Mani's movies
by super rock on Apr 27, 2010 12:07 PM  | Hide replies

I found Mani's movies like guru,anjali,yuva,dil se,indira etc.boring documentary like movies.
Social movies can be made interesting and entertaining. Shankar's movies The gentleman and Hindustani were far more interesting.

Dude Gentleman,Hindutani,Nayak,Aparichit they all had good social message but those are not realistic movies. They are over the top and loud while ManiRatnam is an excellent film maker who knows his art well and his movies are reflection of reality.. Infact if you see the ending of Yuva,Guru or Bombay he commercialised the climax in an otherwise realistic script.Anyways it is difficult to tell people like you who are hell bent to negate any realistic or different kind of film making. Dude i am not saying Shankar's kind of film making should not be there as there is a huge audience for that but then after exposed to good foreign films there is also a segment who adores film makers like Mani ratnam,Anurag Kashyap,Vishal Bhardwaj,Dibakar Banerjee

Pls, manirathnam is a worst film director. He may be good in making songs, but when it comes to complete movie, he is below average.

bhaisaab..ye kya bol rahe ho?
He is much ahead of many of today's successful directors.
But, the raw passion visible in his earlier movies have been sacrificed for commercial goals in recent years..though he still remains one of the best.

Raavan is oemthing classy that defies stereotype
by arnab bhattacharya on Apr 27, 2010 11:54 AM  | Hide replies

Hey once the same kind of tunes were repeated again and again thus we used to hear the same kind of "melodious" romantic tunes in 90s.. Then with people like ARR & SEL the trend changed. Thankfully with fresh talents good use of western and eastern is used giving us fresh music like DCH,RDB,TZP,Dev D,Kaminey,IShqiya and now I feel Raavan is in this categories. I agree it is not regular run of the mills like Kites or Pritam's music but then it is not for everybody. When one doesn't have the capacity or knowledge to certain from of art one should refrain from making negative comments and ignore it. Everything is not for everyone. While 90% is enjoying Kites, there are odd 10% who loves Raavan and they have a taste for that. In the same way when 90% loves Ajab Prem there are 10% who appreciates the intelligence of films like Dev D,Kaminey or LSD. Personally i am among 10% but i have no grudges against those 90% as because of them the industry is doing its business but when someone is doing something different from the stereotype please dont down him publicly as in the long run it will be these people for whom world will remember Indian cinema. (Satyajit Ray movies used to bomb at the box office but then now they are remember as classic and people having appetite for good cinema laps those films)

Dil se.. was just an average in India, while super hit overseas. Now all are praising this movie in India as classic (same like some Raj Kapoor movies). Indians are like that, they are not ready to accept nice movies first and then praise it like classics...Satyajith Ray movies are examples again. But Mani Ratnam is lucky, his movies get praised when it gets released. Even if it gets flop there are many who praises...and man He is a GEM.

Dil se is super hit overseas? in which country?
It had one of the stupidest last 30 mins...and people really loathed it OVERSEAS!
But nothing against Mani, he is still one of the best!
Just responding to twisted facts!

I liked Kites music much better
by Forrest Gump on Apr 27, 2010 11:37 AM  | Hide replies

Raavan's music is horrible...first i thought it was not Rahman...but when i came to know its he who composed the music, i was astounded...such a piece of trash....i think he has lost it completely after Jai hpo's success...Jai ho itself was a mediocre number...now Rahman thinks he can dish out crap and world will like it...

on the other hand...kites music is very good...i liked it the first time i listened to a couple of it's songs...it has melody and we audiences are sick of modern-day jingles and want original hindustani melody in our songs.

Kites is typical run-of-the-mill types while Raavan is classy fusion of eastern & western music... But i think Indian audience deserves those same old trash which thnkfully we have left after the days of Nadeem-Shravan
