The Real Issue
by Venkata Srinivas on Jan 28, 2004 04:36 PM

The real issue with India Shining is absense of wholistic picture. We have some patches that are shining and other patches are looking up. It is time that we realize one factor - the Government play the role of a representative whole that takes care of its people rather than putting its nose into everything including the business in the country. The direction of today's india is undisputedly correct as the Government is offloading all profit making entities from its head and keeping the focus on Infrastructure, Agriculture and welfare topics. The changes need its own time but the direction is certainly good. It seems we all realized the opportunity ahead of us as a Country to help and rule the world. If our intellectual property in the form of Doctors, Scientists and Technocrats can develop economies like US can they not help our own motherland? There surely will be some patches where India is not shining and we should focus on those patches as well and I think that is happening now. Gandhi factor now is strengthening the opposition because the Gandhi leadership style is found to be irrelevant now. So we still need the Gandhis for the right path and they are verymuch there.

It is really a very good article. There is nothing that it can be criticised. Well done Mr. Dasgupta.

feel good?
by phalaksh on Jan 28, 2004 04:26 PM

i think this web site is turning out 2 b a political site as much as they allow any amar akbar anthony to write here who dont have a clue what they are talking about.
if congress feels its not much of a progress even though they are the ones who are leading this feel good factor, bangalore , mumbai and delhi.[this is where people are feeling good]. this author talks like a communist , every individual has to say something if he wants to say it, or else people like [cant remember his name, gujarath cm] will make sure to kill thousands to come back to power or there will be some other communal violence and false promises.
india and china were not too far from each toher before BJP took over , now see wht happened? china is gone too far and all the states led by BJP are gone back few years economically only places who seems to be making progress are led by congress.
any way world social forum is good at least it makes people aware of social issues and injustices ,
and they will b sure not to vote anyone blindly becoause they promise to build a ram mandir [oh my god, wher is it?]

Swapan Das Gupta on India Shining.
by Vishvas on Jan 28, 2004 04:25 PM

One of the Very Few articles making sense in current day Indian Politics. One specific sentence, "If you look at Gutter, You See only sewage" particularly takes a dig at the attitude of the Congress. If India saw something called as development, that was in the Post DYNASTY Period.

Way to go!!!
by Govind Haridas on Jan 28, 2004 04:24 PM

Swapan - may ur tribe increase. We need more visionaries like you to spearhead our nation's thrust into the international arena. Just sick and tired of the pseudo secularists and the 'babu packed Gandhi clan'.

Have been an avid reader of ur articles lately. Love to see more of them as they speak of reality. I percieve the 'rightist' leanings (pro-NDA) in ur articles but no complaints as the 'rightists' are currently serving the interests of the country just fine.

negative minded congress
by saurav mittra on Jan 28, 2004 04:11 PM

sometimes i think the congress is totally against the idea of seeing india progressing as if the masses progresses, the party looses its voter base. when people become educated they don't vote for the the dynasty, they vote for the issues. congress dosen't want that. i think the the vajpayee government is the best thing that has happend to the indian system for the last 50 years. i agree it has its fallings, but it has performed better than the last 50 years combined

India Shining is not the real issue
by Ravi A on Jan 28, 2004 04:03 PM

It is too good an analysis. Mr Dasgupta has rightly touched upon the core issue. In the backdrop of Johny mera.... episode it makes very interesting reading. At least here is a govt rather machinery trying to raise Indian Image in a scietific manner - at the same time it is disappointing to see the pathetic response of the other side. Todays news item in leading daily that top rated advertising companies have been called to counter the "feel good" factor by projecting "fail good" factor is height of stupidity as to whom we are projecting "fail good" factor. No responsible person would think of this aspect as it tantamounts to degrading ourselves in our own foresight. Hope this section of the so called "saviors" of our great country realise what they are upto before it is too late.
