Heart breaking ....
by JGoa on May 16, 2007 10:18 AM

Firstly my sincere condolences to the parents.. loosing a child and then have difficulties to giving the child a decent burial..adds to the emotional pain that the parents are going through. The authorities should check on this.. cause the soul should never be hurt..the child may have left this earth.. but they still deserve a decent burial.. shame on the authorities who don't care for the deaths of humans.

But we can always try to change the situ.
I have always dreamed that the literacy % is growing and India will soon become a clean nation with people who has rational thinking...
Praying to God will not work, We need to educate and convince ourselves that we will not only do anything harmful to the society but also try to do something more than our ususal day to day duties, then we impart the knowledge to our family, near and dear ones, then to the nearest scoiety and teh people in your environment

There was a political party started by IITians and there was no good response. read the below link
http://www.iitfoundation.org/?p=74

During our last election voting day we would have either
1) planned an outing with our family,
2) used the whole day to beat the heat and slept in our house.

We are rest assured that we are not going to believe or vote any of the other political parties in the fray , then y dont we give a try for these kind of new idea.

These pepole have started this venture leaving a wonderful future which lay ahead of them, we dont have guts to do that in life , atleast we can vote them to power.
If they come up in the metros and big cities,.
then they can enter into towns, and even villages. It will take its own time, But this wil change the idea of other parties also. In any case we wil be in a win win situation.
This may look a mere dream but can be made into a possibility.
What do you guys have to say for this??

Yes, I completelty agree with you here pal. I had read about these IITians forming a political party which was something I only dreamt of for changing the sick things in our country. I would vote to no other then them in the coming elections, if they still there. And am sure many educated ppl like us who wants the betterment of the country and know that the current political system is in a complete mess, would agree here.
So friends reading this blog, though am not a part of this political party but still would request you all to vote for good ethical and educated ppl to power. Thats the only solution, else just sit around doing nothing and keep writing hate blogs.

Respect for the dead
by Ganesh Parameswaran on May 16, 2007 09:57 AM

When the society does not know or care to respect or care for the living, is it any wonder that the ghats are left like this? After all they are dead and why should the society bother them? Yet it is possible to change it all, only if we took it upon ourselves to cleanse the act, not expecting the netas and babus or even the court to help us. The young parents in this story have a challenge, a chance. I wish them success in what would turn out to be a noble endeavour.

This is why many people leave India for greener pastures abroad....If a decent burial cannot be provided in this country then what is the point saying we should be proud to be Indians??

sentments and tradition
by brahman on May 16, 2007 09:40 AM  | Hide replies

I am spellbound after reading the above story.. this is the pathetic conditions of the holy Yamuna Ghat and even the Varanasi (Kasi) Ghat. Neither the government of NGOs or even the locals have any kind of administration to preserve the sanctity and cleanliness of these holi places where lakhs of devotees visit for darshan, taking bath, doing their offering for the departed souls, and for burial/cremation. I have even witnessed half cremated (parts) of dead bodies floating in the holi river ganges and sideby the ardent devotees take bath and repeated dips in the water. Devotee's ardent (blind faith and belief) faith of taking a dip in the Yamuna/Ganga river and even carrying the water in whatever type of utensil (plastic bottles, earthern pots, aluminium, steel, tumblers etc) home, to be placed in front of the photos/idols of Gods for the use of sprinkling and last drops to a dying human being. Devotees also drink Ganga water (at Varanasi/Kasi) with the belief that it will keep away all the illness and deseases and makes the devotee free of any time of physical illness for the future...a belief that is hard to believe.

Whatever, bitter experiences you pen down here, it would hardly make any difference to the devotees who are less-educated about the difference between tradition/custom/belief versus cleanliness and sanctity. If I were there with the parents of the poor child, I would have convinced him to take the body back to some other place for cremation and/or burial so as to have a satisfaction of giving him a clean and neat final resting place rather than going by the sentiments/faith and belief and take the trauma/agony thoughout.

OMG, are ppl really blind and inhuman to take a dip amidst floating dead body parts around them. And drink that water too. It is shocking.

I agree with U on the lil child. The parents shouldn't have left their dead kid amongst grave robbers and scavengers.

i had drops of tears after reading this article.
The environment and health department minister for that area and their whole family, dependants, survivors should be punished by making them live in that place for a month.
Only if SC gives proper strict punishments, we wil tend to change.

My deepest condolences to the couple.
