his author is trying to defame Khanna. Just consider the logic - Khanna despite being the highest paid actor was appraoched by producers again and again thats the reason he has 106 solo hero films and only 22 muti star films.He holds record for max films as solo lead hero author backed roles.Producers never shied away. Plus each producer and director has repeated Khanna in 3 films minimmum.His filmography from 1966-1991 proves a lot. He has min 2 films releasing every year from 1969-1991. He has 95 box office hits and got the best music because he used to sit for music sessions.Thats possible only when you are liked by all and respected for your acting skills.RK was very humble and infact generous. Poeple have taken bunglows, cars from him and inudustry people have praised him for being so humble - Khayyam, Raza Murad, Amitabh etc in interviews.Also Amitabh just did angry young man films. Khanna's fimography shows he has done wide varity of films of many genres and achieved success. Romance was just an element in Khanna's films but each film of his was of different genre.Avatar was remade as Baghbhan, Anokha Rishta remade as Lamhe,Nishabd and Sachca Jhuta as Don. Go and See Redrose, Aaj Ka M.L.A Ram Avatr, Babu, Tyaag, Amardeep, Awaaz, Bawarchi etc-- were they romantic films ? they were each of different genres. A personality who became famous in 1969 and by 1980 all forgot him. Practically non-important person. He wanted to rule film industry in his way. This was proved by him by marrying 'bobbygirl'. Soon he got tired of alliance and got rid of her. What he has done to industry? He had mono type acting. His songs were hit because almost 90% were sung by late Kishore Kumar with some beautiful music. His films were hit because he was a new found for the industry after regular faces of Dev, Raj, Dilip etc. Rajesh shamelessly acted in C grade film for money in 2008. So why eulogize certain third grade personality? He might be good in his time, but let us be aware that there are many like him in the acting now. The usual dialogues used by people in expressing sorrow after death need not make us emotional.

Mr Phadnis, Great Kishore Kumar sang for dozens and dozens of heroes over decades but none of them became Rajesh Khanna, it was the persona of only RK who achieved that height. As for C grade film... name one actor who has worked in so many films and not given a single flop movie. Even Big acted in many such films this doesn't mean that degrades him as an iconic actor. It's foolish to say that there are many like him today. These actors of today become a star overnight due to media channels then fade away by the end of the week.

Mr Phadnis, you are very right in your assessment. Rajesh Khanna was like a very short dream that came and went. He was not consistent either as an actor/star or as a person.
People had forgotten him but it's his death that has forced to people talk about him. Anyways, Kishore Kumar is always remembered but the same can not be said about Khanna.

Who said Khanna was forgotten by eighties? How can a person then get Filmfare Special Award in 1991 for completeing 101 solo hero movies? He has 95 box office hits and remeber he has worked in only 15 films after 1991...so that proves the hard work he has done from 1966-1991 - that the reason his totall tally of movies reads 153 films (106 solo and 22 mutil star alone). Kishore and RD were his best friends. And he did not get the music for free...he ensured there is quality in songs and lyrics. He used to sit for music sessions. GO AND listen to Asha Bhosle in Indian Idol - 21ST JULY episode. She recalls how Khanna was involved with music. Khanna was versatile superstar ..didnot stuick to unrealistic action movies or formula films. He did movies of different genres and still had 95 box office hits, his flops were critically acclaimed. In his whole career of 180 mobies in 40 years has only some 9-10 bad movies. He was highest paid actor cause he was in demand and a better actor. What other actors took 10 hours to give to director, same class of performance RK gave in 3 hours. RK has 73 Golden Jub hits and 22 silver Jub hits from 1967-1991. He did not take much time to get into skin of character like Aamir Khan or even if more films release in a year, Khanna 's filsm did not flop. In 1985 Khanna had 11 releases but 8 were hits.Every year he had min 2 release and min 1 hit every year from 1967-1991.SO WHO IGNORED HIM? NO ONE .he was out of limelighht after 1999.

Kishore Kumar was trying to establish himself as a singer since the fifties, but only Dev Anand gave him songs to sing. He always longed to be a popular singer. He had almost given up his dream when Shakti Samanta wanting to get an alternate voice for his new hero asked Kishore Kumar to sing for Rajesh Khanna. He was reluctant as he had lost hope to fulfill his dream. After meeting Rajesh Khanna he was somewhat convinced and wanted to give one last try. The result is for all to see. The thing is Rajesh Khanna established the range and capability of Kishore's voice in songs through his superb lip syncing (Incomparable with anyone, except perhaps Dilip Kumar) of Kishore Kumar songs and opened up the possibility of fitting his voice to all heroes. His superb acting of songs is the reason we are equally mesmerized when he lip syncs Mukesh's voice in Anand, Kati Patang, Manna Dey in Anand, many of Rafi's songs. He even made Mohd Aziz and Amit Kumar voice convincing to his personality in Amrit and Aakhir Kyon, Suresh Wadekar in Dhanwan and Disco Dancer and Anwar in Janta Hawaldar. In fact, it is Amitabh who lost the most when Kishore Kumar died as he could not lip sync any other singers convincingly except perhaps his own voice and of Sudesh Bhosle. RK shone in movies in spite of playing secondary characters. His film had roles for everyone, not unlike today’s heroes or even AB who chopped other actors’ roles to enhance their appeal. Tell me one thing, when you listen to songs on the radio, does it really matter as to who is the actor?
Kishore Kumar's resurgence should be attributed to the compositions of R.D. Burman and not Rajesh Khanna. RD Burman's songs were ideally for Kishore's style and that's precisely why Kishore Kumar became the numero uno singer in the 70s. Kishore Kumar has sung many chartbusters, a lot of them not picturised on Rajesh Khanna.
