India Shining
by Harpreet on Feb 02, 2004 09:26 PM

For those calling India shining as not widespread enough.
So what is wrong in a part of India finally shining ? It may be 10 % or it may be 15 %, but compared to the 100 % darkness of the past it is a step forward, and we will NEVEr be able to go from 0 to 100, it would be done 1 step at a time, and finally we are taking a step only for the nay sayer to try and hold us back, they would prefer 100 % darkeness to even 50 % shining, even if it were 50 % they would look at the wrong ( or dark ) 50 % and still cry unfair.

INDIA SHINING IS NOT REAL ISSUE
by S.RAJAH IYER on Feb 02, 2004 04:20 PM

When do you feel Good?Only when you feel that you are in the right Track-not necessarily in a welfare state all of a sudden.A child feels good as long as it is able to walk 2 steps and falls 3 steps but grows with confidence. Our country has never made ourselves-Indians more prouder than during Vajpayee's period? We have been Brainwashed to such an extent that Indians can Thank only a Nehru Clan for all the Freedom Struggles,Freedom of speech,Secularism-can anyone remember personalities like Lokamanya Tilak,JP(who became Impotent in 1942 when he was forced sit on Ice Block for 42 hrs by the Britishers!)Kripalani,Rajaji,Sardar Patel,Subhash Cahndra Bose etall?
It pained me the other day -95% of the people interviewed in a Tamil TV Channel cdnt recognise Swami Viveknanda-the Man who single handedly brought pride to every Indian in the 19th Century? It is time the uneducated(may be literate but uneducated)are educated that what is real pride that we carry-we carry a tradition,we carry a hsitory, our track must be truthful-as long as our objectives are Truthful too!

India Shining - an aftermath
by Hari Padmanabhan on Feb 01, 2004 12:14 PM

Certain constituencies derive their sustenance only through perpetuation of poverty and malgovernance. These are the only "certainties" in their world view as it enables them to "speak up" on behalf of the poo and rail against the "establishment". This has been the theme of assorted communist parties world over (India seems to the last bastion of these worthies) and unrepenting socialists. When India opened up its closed, incestuous patronage and pedigree dominated economy in 1991 Indian industry was forced to shape up or collapse. To its credit, much of Indian industry shaped up and is today able to compete in the world scene in the face of declining import duties, disappearing tax shelters, vanishing entry barriers and freely available technology. What has this meant to the professional cynics of the left ? Increasing isolation apart, it has meant loss of support from their "core" constituency - the poor and deprived ! This "core" sees through the mass communication media that they too can escape the poverty trap through education and enterprise. The Government merely needs to keep the momentum of the reforms and usher in peace in the neighborhood for the message to gain traction

Commenting on Mr. Dasgupta's article.
by Chinmay R. Rahalkar on Feb 01, 2004 10:01 AM

Bravo Mr. Dasgupta. Atleast there are still journalist left who believes in India and Indian progress. Notwithstanding the anti-globalisation meet in Mumbai, the campeign of Congress, the so called main opposition party, is really shameful. I don't get one point that what do they (the congress, and leftist-secularist)mean when they say that only 3 percent of the popultion will get the benifit and Golden Quandrangle project will be useful only for people in the Cities? I mean, either these secualarist are blind(which includes 'economicst' like Swaminathan Anakaleshwar Aiyyar) or they just can't stand with the fact that India is moving ahead on its own. Mr. Dasgupta correctly points out that if these secularist start believing in India's abilities then they will be jobless. Well! Its better to have these people jobless than having most of the Indian people jobless because of them. Good job Mr. Dasgupta, atleast you can see the truth and can put forth that clearly.

TORMENTOR
same swapan again!
by TORMENTOR on Jan 31, 2004 01:19 PM

Swapan really makes me feel sick. Under the garb of journalism hides this die-hard BJP-wallah. I really wonder if there's a khakhi chaddi (of the RSS) beneath his trousers.Few discrepencis and misinformations he wants to pass off as journalism. 1.there may be feel good factor among the middle class, but what about the majority who belong to the poor class? and its this poor class that votes.
2. not all slum dwellers r bangladeshis! there r crores of indians living in slums.i really wonder if by bangladeshis he means all indian muslims.
3.WSF had attracted attention not because of the rape but b'coz of the issues they raised. Can his mind ever match the brilliant article written by arundhati roy published in THE HINDU newspaper? and remember she gave away crores of rupees as donations to various organisations. what wud have swapan done had he been in her place? ........??? c'mon he wud have enjoyed THE FEEL GOOD FACTOR!
4. he speaks casualy about gujrat as if it was nothing. Does he remember the well-planned massacres and rapes committed by chaddi-wallahs which he often tries to pass off as Hindu anger?

Rightly said

You've hit the bulls eye. But is it not the same media (to which you too belong) which patronises and give prominence to these busy bodies ? These self proclaimed do-gooders and experts have opinion and solution for everything, and it is the media which put them on headlines. Ordinary folks have enough intelligence to decide whats good for them, and of course they can decide whether India is shining is not.

Saffron Swapan
by GB on Jan 30, 2004 11:48 AM

Swapan, I dont know if you were born with saffron glasses (the wrap-around types) or acquired them later in life. That they are permanently perched on your nose is blatantly obvious. The WSF was for a good cause and it did achieve its objective of rendering a protest to imperialism. The US is legislating a ban on outsourcing. That was just one point on the WSF agenda. Saffron glass may give you a new perspective but despite the totally gross misdoings of the NDA/RSS/VHP, India is still a beautiful place. Swapan, remove the saffron glasses and check out the Indian rainbow.
