I have Mixed Comments for the author.
First of all the tone of his article shows that he is against the present ruling party.Nevermind his concerns about the Border issues are really attention seeking - provided they are true.
His concern about the Souther Economic Union is misplaced.Never mind Mr.GuruSamy we (I am from TN and presently in AP)were born Indians and will die so.We will not compromise the nation for our ends. But at the same time by doing like this we expect the remainingg states also to follow us in bringing the best to people.Instead of blaming the parties in these states why don't u look at the dynamics of the leadership in these states. They are doing far better than those whom u have mentioned in those ABCDEF states.Do not try to FOOL people for more!!!!
And finally the mention of loss of lives at this time!!!This is a global scenario.Good heavens that u didn't write that there is no sufficient rain all over the country which is because of the present Govt run by BJP.We expect U learned people to be MORE BALANCED than us....Not Like this!!!!!1

Interesting!

I am from Bangalore. If southern states improve and help India economically why should it be considered a drawback? We do the basics ie, try to make money and lead a normal life. It doesnt matter whether other states show the same passion, but we do it both for ourselves and for our beloved country. We want India to be recognized in the world. Ofcourse corruption happens in south India as well, but overall successes are more in the south.

In my opinion we should have healthy competition among ourselves so that the final outcome is a strong india. look at karnatak and AP, both fight with each other for getting software companies. but the end result is good for India.. right??

Lets keep the Indianess going.

Jai Hind!

Southern states are leading by example
by Adarsh on Jun 13, 2003 07:30 PM

Hello Mr. Guruswamy,
I guess you did not read the news that Mayawati, the CM of UP was in US telling the US corporations that UP will provide everything that southern states might provide.
Do you understand anything from this? This is leading to good competitive spirits among the states and even the so-called hindi-speaking states are getting a clue from the southern states and acting upon it. I am not sure why you are opposing it, when hindi-speaking states are endorsing the actions of southern states through their above-mentioned acts.
Good competition always leads to better atmosphere in any sphere, be business, economy or education. That is how states in US compete to improve their particular states and they have suceeded.

Regards,
Adarsh

Guruswamy's fix
by Gopakumar KK on Jun 13, 2003 07:29 PM

The first part about the terrorist camp well inside India is something worth investigating. However The South Economic forum is nothing as projected by the author. It is time to have regional autonomy and financial independance for the better managedstates to prosper. After all you get what you deserve!!

Mr Advani, are you reading this?

Obviously Mr Guruswamy you are on Vajpayee's side. There is too much of Advani bashing including Loh Purush. You have to remember infighting and understanding makes only BJP stronger unlike infighting and scuttling. There are so many examples for the latter (Morarji,Charan Singh), (VP Singh, Devilal) last but not least (Chandrasekar,Deve gowda, IK Gujral). But this is the first combo of the former.
But most important Politicians donot know when to quit including Mr Vajpayee.I thought Mr Vajpayee was different from the rest. But i am wrong.

Why not make Mr Advani the successor and the future with MM Joshi,Modi,Jaitley and the rest. So that the rest of the BJP Clan will have a taste of power know what they are working for?

Vajpayee, Advani understanding is so good that is why this boat has not rocked yet.

You know we must have law like the US a PM's and CM's cannot compete for more than 1 election term. However high or mighty he/she might be?

The former's assist the latter in the nation building unlike Mr Guruswamy's shameful and useless bashing of someone.

We can take a leaf out of Mr Narashimha Rao. The Chankya finished his term and moved into the background.

Southern Economic Union
by B.Bagchi on Jun 13, 2003 07:23 PM  | Hide replies

I fully agree that the formation of a southern economic union is very dangerous to the unity and integrity of the country. As it is without any formal union the southern states discriminate in jobs against nothern, eastern and western Indian guys, whereas you see them taking all lucrative positions in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. It is time these non southern Indian guys stand up against these policies.

See this! Such a reply in 21st Century! Mr/Ms. Bagchi, there should actually be something in the vessel if you want to scoop something out of it. So no use of blaming 'those' guys take up lucrative positions! They get them because they fit in. Why should we whine about that?

Bagchi,

Where is a discrimination for North Indian talent anywhere in the south. Do you know how many North Indians have settled and are leading peaceful lives in Bangalore, Hyderabad... How can we prosper if we fight along caste, language, region...
Our strength lies in our diversity and lets encourage it and keep it going
Even if you faced some discrimination, i'm sure its only an isolated incident. Please don't propose such dumb discriminations and destroy the fledgling cultural fabric of my country

With this kind of advisors...No Wonder India is still under-developed country.
by Vadivel on Jun 13, 2003 07:01 PM

India is a single country & every state is dependent on each other in one way or other.

When we talk about SAFTA with Pakistan & SriLanka why not some states form co-operation for better up-lifting of its people.

Hindi States were fighting for political power. Whereas souther states are progressing economically even without any financial support from Centre.

If some states develop faster other should support it & read its success story. Not to scuttle in the bud.

What an idiotic approach of an advicer to the Finance Minister. No wonder our country is still struggling to find place in the Global map.

Guruswamy has brought out into the public, interesting games that politicians in the country are playing. It takes courage to do so.
Definitely it is the failure of Mr.Vajapayee,Mr.Advani and Mr.Fernandes,in that order that they have been ignorant of the fact that Paki's are on our soil and still want to initiate peace talks.Absolutely gut wrenching. How can they still sleep and go around the world as if nothing is happening? All of them should immediately resign and let somebody else in the NDA take up a more stronger position against PAK.
Why is it so difficult for our government to admit that our policies are Pak centric and major part of our economic growth stifled because of this policy, even if are proclaiming otherwise.
Truly gutless and spineless government and even more spineless Opposition.
I agree with Guruswamy.

Wondering
by Bejoy Pillai on Jun 13, 2003 06:57 PM  | Hide replies

I always wondered why India never used outright force against the terrorist. In the recent operations when the army went in and busted the terrorist setup why was the airforce not used? The argument provided is that shooting down of an aircraft will be highly embarrassing. Ok what about the much flaunted Prithiv isnt this an ideal scenario to test the missile, find the position and fire it with a 1000kg warhead. A couple of those would wipe out the camps with no loss on Indian side.

One of the most stupid article I have ever read on Rediff !
by Manjunathan PY on Jun 13, 2003 06:48 PM

First point accussing BJP is wrong b'cos , BJP is the one who is trying to do something to end terrorism, naturally the terrorists don't like this !
And everytime an army guy kills any terrorists, NHRC comes out with blazing media comments on Human right violation by army, but the same NHRC is as silent as rock and doesn't talk a word when things like Gujrat riot, akashardam temple, parliment attack etc.
Why NHRC doesn't appeal or protest against these terrorists who kill our soldiers, innocent civilians and police men and women ! Why ?
Second point 4 southern states are intelligent enough to form such as block so that a single entity they contribute better entire Indian economy. Mr Mohan you are 100 % wrong in saying this economic unity shall lead to division of the nation, I beg to differ here,
In fact it is the other way which shall happen, as these four states prosper, other states shall join and prosper better! What is problem with "birds of feather flock together" funda ! it is win-win situation.
Further, if these 4 southern states didn't something like this economic union, they too would suffer the consequence of being lazy/inactive such as North Eastern states!
