Govt policies
by on Feb 26, 2007 06:35 PM

it is the govt policies. While it was good that the liquidity increase in the market, thanks to the good policies of the Govt, the effects were over looked. Take example of the real estate. Tax exemptions encouraging the people to buys houses has lead to creation of huge projects which have unreasonably hiked the land/flat prices. The prices have rose so much that even middle class whose earning capaicity increased, fail to meet them. The earnings increased but the purchase parity decreased. Now have we become richer or poorer. I wonder

Life never so Bad
by Hebbar R on Feb 26, 2007 06:30 PM  | Hide replies

A few days ago the FM had responded to an article in Rediff regarding the forthcoming Budget. This indicated that he is looking at all avenues to gather information. I wish he is also seeing this page. May be his heart will see reality as it is. May be he will do something about this.

All Economists and Politicians are getting into euphoria saying that the Indian economy is growing at 9%. But what does this mean to people like Vanaja? If such growth means further poverty and hardship, then why do we need such a growth?

Well said. We all have cushy jobs and a certain increment which keeps us afloat. The govt and traders should leave the commodities alone so that poor people are not affected. I dont think politicians have a heart.

Chidambaram knows only one thing thats to talk in a good anglicised English, other than that he doesnt know anything.I dont know how he keeps harping India grows at 9.2% when prices have sky rocketed. Its shameful that media orgs like Times of India is running a campaign like India Poised at this time when they should have concentrated their energies on how to reduce the burden of common people from meeting their day to day expenses.I am really surprised by one fact, he never has the guts to face people face to face in any chat talk or talk shows, if he does come face to face I think he will be grilled to the core, we need hearings like the senate hearing in the US but in India it will be better if Ministers are subjected to hearings of the people face to face, then the stupidity of our ministers will come out in the open:)):))

PARALLEL GOVT. RUN BU UNDERWORLD
by Baba Kamdev on Feb 26, 2007 06:19 PM  | Hide replies

SOME YEARS BACK THERE WAS A REPORT THAT THERE WAS A PARALLEL GOVERNEMTN RUN BY THE UNDERWORLD IN THE COUNTRY.BUT THIS REPORT WAS BRUSHED ASIDE, AS OUR GOVERENMENT FEELS THAT JUST BY SHUTTING OUR EYES WE CAN WARD -OFF PROBLEMS.

BUT IF OU SEE THAT MOST OF PRODUCTS/SERVICES THAT A COMMON MAN NEEDS IN DAILY LIFE ARE MONOPOLIZED BY HANDSFUL OF MUSLEMAN (PART OF THE UNDERWORLD)..FOR EXAMPLE:TV CABLE, MILK DISTRIBUTION, ESSENTIAL FOOD SUPPLIES,REAL ESTATE, RATES OF AUTO/TAXI , ETC....THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO DETERMINE THE COSTS.

SO ON PAPER , WE MAY FIND AVERAGE SALARY INCREASED. BUT THESE WOLVES CREATE STRATEGIES T SUCK ALL THE MONEY OUT OF OUT..

EVEN MNC BANK..LIKE CITIBANK ( SAID TO BE RUN BY ITALIAN MAFIA BEHIND THE CURTAIN) ARE ALSO PART OF THE NETWORRK TO SQUEEZE THE COMMON MAN.

APPELAING TO GOVERNMENT IS OF NO USE....THEY ARE NOT SURE WHETHER THEY WILL WIN ELECTIONS NEXT TIME...SO TIME FOR THEM TO EARN AS MUCH MONEY THROUGH BRIBES ETC....

WHO CARES FOR INDIA?

Please do us all a favor - avoid using All-Caps. If you want to highlight a word, term, sentence - do it but it avoid using it fully as people cannot read 4 paras of it.

Partly it mite be true buddy even though if people like Dawood can pump money to help Pakistani economy then isnt it possible for Italian mafiosi to pump money into Banks like Citibank. If our NSA says terrorists are starting fictitious companies to pump money from share market or into share market.so doesnt it make sense to what he has said. There are lot of trusts and NGO's that do a lot of brazen activities with a sole intention of disturbing India, I hope we Indians will give a serious thought to things like NSA said and do some soul searching as well as preventive measure...

Who is responsible
by Asthana Neha on Feb 26, 2007 06:08 PM  | Hide replies

We all have our mind sets on this.

But did we ever ask who is truly responsible for this situation??? Why is inflation rate so high?? Major exports. More Imports?? Mall culture. Negligence.

Us not paying taxes?? Who is it who is responsible for such acts???

1.Govt?

2.Vajanta her self?

3.Us????

Think about it. Might be able to help not to create such more stories.

Nothing more even being aware about it. Truly ho many of us including me would have put in 1% of interest to do some thing better for them????

--- I think answers are with us only. Let wake up govt by sending them noted about it. Rather than just feeling petty. Tomorrow it can be you or me?? will we raise our voices only when we go through a pain.

--- Did we ask about rehabilitation of those people who vacated there houses for dam??

-- Did we ask small retailers n Delhi for rehabilitation????

Q are too many efforts are less. Please build in some efforts for it.

--- Neha

Blame ourself
by Santosh Rao on Feb 26, 2007 06:06 PM  | Hide replies

Harsh as this may sound, i think one of the basic things is to have family planning. You would be better able to feed one mouth than 5 mouths... We should stop blaming the govt.. its like blaming the lack electricity on Distribution losses. Lets get a fact straight, we should not expect govt to do anything... thats a hard truth... unless educated class decides to get into politics. We can help ourselves by being more sensitive to people. I stay in an apratment and there is a lot of borough when some maids aask for a raise of even 50 bucks... while they themselves dont mind spending 4 times that amt in a multiplex. As it professionals we always grumble about not good hikes.. .where is an effective mechanism for these people on the same way. Be generous and help in kind, by offering to sponsor her kids education per se... we can make a difference

Mr. Rao,
You are right about some of the issues. But, sponsering a Child, though a welcome step, will not solve the issue. The larger issue needs to be addressed. Which is, that it is the job of the Govt to provide Social Security and that is the reason why we pay so much taxes under different names. Every Budget the Govt thinks of a new name for a new Tax or a new Cess. But the Govt never intends to provide a Social Security - neither to the poor nor for the IT payers.
One other issue you need to understand is that not all are IT Professionals and not all maids work in the residences of IT Professionals. There are so many Middle Class people who are facing a situation similar to that of this poor maid.

The unvarnished truth
by Paramesh Waran on Feb 26, 2007 06:05 PM  | Hide replies

The media driven hype about the shining face of India hides, as if evidence is required, the ugly truth of the grieving faces of the poor and disadvantaged. In a milieu where money is the ultimate arbiter the one who has the wherewithal to spend on needs, wants and even more on absolute unrequired aspirational goods does not have any qualms in proclaiming the good times. Dishonest crooks in politics, business and the professions will do their best to project the 9% story and do their damndest to cover up the real story. It is the Vanaja's a caring government would rush to succour and not the no good Ambanis and Ruias.

by SATISH KUMAR on Feb 26, 2007 06:05 PM

This is only one example and just the tip of iceberg. Its high time people stop bragging about achievements. Sensex going up, new shopping malls, all are of no use to hide this reality. Meaningless developments and wastage of money is the cause of this misery. Only collective realization is the solution for this. Then only we can say we are a developed nation.......
