bad bad movie
by KrishnaIsEverywhere on Mar 16, 2009 03:56 PM  | Hide replies

Directional problems:::

1. imaginary Rajputana, totally ripped off
from naxalite movement, even my rajasthani friends dont know anything about Rajputana.
2. first half totally copied from Haasil, second half mostly copied from "hazaaro khwaishen aisi"
3. Bihari accent through out the movie on a rajasthani background.

Storyline problems:::

1. neither aspect of the movie reached any height, revolution, college politics, love everything was in background, not sure what was in focus. begins with revolution, politics in middle and ends with obsessed love.
2. Ransa was the only watchable part but he was killed within 35 minutes.
3. Everyone kept talking fearlessly in front of a gun, Ransa, Kaykay, wo chinaal everybody.
4. why the heck anybody like kay kay will choose a bojo like Dilip for the elections.
5. Dilip's character was annoyingly dumb.
6. I've heard of ragging, but never heard that students nuded a professor and nothing happened.
7. who the heck were those two champus living in KayKay's house, and what was their need or significance.
8. Songs were longer than necessary and irritating.
9. Maahi Gill's role was created just to inject some cheap glamor and it had nothing to do with the story.

One more bone to pick with your argument..You say Maahi's character has nothing to do with the story??? She gets Dukey killed by instigating Dilip. Stop taking beedi breaks when you go see a film, Krishnaelwhere.

3&1/2
by optima on Mar 16, 2009 02:06 PM  | Hide replies

lets get over with the -ves
1. didnt understand the movie! It's confusing at to what the centric theme is, what the message is, what the sub-themes are , infact what rajputana is! An introductory note on the region's culture and politics would be helpful for us non-northies. er a case of over-assuming audience awareness...?

2. Can't understand the dialect- they should provide sub-titles when they use dialects, or any non-regular, non-filmy hindi(like omkara, jodha-akbar). Its damned difficult for us non-hindi speakers
3. Lengthy. Well, length of all indian movies needs slashing. And off-beat movies like these should be concise, pithy for the punch
4. 2 many characters

the ves:

1. All the performances are top-notch. every 1 of them.
2. every character is finely etched
3. nearly all scenes are compelling! the movie suffers from 2-many moments??
4. visuals are gud
5. and finally, the lyrics are goose-pimply good
cheers to Ak, but plz go a lil easy on the audience, and 3 and half *s 2 u

I was going through the posts and believe me I am sorry to say that most of the people didnot understand Gulaal n DEV D... Dev D was not at all vulgar and when u r talking of Woman then DEV D is one the strongest film on women empowerment..The sexual desires in a women is never shown in such a ve way where the female characters are not apolegetic of thier sexual desires n they are mere humans to do so...and talking of abusive languages common in Indian "Hypocrite" society its very common...

Emperor's new clothes
by AG B on Mar 16, 2009 04:51 AM  | Hide replies

AK has become the "emperor in new clothes". Anybody says anything against AK is a poor illiterate guy. If you show freaks, mos tabusive dialogues, mostly submissive women, shocking on-the-face S**ual innuendoes, ultra-violent themes & picturization in the name of gritty reality then you are cool and modern.
Western concepts are good but there is also something called lines of decency which the Hollywood films enforce by tagging their films as PG, R, R etc which nobody enforces in India. Even families watch DevD or Gulaal - no wonder the society is going to the gutters. You dont have to pass messages thru films but dont atleast make indecent things the norm via mainstream cinema. Bollywood also will go the Telugu and Tamil way. Vulgarity is not in what is being shown but the hidden intent behind depiction.
In Hollywood nobody shows that women are there for picking up and obeying men whereas the Desi films show in that way only. People need to grow up!!!

Confused story - Deserved at most 1.5 star only.
by Atul Kumar on Mar 15, 2009 11:53 PM  | Hide replies

Till the end, what the director is trying to tell the viewer was not clear. There are too many inconsistencies in this movie. I was wondering why Prasad's IMAX owners had decided to put this movie with so wonderful lyrics in screen 5, a small one used for off-beat experimental movies. After seeing, I admire theatrical sense of those owners. Those managers should be reviewer and not the arm chair reviewers giving crap ratings here. It is so easy to give good rating or bad for a straight forward story, but teh real test comes when complex stories like these are presented. And the reviewer failed miserably in giving 3 to this movie which leaves multiplex viewers asking for refund. And that refund includes the horribly costing coffee and other eatables. In fact, I demand that anurag kashyap should refund us the petrol cost also as well as our lost time. If he had only released the music album of the songs, it would have been better than trying to show too many plots.

I agree its tight, has wonderful acting, but what is the theme of this movie. Are they just ?trying to encash publicity of anurag kashyap.

Your first two questions indicate that u slept through the movie so I wont bother to explain. As for the last the lady is crying because her brother is named Senapati which inturn means that they have finally been recognised as the Raja's children by the community, the thing which they were fighting for.

Its a great movie. The director clearly undersands what lies beneath.
He shows what the real politics is. This is a realistic movie. All the characters seem real.
great performances.
