Shocking security failure
by AJ on Jun 14, 2003 01:33 PM

While one can discount what Guruswami has to say about the dangers posed by the southern economic union, what he has to say about the failure to detect the intrusion by Pak funded terrorists does make sense.
Lest one forget, this is the biggest intrusion of militants into our territory since Kargil, 1999.

Pakistan backed terrorists have occupied terrritory 35 kilometers inside our portion of the LoC.

It makes one wonder what the PMO and the cabinet secretariat (to whom our intel agencies give their intelligence inputs) are doing..whatever they are doing, they arent doing their jobs.
If Pakistan has been successful in intruding into our territory, it seems to be as much our fault as theirs. A country whose political leadership fails to detect two intrusions in a spell of 4 years (Kargil and now), has definitely something to think about..the belief that the NDA government would guard National security now looks ludicrous.
Howcome all intrusions into our territory by terrorists are succesful only when the NDA in in power?

no state should be allowed to take any steps that would infuse dissident amongst states and the nation. irrespective of the short term benefits that it would get. but these are exactly what the us and eu would want to break up india as they did the ussr. (i'm sure it broke up bcause of communilism, but india isnt far behind in the dirty politians filling up their own pockets, there by depriving the people of good governance and basis needs. this only makes the section with power grow richer and the poorer become poorer which eventually will bring in more caste / divisions within society)
when states go out with the begging bowl, the center make the collatral. and the center should lay down strict conditions on such funding irrespective of the govt in the state or center. if there is accountability in the system there is progress.

i agree though supporting the nationalist vies of the bjp. i guess they need to act on their so called aggressive plans. india needs to send a strong message to pak and to the world that we can and will act in the interest of security. i guess we have to have a layer of thick skin and shrug off the pressure that us and eu tends to put on us, just like the isrealis. inspite of the peace road may they continued their attack on hamas who killed 17 in a bus.
unless we act on the statments we will remain a toothless tiger in the views of the world and that need to chage asap.

Well said everyone..

Well done everyone who shared their views. Its the best thing we INDIANS do pull our own leg, or I may rephrase pull the legs of people who dare to speak up.

Everyone is looking what he has written, can you not try to read between the lines. The guy was in the ministry he knows things and politics better then many of us, he may be biased but what he is pointing to is that we the public are sleeping and dont want to know and dont want to take any action against what we already know. Keep it up guys, keep supporting the religious leaders busy in the religious fight and ignore the country and the money these guys make out of us the INDIANS by selling us the same story years after years.

Stop thinking 'what this man has written is totally irrelevant', look at the broader picture.

Jai Hind.

I cant understand how one can see every thing negatively. I thinks he just hates BJP. You can question the policies but you should not question the patriotism of the BJP.
I dont know what he expects India to do with the nuclear weapons. it will be used as a deterrent only. u cant go on throwing nuclear tipped missiles on all your enemies.
it is insane to imagine that economic cooperation between states which are geographically close to each other. do you expect AP to form an economic block with Bengal or Gujarat?
it is a fact that southern states are trying hard to develop. there is a healthy competition developing in the country and every CM talks these days about good governance and reforms.

Southern Economic Forum
by Bhanu Prakash on Jun 14, 2003 11:06 AM

For sometime now, the southern states are involved in a healthy competition to get their share of foreign investment. None, of the so called northern states have woken up for this revolution except a few. If the southern states form a forum to set rules and guidelines to play this competition, then there is no harm in it. You think, this forum will refuse, if any of the northern states want to join them ? If the BJP Government, is not able to forge such an alliance among states, then states can, as well form such an alliance for their betterment and in turn it's people. Neither Mayawati nor rabri, for that matter many of the north indian CMs have an inclination to develop their states. They don't have time for such matters in the first place. They are busy fighting their respective opposition groups.
