of NSG would sign it? Secondly are we fully geared to move our nuclear energy programme to keep pace with the nation's needs. Can we do this without any help from NSG memebrs? Any bilateral agreement has to have give and take. This would have to be a multilateral agreement. We do not even know if all would suport it. In such a situation wasn't it foolhardy of the left parties to not even allow (!) tne governemnt to sort out an agreement with IAEA. By trying to find out shortcomings or difficulties he, a nuclear scientist, is either telling the countrymen that we do not need nuclear energy or is fully satisfied with our PACE ofsetting up the plants and operationalise them. We no doubt have the capabilities but time and again we have MISMANAGED and delayed in giving the technical capabilities in time and at a reasonable development cost. Be it defence, telecom, nuclear science or medicine. In a global environment one has to move fast in every area in cooperation with others. Nobody will help us without getting benefits for himself. Today our economy is moving fast only because we have allowed our entreprenures to link with one and all as long as it is not a scurity hazard to us. A B Mehta
it was really bad on part of some politicians who instead of favouring the nation, played dirty politics of votes...... the deal should have been favoured by all unanimously............
THIS DEAL IS NOT SAFE FOR INDIA..THAT MUCH IS QUITE CLEAR FROM DR. PRASAD'S REMARKS. SO THE COUNTRY CAN WAIT FOR ANOTHER YEAR OR SO TILL A DEAL THAT SAFEGUARDS THE INTERESTS OF OUR COUNTRY IS SIGNED. IF THE THE CONGIS HAVE NOT DONE SOME WORK FOR ENERGY SECURITY THE PAST 50 YEARS, HEAVENS WOULD NOT FALL IF A MORE CAREFULLY THOUGHT OUT DEAL IS SIGNED BY A NEW GOVT.

Why Mr.Prasad? There is Dr.Kalam who is a senior most and man who laid the foundation stone for the Bomb project.
A.N.Prasad wants everybody to believe that he is sole repository of all knowledge about the deal. All the other scientists and diplomats involevd do not know or understand anything! Very strange!

Do you know? Are you aware of the capability of production of neuclear fissil material in the BARC facility? DO you know the amount of independence that India will have in terms of conducting security related Neuclear tests on Indian soil? I guess you dont know. So the point is, if you dont know then Dr. Prasad knows. Simple. If you dont know, i know logic. Secondly Dr Prasad is someone who is well versed with the subject and he has passed on his opinion on it. It may be that his opinion is not the right opinion but I believe you should be more circumspect if a person in that authority has made such a statement regarding the Civilian Neuclear Deal.

You are absolutely right. Infact, Dr. Prasad probably knows more on this subject than Manmohan Singh. In any case, MMS may not be there to prevent the consequences for India. That will be th burden of future Govt.
Presently India is facing nearly 12% Inflation, considerable slow down in the economy and other serious economic issues. All this when the World renowned economist is the PM!!!!!!

MMS is NOT a 'world renowned' economist. He was merely employed as one of a large number of economists and advisers at IMF/WB - which are positions that come exclusively from high level political contacts because the money is great but the work is minimal. And there is no oversight.
WHAT do you think has MMS done to become 'renowned'? The decision to open up India's economy in 1991 was taken jointly by Narsimha Rao, MMS and a couple of others.

Besides, if the Govt is so certain about the implications of this agreement, why are they not showing the Draft Agreement of the IAEA? Does this not indicate that the Congress has something to hide???

There are many scientists who hold this view. Considering that it is such an unclear deal, there was no need for MMS to be in such a hurry considering the implications it has to India's strategic options.
Dr. A.N.Prasad's observations are thought provoking. If everything about the nuclear deal was hunky dory why such fears from knowledgable people of such eminence.More over, can someone educate me as to by what time this nuclear deal would ensure "A NO POWER CUT" existence. Can augmenting power generation only, without a matching sustainable distribution network really pull us out from the dark ages?

You got a point there Udayan. The Govt is currently only talking about 100% power, but to generate such power it takes some raw material - read fissle material. So where are we going to get that from? Now that is where the US can potentially play politics. Although I am not aware of the nature of the deal, it could very well be that you build 10 reactors at the cost of $200 million per reactor and then not have enough fuel to feed the reactors, which means that India will be in Debt for ages to come for all the funds that it has drawn from Big-Brother US for building such facilities
