I fully agree with him. Blaming ISI openly everytime projects our uneffectiveness to curb down such activities, poor interlligence and political diplomacy and tactics.Unfortuanately our leaders lack political or diplomatic maturity.Somewhere problems also lies with our electoral system which gives so much political unstability that it becomes difficult for any government to plan for international strategy.Opposition behaves like step son who always want to snash away the power from the one ruling. Also people like him doesnot come into active politics. Why to blame for these illiterate politician only.We are making ourselves susceptible in the hands of such people.
I agree with Mr. Balchandran's assessment regarding the lack of dedication and sincerity in the intelligence business. Unfortunately, ministers are auctioning senior police positions. This disuades competent police personnel from chasing jobs in the intelligence service.
We need to learn from Israel. The intelligence service attracts their very best and in spite of that, there is contiued violence. It may happen to us, where the progress of India might be tarnished by repeated acts of violence.
As Secretary Balchandran states, we need to initiate dialogs with Muslim groups. Their concerns might be genuine. Rather than adopt a policy of isolating them, let's see if we can work with them for better economic prosperity and education for their youth. If they are busy with work and schooling, the chances of distraction are smaller. Plus, if some terrorist organization will fail to snatch thier "roti"
special -intelligence departments of all police force and transfers should be under the likes of mrbalachandran,mr riberio, etc.without the help of the muslim community this problem cannot be solved.like in the military the police selection has to be done on merits and not on caste/community.Like in other police dept, there should be reservation in the police force for exservicemen.this people cannot be that corrupt and r trained as such. Many policeman-especially constables live in pathetic conditions, theirlivingstandard -work condition should also improve. If indian intelligence is going to help blast (in case)like that of the crownplaza in karachi, -isi will follow suit.we should be prepared.I would like to ask mr balachandra, like the FBI and CIA should we not have a direct recruting method for our central intellignce agencies, instead of through police dept.??? average public even people with appitude and zeal do not know how to join the intelligence services.country could be losing goog candidates. Instead of defending proxy wars, army -bsf-crpf camp attacks, kargil, siachen, bomb blast, will it not be cheaper to confront PAKISTAN IN A CONVENTIONAL WAR??? ASHIT THAKER
Our failure establishes only this that our determination to suceed was not strong enough. May be our intelegence has been poor but this not time to point our finger on intelligence we need to review why it failed ? why it is poor ? we need to find out the way to make our intelligence on top of all. Jaihind
Thank God this gentleman in not muslim. Otherwise he might had been be labelled as 'ISI agent' or 'desh drohi'. As was seen, immidietly after the unfortunate incident of mumbai balsts, our deputy PM concluded that this crime was committed by SIMI or lasjker or JEM even prior to any invetigation. How can a responsible person holding such a high profile portfolio comment on such an important matter without any proper investigation ? The very same day maharastra home minister told the media that ahle-hadees was behind this. And now there's another theory. I urge these Gentleman and their like to stop playing politics over innocent lives and identify the culprits and punish them.
I think it was very thought provoking and revealing interview. I did not know Indian intelligence was so poor despite the fact that we officers like Mr.Bala. Even I was blaming Pakistan for everything.
Its no wonder police have forgottan thir basic duty of protectiong the citizens of INDIA .
the policeforce in any police station are primarily doing the following work
1) hafta from all commercial establishment in the area from pan bedi shop to Hair cutting saloon.
2) Get lumpsome money in the name of filmsy threats . in mumbai and thane police SHO od evry station visited the cyber cafes in pretext of anipirecy chek and thretenned the owners about the Pron sites thir customers may have visited , and made up to caugh up 25000 to 40000 Rs per center . just imagine the scaled of operation and there was no report of this in any newspaper .
3) Why the Tarafic police more intrested in towing away the vehicles than putting approriate sighn boards . coz most of the towing agencies and the auto rickshows taxies ae owned by policemen themselfs.
100 police me 99.99 beemaan fir bhi mera desh mahan

Hi you are right. Mumbai police is more interested in gathering intelligence on couples and dance girls and is now in higher spiritual state of moral policing. They do not have any time for terrorists
I especially liked the part regarding Advani. Yes, Sir, that guy has lost it. But, I also disagree with you on 2 counts. 1) Israel can be very useful to us. We need to cultivate them. It matters little whether we are dealing with Sharon or Rabin or Netanyahu. Our interests are predominant. We ought to give a little, take a little. 2) Blaming the ISI for everything is ridiculous but there is no question that they are heavily involved in trying to undermine our sovereignty. We desperately need to improve our intelligence. Our leaders, however, are corrupt. If only we had an Intelligence Bureau independent of the govt. like the Election Commission headed by someone like Lyngdoh or you, for that matter !!! Still no reason to despair. We can still remedy the situation provided there is a genuine desire to do so.
Now take this, this comes form the Horse's mouth. No serving police officer or Home minister is willing to accept in public that police stations are corrupt. This straightforward ex police offier says this. Do we need any more evidence that police is corrupt in this country.
