Take it as a great work of fiction then...
by Shubhen Phanse on Feb 17, 2008 06:48 AM  | Hide replies

If Jodha-akbar is a great masterpiece created by Ashutosh, why not people accept it as a fictional film, as everyone accepted Mughal-e-Azam or Anarkali? So many Hollywood action movies show the US President or British PM, there is never a hue-n-cry over them.

Ashutosh, perhaps adding the std disclaimer that this is a work of fiction etc, would not harm your great work, isn't it? If the primary goal of making this film was art, then such a disclaimer would not hurt your goals? Someone needs to take a rationale stand in this country ruled by emotions and not by decisions. In this case, ball is in your court. Please do this and show to the country, what you are.

You probably miss the point -- there is something called fiction and something called fact. This movie would have been a great work had the names used were "Hritik" and "Ash" (instead of Jodha and Akbar). But the movie may not have attracted so much attention (and money). However, muddling it with history distorts the truth and makes the producer happy.

Jodha Bai Wife or daughter of Akbar
by sharan seetharam on Feb 17, 2008 03:30 AM

Does it really matter to the common people of India if Jodha was Akbar wife. Why do they take the sides of any religion when we talk about a Hindu and a Muslim. What is wrong if Jodha was Akbars wife and what if she is his daughter in law and what if she never existed at all. Why don't they just come and watch the movie and say how the director could have made use of the actors even more better if there are any flaws or compliment them if they have done nicely. Ppl are just feeling bad because Akbar married Josha... Its one of the nice thing to happen if it had happened. People just feel good for them and think of the nice things that they have done.

Jodha-Akbar

After watching Jodha-Akbar, an excellent creation by Gowarikar I cudnt stop myself from writing these comments. This is the best possible depiction of multicultural society in 16th centuray. Interestingly, and it must be a reflection of Ashutosh's intellegence that he has handled such a sensitive issue in such a beutiful manner. There is no insult to any particular community or relegion and the whole movie is fantastic with constructive educational concepts and beautiful love story . I dont know the overall fate of this movie but it shud be at least get nominated for national integration award. It doesnt matter 'what was the name' and 'who married whom' -the take home massage is we had such a beautiful multirelegion harmony even ages ago and we shud rather congratulate Ashutosh for his hard work.I feel so sorry for some people who may not be able to watch it. For them I remember a dialogue from the film: Heaven lies in the heart where luv is and hell lies where hatred is. I am glad we hav always been and still dominating in 'heaveness'.

More confused

Whatever Syed Firdaus has written sounds more confusing. Small tid-bits of information compiled from everywhere/wherever, and presented. At least I read in my history ooks that Jodha-Akbar marriage was an alliance of strategic reasons, and ala Mirabai, JodhaBai was allowed to practice her own religion. Unless that history being taught was a lift from the movie.

And Rani Padmini Devi is actually a princess from CoochBehar/Bengal.

What sort of history are we taught? it is taught in primary and secondary schools that Akbar was great as he respected religions other than Islam and married Jodha, sister of Raja Man Singh as a political game and to create an impression that he was messaiah of hindu-muslim unity. Now, there r different versions. Can we just not find the exactly right thing which happened just few hundred years back ?

I agree.. If Narendra Modi was to become an all powerful ruler of India (like Akbar), then people will also call him the epitome of secularism (see he offered protection to Talisma).

Sure Narendra Modi will not mind marrying a dozen of muslim women (one from Pak, one from Bangladesh, one from Saudi Arabia ...), and letting them practice Namaz in his courtyard (in addition to singing songs!), if that enables him to become the king of all these countries... I am sure he won't mind marrying even Hillary Clinton if that gives him control of the US... and, of course, our future generations and movie makers will portray him as a great secular leader too !!

Dear all,
Why people were quite when in MUGHAL-E-AZAM , Jodha's character was added and was shown as Emporer's Wife [Played by DURGA KHOTEji].
Recently the same movie was technically upgraded and was re-released in COLOUR, even then these people who are against JODHA AKBAR were keeping quite?
