rahman's music in robot is highly confusing and the vocals are also sub-dued... rahman should have given more emphasize on the vocals than on the background music. its like they are singing to themselves. the rating given in this review is right. looks like the film director and others have confused arr about the music that they want. remember how arr composed for sdm directed by danny boyle... danny knew what he wanted and gave a clear picture of the music he wanted and rahman could easily make it. more than blaming arr, shankar should take the blame for the music if its not good.

that you should ask the americans and the oscar academy members who voted for it... dont forget his other song 'o.. saaya' from the same movie was also nominated for the best song category. also rahman's songs were nominated or short-listed a number of times in the past also.
Quality it seems is inversely proportionsl to quantity. The more prolific a composer the more the deterioration in quality. What started off as a whiff of fresh music has now come down in quality.Nobody wants to criticise someone who has achieved fame.

The best and most apt post undoubtedly so far! The guy is after money..nothing wrong in that..its his personal choice...just like its the audiences choice to pick good music. Audiences do not have the vested interest of music houses and hence the true reviews have started coming in!

You are 100% right.Nobody wants to criticise someone who has achieved fame. The charm of music I saw in Roja now I don't see from latest Rehman films.
Two of the most overrated, hyped people get together in Robot! A R Rahman, barring a few albums, have been always like this, producing highly repetitive, cacophonies over and over again. Its a shame that the others are now identifying Indian music with the creation of a very average music arranger! Rahman is the true epitome of a pop icon - a over hyped character publicized beyond proportions by the music houses. Shankar is worse. His movies are vehicles of squandering money only with huge star cast, no or outrageous story, over-the-top ugly presentation to the core! In fact commenting on his movies is a pure of waste of time!

My views are almost like your's. Rehman is the most overrated & much hyped music director. If you compare him with his guru Ilayaraja, he is nothing. The real King (Ilayaraja) must have created too many 'Jai hos' which could have own oscars. ARR is very stereo type, repeatative & boring....but lucky I don't want to waste my time discussing about Shanker.
