Watch it for EXCELLENCE sake
by GIRISH NAIR on Mar 13, 2009 11:17 PM

The movie is sheer excellence, excellence of the director, excellence of the actors and excellence of the plot which is so close to us all but seem a distant unreality.

Anurag Kashyap scares me with his honesty towards the development of the characters he portray. The characters are real and shows an excellent portrayal of the political system prevalent today. Its an awesome movie and should be watched by everyone who is a wee bit inclined towards intelligent cinema rather than the crappy potboilers.

Gulaal...surely not a revolution!!!
by sabyasachi gangopadhyay on Mar 13, 2009 09:54 PM  | Hide replies

While I was sitting in multiplex and watching the movie with great amount of curiosity, a strange thing was happening....a sardar sitting beside me was bursting into laughter when a desi gali was cracked in the movie(even like demeaning the woman during the ragging)...it was annoying and disturbing but then I realized the essence of the film for some people shall be just like that....and there lies the triumph and failure of gulal as a cinema....

Gulaal is one of those film which has got tremendous potential..alas if it had proper treatment....!!! why the anguish of the protagonist doesn't touch the audience heart at last.... why the poetic satire does't percolate though audience...why the girls character are made in haste...why the music despite being authentic hams sometime during some sequence....these are some of the questions which Mr Kashyap might answer...
I know enough of escapist cinema and we must look for something meaningful....but does that means we should also forget the cinematic experince...a sincere request to Mr Kahsyap..Have you seen these three movies
Holi..kahi yeah oh manzil to nahin and lastly haasil...if yes then you can understand as an audience what I am saying....

Do you mean just because there are people with brains the size of cherries in the audience, a filmmaker like AK should start making childrens fantasies? If you get it, you deserve it. If you don't, tough. Come back when you are smarter. I hope AK never changes his philosophy for brainless gits who come to movie theaters to fool around.

what u said brainless is the most amazing thing in the movie ...dialogues written by piyush were the most genuine
dailuges except the gallis... people like u can only enjoy karan johar's movie ,where there is some kind of emotional attachment in oppoite sex.
beta explore your mind at and observe the people arround u ..and try to meet diff people from diff culture and background ,people who say double meaning sentences , people who express humour by there expression, people who say reality in there talks. u will come to know what u have missed in the movie.

Raja Sen's Usual
by Sayan Banerjee on Mar 13, 2009 09:48 PM

This is just the usual material expected from someone like Raja Sen, who is the self-proclaimed spokesperson of all the cynics that reside in India. But for a change, the criticism is more towards the constructive side, but it is my guess that that stems from the fact that AK made a movie more suited to his intellectual faculties (or the lack of it). Good job, hope you'll straighten out with time.

Perfect review
by Guest on Mar 13, 2009 09:20 PM

It is almost exactly what I felt after seeing the movie. The ending is abrupt and the second half disappoints. But a excellent movie anyway. Great performance by KK.
3/5.

PS: Could not understand Kirans hold over the men.

THe film is great for the thinking audience. It definitely doesn't have the mass appeal cause it gets a bit abstract and deep. A great watch for people who are looking to identify with current political system of India.
