This story further serves to ilustrate that India is one huge fetid, stinking cesspool, with useless, good-for-nothing govt. But it's good that people are suffering - they are responsible for the existing hellish state of affairs, as they are the ones who keep on voting carrion for their govt.
We all know that India is bursting at it's seams with land being a scarce commodity. So it is prudent that people who are bereaved in the Big cities start using the electric crematorium which is much much better than stand knee deep in a stinking pool of sewage and snatching the last ounce of dignity from a Dead soul. Though tradition and custom in some faiths ask for a burial it is imperative that people should realize that the times we live in have changed and we need to go with the tide.
It is always better to opt for the Electrical crematorium. What a sad thing to happen to these parents! Very pathetic. Any day, it is safe to burn the body of the dead than burrying it....so that they are not pulled out by stray animals.

Shame on you Verghese, your post reflects your insensitive and stupid attitude. Your ignorance about water pollution and its cuases is pitiable.
Arent the concerned authorities answerable? Doesnt the opposition raise these questions in parliament or just do the normal boycott's? Or, are they waiting for some high-profile minister's son to Die so that the reporters will cover it 24x7 on TV.. Wake up you god-damn politicians.. do something useful for the country..!!

Mr.Varghese, This is not about Hindus or Muslims or Christians! It is about humanity. As for the river Ganga, I believe it should be cleaned. Not because it is holy to the Hindus, but it is the river most of India gets water from. And instead of sitting and blaming others, why don't YOU do something about it? Its your country too, isn't it? And I say this proudly, because I have associated myself with a lot of causes that I think I can support. I am not making just blank statements here. If you have a problem, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Don't make everything a sectarian issue.

Keep up the good work Debashri! We need a generation of positive and strong-willed gentlemen to unite and purify India.
Do your bit for the country guys... wherever you are. We need a revolution similar to the independence movements, to clean up our country.

Mr. Varghese, Your comment on this report shows your mentality, this is not a religious issue, this is a social issue and it is unfortunate that educated people like you have such a vision towards these issues. Rivers dont have religion and it is "educated" people like you who divide and ruin the soceity. PLEASE CHANGE YOURSELF, AFTERALL WE ARE ALL INDIANS.

I agree with the comments that this is a social issue not a political or a religious issue. So lets try to have a contructive dialogue. what do you guys think that should be done to address the problem?? Please provide some good ideas instead of blaming others...

Mr.Vargheese please ask your christian missionaries to stop converting peoples and use your foreign money to clean the rivers in india will you do???
Its very sad & a very big embarassement. Altough my heart goes to Pallavi & Sourav, I still feel they could have taken a decision & buried the baby elsewhere. I know the plight there & the position at that time would have been helpless, but dead also deserve a better treatment. May God be with you both - Pallavi & Sourav. Take care
how do we bring about a change? would rediff be able to provide us some details of the concerning authorities so that we can contact them about the plight of people who are forced to bury their children in this muck?

This entire site is turning into some kind of religion bashing. Sometimes its hindu bashing, sometimes its muslim bashing or christian bashing. I cant understand why could'nt have a healthy discussion without bashing each others religion. Or without using abusive language.
