I AGREE!

I agree with you Mr.Author. Someone go and tell Mrs. Gandhi that the days of blind votes are gone now(!), the voter now thinks about the options available to him before pushing the ballat button(!!).

good article

The author has pointed out what i had been doubting all along. That these leftists are nothing but people with huge egos and superiority complexes. It is the "follow me, i will lead you to light" crap all over again. There seems to be a parallel between leftists and christian evangelists!! They think that they can lead the masses out of poverty, of course the money will have to come from the government. I am all for democracy and freedom of speech, but these leftist and congress miss the point so spectacularly that it is difficult to indulge in a sane logical argument with them. Regarding India shining, there is still a lot to do, we have not even achieved 10% of the goals.
no indian can rest until every child in india has the full freedom and opportunity to realise her/his potential!!

A sad line in a marvellous piece of writing

"For international NGOs and the clutch of Christian evangelists, a developed India involves both irrelevance and joblessness for themselves"- I'm an evangelical Indian Christian, who believes in the exclusivity of Christ's claims. A developed India is what I've always desired. Nothing I believe and preach is inimical to India's progress. I've never compromised on national integration and the need for national self-sustenance in all my evangelism. I agreed with all you had to say except when I came on your sentence branding people like me as hoping for India's downfall. A very sad and very illogical statement, sir, in what is otherwise an insightful commentary.

India Shining is not the real issue
by Moumita on Jan 28, 2004 11:54 PM

India is shining even if in patches. Whatever
anyones says the feel-good factor would
permeate to all levels and usher in all round
development for us. We cannot turn back now and
not keep our tryst with destiny.

India Shining

While some"educated and elite" Indians may be anti America, and anti Bush, they must consider the effects of free trade and capitalism on India's growth. After having stagnated for 43 years after Independence under the Nehru Socialist Raj, the country has made dramatic strides. The comp[uter revolution in India and the large remittances from abroad are attributable to free trade, and the acceptance in foreign countries of Indian workers and Indian people. In time , this will lead to emergence of India as a global power, and the Indian ideas of religious tolerance and philosophy will come to be accepted widely, even in racially biased countries such as France and Germany. Free trade has come at the cost of loss of jobs in the USA, but the trend cannot be stopped. Indians such as Arundhathi Roy should insted focus their efforts on eliminating corruption in India, and on improving education for women and children

Just because they do not agree with your party does not mean they are stupid. About winning an election, If you win an election does not mean people support you there are lots of ways of winning an election. I agree with the BJP on the golden quadrilateral but not on the garland canal. Trying to fight with nature can only solve some peoples problems but create problems for others. Case in point is the ecological disaster in the aral sea. and the arid deserts of china. And if in all the mad ness somebody makes a case in point. It would make sense to look at their point too. You would have definately agreed with medha patkar if it was your house on the line.

India's feel good or fail good factor
by Vinay on Jan 28, 2004 06:42 PM

The raise of the question "are we going on the right track?" shows that we are being mislead at some or the other point of time in the glitter of the temporary inpour of jobs and temporary raise of forex levels. The country is made to feel good - other than that what about the taxes that sucked the blood till last year, what about the religious tensions that poured in, what about the corruption in defense and all the other sectors, what about the earthquake relief that was swallowed, what about hunger deaths, what about the insecurity enjoyed by the Indian workers, the list goes beyond limits... the reality is BJP has made India a use and throw market in the whole world. 50 years of development from independence was the foundation of a vibrant India which has been misutilised by unfit people in the last 5 years.

Excellent

Excellent - very well said and exposed the bluffs of these socialists. I have suggestions for likes of Roys and Patkars - win an election first and then engage in crusade against the Governments. Yes, Governments are quite often wrong in their development agendas but fighting under the banner of NGOs is non-sense. Let Megha Patkar win a Parliament election from the Narmada area and then fight against Narmada. As for Arundhati Roy - she is completely useless bunch (even more useless than Patkar).
