Compltely failed Govt.
by Divesh rustogi on Feb 26, 2007 10:29 PM

They havn't done anything for middle class and poor class till now.If just take an example of property prices two years ago. People used to get decent house in 100 lakhs but now forget about poor people even a upper middle class can't have a house. They haven't started anything new tillnow except politics. We used to have a add at DD1 "India is shine but aam aadmi ko isse kya mila" in third party time.
This is really horrible situation for poors.Their daily wages earning might have increased just by 10% but their spending got increased by 50%. How a daily earning person can manage in such scenarions?

pseudo progress
by abdul jabbar on Feb 26, 2007 10:15 PM

what is the use of progress when the people are hungry and cannot afford to eat well, dress well and live a dignified life. what we need is technocrats and not leaders who do not know anything about economy and cope up with real issues. this government is doing nothing and all the money is going to few hands that is capitalists. this is boom time for these capitalists only. i think that these malls are creating a big problem for small traders. if this sort of trend continues then more suicide will start. it is just now to vidharba but very soon it may come to metropolitan cities also.

Inflation
by ismail shaik on Feb 26, 2007 09:55 PM  | Hide replies

The root cause of inflation is due to rise of petrol cost in the world. The second cause is due to hoarders and black marketers. The third cause is due to negligence of govt in not catching greedy profiters and cluding of politicians with big traders/manufacturers in fixing the rates of the products.Final cause is due to more demand and less supply.(ismailsk)

by Shibaji Mukherjee on Feb 26, 2007 09:38 PM  | Hide replies

An all inclusive growth is not happening in India and the marginal people will be left out of the growth cycle until they reinvent and reskill themselves. This is the normal form of open market growth and we have to admit this if we go for an open market growth. The other way around is state controlled growth with sort of uniform distribution. This model has been proved to be a failure for rapid growth in most of the cases and India is also not following it. We have to go thorugh a hard time for quite some time before the growth percolates to most of the population. This is natural and theres no point in being sentimental, its the choice the policy makers made and they have bene elected to make this choice and we have to live with it.

Sir, I agree with you. But most writers and journalists and intellectuals in India like to exaggerate and sensationalise. We have to bite the bullet and survive for another 5 years of good growth. Even the servant lady Vanaja will find that her children will have better opportunities in a resurgent India which will have far more jobs for the skilled youngsters.
If we stop at each instance of hard life and long for a controlled economy, we will be back in the 60's.
In the meanwhile, it is the duty of all citizens to fight for a curruption free society. Demand for good adminstration. The problem with India is NOT that we have no rules. We have enough and more of that. But very few follow rules and the law. Let the Shobha Warriers dig out those cases of curruption and apathy of government servants to the public with in depth stories.
Cheers, Don't lose heart!

There is no end to it unless qualified economists are put to task in place of illiterate policy and law-makers.

yes people like vanajas suffer, but i have heard many unskilled workers are well in life now compared to five years back,if those lost their job, there are many different jobs available,(example: i know a person who worked as operate in industry ,after closure of factory ,he is now working as security in bpo company.and earn 5000/-. so if we work hard,we can surely control price rise.see what did spiderman do after completing research .he became a photographer.

Outset, Spider man is a celluloid super hero. You can't compare him with Vanaja's husband. I would have been happy if u would have told Lincoln or Ford. I agree with u in the part that people should work hard and find ways out. THEY ARE STILL IN THEIR COMFORT ZONE. It would be better if u put the name of the person, who's a security and how he got the job?

sivaraj quoted a wrong example but he has a point. In the case quoted above by rediff the male of the society has been doing nothing substantial.

I have my contractor friends and i know how shortage of man labour is there today seeing the infrastructure boom. even unskilled labourer can feth upto 3000 a month. A mason upto 6000 and high end skilled laboures like JCB drivers have no limit.

If inflation has gone up, so has increased urs and mine packages and so has labour cost.

One has to modify and skill himself and HUNT for the opportunities or he will end up lamenting and ultimately perish!!!!

Yes, even in TN, there are many jobs vacant in places like Tirupur, where there are 'Jobs available' boards all the time! But people simply do not want to be re-skilled, as they feel it is risky.

There are plenty of Jobs vacant in Semi Skilled and Unskilled categories - Office Peons,Office Boys,Delivery Boys, Xerox Operators, Sales Reps,Housekeeping etc.

Many small business owners have a ego problem and think it is below their dignity to work for somebody once they have done business so face poverty even when their business is running bad.
They should think of their family instead of their prestige.

Who is the root cause? Govt or ourselves?
by Chandrasekar Sundararaman on Feb 26, 2007 08:22 PM  | Hide replies

Friends, can we look at the root cause of this issue... Vanaja works in 3 different houses as maid and earns 500 in each house. Probably some four years before, she would have earned in each house about 300 to 350 in the same house where she is working...now lets look at the person who has employed her...he would have earned say Rs. 20,000 a month that time and now probably he will be earning 40,000 a month... Are we getting something out of this? Who is the root cause? The government or us?

yOU'VE hit the nail on its Head! All of us need to be more responsible citizens in helping poorer sections of society whose help we certainly need to maintain our DINK - Double Income No Kids status -- ie even when we have kids someone else is taking time to care for them. Only then wil govt. and corporates become more responsible.
