What ever shown in Slumdog M. is the real trouth of Mumbai and we can not expect this type of films from our Indian films makers. They wants to make only love story films to earns more and more.Any way it is ashamed for our Police, Political leaders and our system.

That's because Chak-De shows you a non-existent Champion Team from India, and Slumdog shows existent slums!

Harkol Dude, do your research ...fyi, Chak de India is based on the real life story of Indian Hockey Player Negi. Only difference is that in the movie they showed it as WC where as in reality it was Common Wealth Cup.

i am not sure about this guy but I wonder why an NRI staying in US for 27 years would know more about Mumbai than an Indian. In fact,an observation that I have made is people of this category criticize everything Indian when talking to Indians ( from India) probably to justify their decision to move to this country but while talking to others, they will try to be ambassadors of India.Movies like these give them an opportunity to come into limelight.
The movie is good.I dont deny that but it has nothing worth the hype that it has created. It just bombards the audience with all stereotypes about India and Indians which seems to be more appealing to the Indian audience.
Mr.Aseem Chabbra,I have stayed more in this country than you have stayed in US and I definitely know more about Mumbai than you.All that has been shown in the movie is stereotype and hype which shameless people like you and Meera Nair try to capitalize on !! Shame on you !!

Your article is so apt and well writtten.
Let the world take a look at India with all it's realities and understand that India is definitely a power to reckon with with all the structures n companies coming up in a big way.
I am proud that we have a film that can connect with film lovers of all genres.
This is indeed a film that is made from the heart. Kudos to Danny Boyle who thought Mumbai apt as capturing the essence of the film. This film is truely a gift to India.

Movie shows the truth. we should learn somethingh from this.
by manoj kumar on Feb 21, 2009 07:56 AM

Movie like slum dog millnr opens our heart basically. We live in mumbai, yet we are so far from reality. how much kids go through. the amount of pain. would u wonder if they keep causing violance all their life when they grow up. We need to seriously pay attention. and do whatever little we can.
The movie is great. it shows the truth. we should not be ashamed of accepting the truth.

A BIG HYPE And Oscar Just because it is from a British Director
by Rahul Vadera on Feb 21, 2009 07:28 AM

No doubt movie is very good. But I agree with Amitabh thoughts that if same movie was produced by an Indian (even by Shekhar Kapoor). It would not have received a single OSCAR nomination. Also if AR Rehman receives OSCAR for this movie than my view point is he should only give music in English movies as this is the most average music compared to his standards

Wrong Criticism of Amitabh Bacchan as usual...
by QandA QandA on Feb 21, 2009 07:17 AM  | Hide replies

In his blog he was not criticizing Mumbai Slum or the film makers.. What he was saying was if this same Slums were artistically shown by an INDIAN DIRECTOR AND AN INDIAN PRODUCER then it would NOT HAVE got the same recognition as it has now....

Basically Western Media is based on COMPLETE BIAS and superiority complex so much so that they think that they own all aspects of MORALITY like Human Rights/Democracy/Prosperity/Technology. Its as though they do not go wrong.

The basics of Western Media is DON'T SHOW FOREIGN COUNTRY PROGRESS in their coverage..

Americans DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE SECOND LARGEST ECONOMY WHICH IS JAPAN while Japanese knows everything...

Amitabh is born in WRONG TIMES and in a wrong country. He is dreaming of Indians to have their own Oscars but how is it possible when low self esteem Indians can never achieve anything and would always be second class beggars, begging for recognition even though they can send satellites to moon...

Indians had Yoga but Right Wing Hindus will not be allowed to introduce it to the west. It has to be a GORA

Indians have Vedic mathematics but Right wing Hinduism would always be compared to Islamism

Indians have Ayurveda but how can Indian communist, Indian Islamists and of’ course cunning British allow that to be legitimate but at the same time American drug manufacturers will copy their formulas...

To be an Indian especially a Hindu feels like a GOD's mistake and a practical joke...

And Indian media as usual rebuting Indian views as they have no merit and kneeling down to whatever is thrown upon from the masters. Amitabh Bachchan is much much bigger than any Danny Boyle or a Hollywood artist. He loves the country and Hindi Cinema by heart and foster creativity. This guy objected to using so called term "Bollywood", which is truly an insult to the industry as it portrays it as a copycat of west. I second to what Amitabh says. If A R Rahman is such a great musician which he truly is why the recognition now because he is introduced by a White ass. Stop publishing such bullshit opinions as they do no matter. If people in west liked Indian shit so well, what would they do when they see real Indian culture.

Just One question,, What is real Indian culture? Is it the culture of North West India, UP/Bihar, Bengal, Gujju culture , Mumbai culture or south Indian culutre. There are more.. Hindu Culture, Muslim culture Parsi culture.. And if you combine the two (religious and regional) how many different cultures...
Which Indian Culture are you talking about,, and how is it relevant to Slumdog Millionaire?

Reality bytes!
by shiva on Feb 21, 2009 06:19 AM  | Hide replies

To solve a problem, we have to accept there is one. Then work towards a solution once a common ground is reached about the course of action. For us, we never stop dithering, pour scorn on those showing any initiatives.

We tend to accept as given many problems that we face-unable to sort out the issues & priorities. The aftermath of a tragedy like an earth-quake or terror attack unites us, then we are back to square one of mutual mud-slinging.

We have seen it all earlier. Mother Theresa brought world focus on Kolkatta. It became an experience for many in the West to see utter hopelessness of a forgotten people. It took a frail foreigner to go about caring people nobody wanted to have a second look! Yes,yes the dirty linen was washed for all to see. But even our dyed in the wool communists were looking the other way while the bottom of their society breathed their last alone & forgotten! They were not part of the vote- banks & hence dispensable!

Those who feel slighted by this movie should face reality. Yes, many are re-arranging their priorities in the face of altered economic outlook. We, as one, have to hold our govt to account for their promises. Certain basic issues should be beyond petty politics like poverty, terrorism where we should find common ground.

Instead of getting hot under the collars, let us be beholden that we can still solve these issues provided we have a will! Reality strikes many times, more than opportunities!

It is time for action!

Very true indeed. WE particularly the elite seem so ashamed when others pick out our shortcomings...but then when the elite fly into Mumbai after hovering over those slums for sometimes an hour....does anybody give a second thought to it ! I think we like everybody thinking that India is going great guns....but never like anybody showing anything bad....but then that is so typical of us Indians...who never own up to their faults. Perhaps it is time that we look inwards and start solving our internal problems/faults first and then trying to chastise others....as our scriptures do point out time and again.

Aseem is a typical boot-licker who would sell his own mom for few crumbs. And he is miffed why other Indians are not falling head over heels.
