When movies dont win national or regional award, how can they make it to oscar. First let them play well Ranji trophy before they play against the world.
Guys, There is also an award given in US for the worst film on earth. It is like ridiculing OSCAR Awards. eklayva is actualy selected for the worst film ever made on this planet. It was recommended for Worst Film, Worst Actor, Worst Music, Worst Costumes, Worst Direction. Total 5 awards. There are actually more but 1 film is eligible for only 5 Worst Oscar awards.

2 years ago, a Marathi film 'Shwaas' was sent for Oscars, but didn't make it. It was a simple, but emotional film on a 9 yr boy having eye-cancer. The problem was that the producers didn't have enough money to promote it and hardly anyone outside the Marathi community knew about it. Oscars is much more than content of the film, such as marketing, jury's preference for spanish/European films, length, subject, etc. The regional movie makers are totally new to the game and thus lose out even though their films are better at times.
Ekalavya was definitely a bad choice for Oscars, as even the Indian viewers couldn't relate to it.

ONE OF THE WORST FILM "EKALAVYA" WAS SENT TO OSCARS.....WE ONLY GOT TO SEE THAT ,IT ATE THE SHIT...I THOUGHT "CHAK DE" WAS THE UNANIMOUS CHOICE.....ATLEAST NEXT TIME STOP SENDING UNWANTED FILMS

To be sent to Oscars the stroty has to be original not a copy of any film or drama. Chak De was a copy of a english movie so it can't be selected for Oscars.

My friends....The main story line of Lagaan was also a copy of an English film "Up in the air", with basketball as the game. Lagaan was just modified to include the British rule and cricket. Then how come Lagaan went all the way to the top 5...

I guess you meant "The Air Up There" and Lagaan seems to be a copy of it to some extent. However, Lagaan had deep roots of Indian culture with a mix of British raj. Chak De, apart from the realty of the Commonwealth win, had nothing else to show, as that kind of movies have been made umpteen number of times.

I have seen both eklavya and Dharm. Eklavya has nothing special about it. I didn't find it worthy of going to Oscars. Dharm was better, yes it didn't have the star power of Amitabh, Sanjay, Saif & Jackie

how can u say taare for next year without seeing other movies in regional.. there may be better movie than taare..
well ekalavya doesnot deserve even national awards let alone oscar! i guess there were a few good regional movies,which could have been considered! Dharam was also ignored!
Black - miracle worker gajani (tamil) - memento aks - fallen doom 1 and 2 - chou chou bath of hollywod krish - ET??? pehli(oscar nominee) - nagamandal (kannada) swadhesh - chiguridha kanasu agnisakshi - sleeping with enemy yuva - remake of a spanish movie and still matrix film fight sequence all our films (specially in tamil films) manymore??????? what to with the culture here?

My Father The Hero -Mon père, ce héros old boy Dinner For Schmucks-Le Dîner de cons wicker park-L'Appartement the ring the grudge '12 Monkeys'-'La Jetée' and of course the great great .... the departed -infernal affairs & the magnificent seven-the seven samurai ETC ETC many not even worth mentioning!

why most of the people mixing culture and film? what about of film gandhi , isn't it indian culture movie. its all about how u present ur movie. its all with director creativity. so dont mix culture issue to this great art of art media. film is film. only thing is we send always crap moveie, now here most of the people say that oscar is white people award, most of the chinese directors are in the peak of oscar award. and lagan also nominated, but stiff competition from no mans land we had to loose it. OSO is good movie , entertaining but not for oscar. i think our chopra and sons, roshan and sons, johar and sons have to learn what is movie, not only box office hit. and one more thing guys 80% of bollywood films are remake. and some films are so much benefiting u , no need to watch 5 hollywood movie. u can see all in one movie. we will have good time and we are doign good movie. only thing top director in bollywood have to learn alot.

now here is one hollywood a#licker..... saw spiderman-3 ??? the only thing missing was masala songs... everything else was so very indian abt it..... there are bad movies in holywood and good movies in india..... jus dont generalize stuff....
