BE DECENT .
by SUNIL on Jan 23, 2010 10:10 AM

ITS NOT ABOUT FAME CHETAN IS TALKING. HE HAS WRITTEN THE STORY. AGREED FOR A ROLLING CREDIT. BUT THE PRODUCERS CAME UP WITH AN ADDITIONAL IDEA OF SHOWING CREDIT OF THE STORY TO SOMEONE ELSE IN THE BEGINNING AND IN THE END BASED ON TO CHETAN BHAGAT. I THINK, IF IT WAS ONLY " BASED ON IN THE ROLLING CREDIT AND NO CREDIT OF STORY TO ANY ONE ELSE, CHETAN WOULD HAVE KEPT QUIET. NOW THE PRODUCERS ARE CLAIMING THAT THEY HAVE GIVEN THE DUE CREDIT MENTIONED IN THE CONTRACT, TO CHETAN. RIGHT THEY ARE BUT THEY DID SOMETHING MORE ALSO BY CREDITING THE STORY TO SOMEONE IN THE START OF THE MOVIE. THIS IS CHEATING AND ESCAPING BY CITING LAW POINTS. IF IT IS BASED ON FPS, THE STORY CREDIT SHOULD ALWAYS REMAIN WITH THE AUTHOR WHO HAD THIS PLOT FROM HIS IMAGINATION. THE SCRIPT WRITERS CAN TAKE CREDIT OF SCRIPT BY OR ADAPTED BY ONLY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DECENT IF THEY SHOW BOTH IN THE BEGINNING AS FOLLOWS:-
BASED ON THE NOVEL
FIVE POINT SOME ONE
BY CHETAN BHAGAT

SCREENPLAY/ADAPTATION BY
ABHIJIT AND RAJ...
LEGALLY THEY MAY BE RIGHT AS PER THE CONTRACT. BUT THEY HAVE DONE MORE THAN THAT ETHICALLY.

Yes friend,u r absolutely right. We wanted aamir the perfectionist to acknowledge this in any print media. But he has taken all the credit himself.Does he think that all indians are fools, when he says that he hasn't read FPS,before starting the 3I.Good God,he tried his best to take the credit away from Chetan Bhagat. But Chetan Bhagat is not Amol Gupte. He is this generations best writer.AAmir has understood this finally(after burning his fingers), and now he is trying to hide his face off it.Whole world would watch in shame, when this 3I team collects BEST SCRIPT AWARD in the coming months.I greately admire aamir muvies but I am also a fan of Chetan Bhagat. This controversy has at least prooved that nobody is perfect,( or better a PERFECTIONIST).

by suman on Jan 05, 2010 12:39 PM  | Hide replies

is it a "planned" controversy? People who watched the movie will be driven to read the book and compare. And those who read the book will definitely watch the movie. Film will be a hit. A new print of five point someone will soon be on stands. Profit for both of them. We the people are ready to spend and pay heed to all these fights... he he he

of Chetan Bhagat think the story was plagiarised. They dont understand the meaning of the terms plot or screen play, the reality is chetan bhagat signed a contract and everything has worked out as per contract. Now he is talking of ethic and morality, well how ethical and moral is Chetan Bhagat himself personally before telling others as immoral or unethical.

Got this piece from chetan's blog
by Rajesh srivastav on Jan 05, 2010 12:15 PM  | Hide replies

This is only for the extra-curious types. While totally not obligated to answer any more allegations, just to clarify on the RH video – no I wasn’t given the script. A top level oral narration is something else and anybody in the film industry will tell you is very different from actually giving the written script. Notice they keep saying he has ‘heard’ the script, not ‘read’ it. In the oral narration, they told me the changes only. Please also note NDA he flashes which has a date of Oct 3, 2007, the so-called narration date. The adaptation deal was done in September 2005. Raju said it took Abhijat ‘3 yrs and 2 months’ to do the script in other interviews. Hence, even if Abhijat started on the deal date, the script was finished in November 2008. So, how could RH narrate it to me in Oct 2007? Go figure. Also, please listen to my full Bollywood Hungama interview they are quoting from, I maintain that my story is the base. Anyway, what matters is the final film vs book. Also, they did not buy rights of the book – they bought the rights to adapt the book – a basic error they continue to make – whether out of lack of knowledge or to evade the issue. And yes there is a contract to adapt the work – but it doesn’t mean they can claim authorship of the story. You can buy a painting, not claim you painted it – basic copyright law. My points are valid, and I am not a liar. Anyway, like I said, we’ve moved on.

So the movie team bought the rights of adaptation to film and that is exactly what they have done (obviously they wouldn't buy the complete rights of the book and start printing as well). Before signing the NDA Chetan should have asked for a copy and read it (he is an MBA and a smart chap) so he could tell us actual differences between Oct 07 script and the final script. It's a fact that most of the films do not remain 100% same as initial script. But if it remains 80 to 90 percent same then it should be fine. Chetan don't answer couple of questions. 1.Did he agree that movie team can change his story the way want to. 2. Did he agree that his name will be in rolling credits? I think second question is there in written. I have seen the printed portion of the contract where it talks about rolling credit.

Enough is enough!
by Srinivasan Iyer on Jan 05, 2010 12:06 PM

It is high time that Chetan kept quiet. After signing a contract, his recent outbursts are only because the movie is a hit and he bargained for too little. As an MBA he should have had more confidence in himself and signed a higher amount- if that is what he wants. But by creating an unnecessary controversy, he has probably succeeded in selling more copies of his book for people to find out that the movie does not at all resemblee with the story in his book!

Dude read the book first and then comment something like that. What chetan is saying is right but on the hind side after signing the contract he shouldn't have commented like that coz he got the portion of money he demanded whatever the nitty gritties are. Just coz the movie is a hit and he wasn't given the due credit, he's angry. No not angry he's annoyed: " Why didn't i ask for more money, why din't i realize that they'll be stealing 70% of the ideas from my book and above all why din't i make a movie based on my book. Damn!!" lol

All our bollywood peole are either plain graduates or 12th pass. they believe everybody in India have limeted knowledge like them and they can manipulate their fans by commenting anything. Raju is looking like a fool on bollywood hungama. I am appaled that how bollywood hungama conviniently edited the video and showed the content, which they liked to show. SHame on bollywood. It has no ethics and more importantly like our politics there is no law in bollywood and they are acting as yester year landlord. who make the poor farmers work since they have signed the cotract but that dosent mean what landlords do are right

A can make B sign a contract that A can kill B, and B would have no problems getting killed. Just because B signed the contract, is the contract above law? A is still a murderer.

Bhagath is not crying about not given the credit, but the way he is being given credit.
His name wantadly appears on the screen when most of the audience have walked out of the theatre.
Second, there is a credit called "story" which is given to Abhijat Joshi. Obviously he didnt write the base story. He wrote only the screenplay.

Chethan's name should have appeared at a time when audience notices who wrote the story, and Abhijat Joshi name should be under screenplay only.

Slumdog millionare, movie credited the author in the end.. as the song Jai Ho played. Audience was still in the seats, when the song played, so everyone knew that its an
adaptation of Vikas Swaroop's book q&a.

Danny Boyle didnt put his name under "story" credit, even though he bought the rights of adapatation from Vikas.
Also, no one took credit for "screenplay". The screenplay writer was credited for "adapted screenplay".

That is Ethics!

Amir should claim fame, by being professional... Raju Hirani shouold stop preaching Gandhigiri when he does not practice it.
