To all those who are writing against Punjabis for supporting Ishmeet and all those who are crying aloud about regionalism and religionism:- The last guy to win b'cos of his religion and region was Aneek Dhar of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Everybody knows he won cos he was a hindu. Amanant and Raja Hassan were more talented but didn't win cos they were muslims and Amanat was a Pakistani. So don't start crying now that a minority has won. These kind of shows are based on voting by the PUBLIC so get over it.

I don't agree. Aneek was as good as Raja or Amanat and any one of the three deserved to win. In this case (VOI), there was no competition. Harshit, Abhas and Toshi were the best three - this is not what I am saying but what the judges had also said consistently. Ismeet was not in that class. But then as you said, it's PUBLIC voting. At least Ishmeet was not as bad as the last 2 Indian Idols (Prashant Tamang and i forget the other name).
I happened to see a bit of the final yesterday and felt disgusted. Instead of promoting unity the program openly encourages division between states and religion. Slogans like %u201CJo Bole So Nihaar%u201D and %u201CHar Har Mahadev%u201D and quotes like %u201Cone UP is enough for ten Punjab%u2019s%u201D being aired on TV and being used by the program to increase their viewer ship is appalling and shameful. The voting was being encouraged on lines of religion and not on talent. Also, I fail to understand how Ishmeet can be Voice of India if Harshit won in three out of the four regions. North is one part of India and not India itself. I wonder if the Information and Broadcasting Ministry is taking any notice of this and planning to take any action. We need more movies and programs like Chak De that beautifully package and deliver the message of Country first and encourage unity in diversity. And programs like Voice of India should be definitely banned.

Thanks for saying that. It has become so boring - the only thing i see when surfing channels is some people on stage and a group of judges beside it! and yes, as you said, it openly creates division between states.
I do not see VOI, have never seen a single TV broadcast except for some Youtube and one DVD edition. Anyway, Prashanth also won Indian Idol in same SMS premise. It is a business guru and SMS (started by the Brits way back) in realty show are money jerkers. Who cares what anyone does as long the channel is making their money!! Good talent will come up anyway, Kunal, Sunidhi all had talent so they prospered in long run. Let us end this discussion and save that Rs.6 for some road-side food :-)

100% agree with you Sunil. I had Star Voice, Sa re ga ma, Indian Idol... But after watching few episodes of SMS voting and bunch of joker Judges I disconnected them all. Wish people spent that SMS money to some needy people of India.

instead of spending money on SMSs'it would be better if they spend the same money on some chrarity. previously when the winners were decided by the judges we got good singers. viz sunidhi, shreya ghoshal , kunal. ever since SMS voting has started we are not getting good singers. Does anybody know where Sandeep Acharya (Indian Idol 2) is ??

and the worst part is every judge in every show slams SMS viting but still it continues. The biggest hyposrit was Gajendra who came up on stage when Toshi was ousted, shed some crocodile tears and said that he felt ashamed that he had started this voting process some time back. If they really cared for talent, they would have at least put a limit of 1 SMS per phone number per week.
I wonder why Indians carry lots of hatred towards SIKHS.Whether it is singing ,bollywood or Cricket they are anti Punjabi's.Folks we punjabi's specially Sikhs turn the corners from hard work and last thing Sikhs need pity form anyone.Almighty the great has given us enough and source of our power is our Guru.Tell me you would rather get noticed more in abroad when you say I'm PUNJABI than any other language.I'm clean shaven and still proud SIKH and will be rest of my life.Majority of you guys go to Gurudawara and eat lunger and some times seek shelter but right after spread anti Sikh word.My dear Hindu brothers you owe us more than we owe you guys ,read the history and your all doubts will be cleared.Hindu's chant they are peace lovers when it comes to other religions they go frantic. Ishmeet doesn't deserve to be the slippers of Aabhas, Irfan, Toshi, Abhilasha, Priyani, Mirande and Ashpreet's feet. Becoz when they sing audience get mesmerized. He is a product of SMS, booth capturing and threat msgs that the judges of VOI were given. Many in this discusion board are saying that that bias comments agaisnt Punjab is written and singers like Sonu Nigaam, Sukhwinder Singh are Punjabis. Come on! stop this crap Sonu and Sukhwinder are talented and versaltile singers and may be they are from Punjab but they never revoke Punjabi statements to gain mileage. Ishmeet is not one-fourth of their talent and also no way equal to the other above VOI participants. It was an insult of a talented singer like Harshit to compete with Ishmeet. And in a way I feel good that Harshit did not win as he wouldn't have rejoiced his win with Ishmeet as he would have if Aabhas or Irfan were his competitors. Let Ishmeet rejoice his SMS victory becoz in the long run the real talent will only survive and he will be confined to the territories of Punjab or else Canada (becoz Canada is the place with massive Punjabi population, who would restore to any cheap tactics like beg, borrow or steal to reach there).

I am a Punjabi & a Sikh, though until now, I have been introducing myself as the one, whose both parents are Punjabis & sikhs, but a BIG THANK YOU, Ms. Moumita, that I am feeling really PROUD of my lineage. Personally, I also felt that Ishmeet was a week contestant and yeah, of-course he won because of SMS war (yeah, why you people forget its not just a talent show but its also about the power, you can weild to get votes), & he won that war. Where were you when these so called judges were saying all the bad things in front of all the people. Where was your so un-biased mind (did it leave you then because you were not using it & suddenly, you coerced it to be back because you, suddenly, got up from a slumber and wanted to raise your voice against regionalism). What to do this trend of SMS's are so bad and faulty that the real talent leaves and the not so good ones like Ishmeet wins the crown. Aabhas, Irfan, Toshi, Priyani, Abhilasha and Ashpreet are mind blowing singers and Ishmeet is not even fit to be the slippers of their feet. I absolutely agree with u that Irfan and Toshi are excellent singers though I find Irfan a better singer than Toshi. And u also forgot to mention Aabhas as he is a genius at this young age. Though I beg to differ regarding Harshit with you as I think he is a good singer and Ishmeet as his competitor was an insult to his talent. If he was copeting with Irfan or Aabhas the competition would have been mind-blowing.

I disagree! Irfan is good but not in the same class as Toshi, Abhas and Harshit. He does not have classical base. He has been trying for years in different music competitions but has not succeeded. He tried Saregama Challenge 2005, Ek main aur ek tu, then VOI. He is good but not champion material. Awaaz mein sur hai lekin power nahi hai. Remember that song from Karz - Isha Koppikar (who I feel commented very sensibly as a music lover representin the common people) said "I don't know what it is but I found something missing." And then Abhijit sang and said that it was the punch in the voice.
