Well before putting in such review , the writer should have listened to the music properly. When I listened to it , I liked it in first chance itself without having to listen it again and again. And whether singer is same or different , you judge a song by its own existence not with respect to the previous or next song.
This review is the most useless piece of trash I have read in rediff. Did any of the editors from rediff even listen to the music of Cheeni Kum, before they published this review. OK maybe you think I am jsut one of the illayaraaja fanatics to say this. So Judge for yourself. http://cheenikum.com/ is the official website for the movie. They have samplers of the music in that website. Listen to them and make up your own damn mind..... And if you think that the music is Brilliant, then do not let this idiot review anymore music again...

To listen full songs: http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/hindi_bollywood/m/director.2106/
Music of Cheeni Kum is lacklustre. Initially when I read the title I thought it was some weird Southie name, itz not even a hindi word. None of the songs make an impact. The songs are plain boring. 'The Train' on the other hand has awesome music. It rocks.

Bad Review: But a Fantastic topic to discuss...:-)
Guys, yeah the review is quite funny. Even the worst of Illayaraja would be much better than the mediocre music we get to hear in most bollywood movies thesedays. Illayaraja(affectionately called 'The Maestro', by music lovers) has been in the film industry for the past 30 years and has composed music for more than 800 films in all South Indian languages and in Hindi too.
Apart from composing hundreds of soothing melodies, fast numbers, western songs, he is also famous for his background scores. There are some amazing background scores in his movies, which I would like to highlight here. Those who havent heard these yet, please get urselves a dvd and relish!!
1. Nayakan (every scene is accompanied by a terrific background score. Raja's 400th film. One of World's 100 best films, as per Time Magazine)
2. Rajaparvai (This is a Story of a Blind Man, played by Kamal Hassan. Listen to the Theme music. U'll get the feel, for sure!!!)
3. Mouna Ragam (Mani Rathnam-Raja combo. Two different background scores for the two protagonists Mohan and Karthik - Raja at his best)
4. Agni Natchathram (Terrific Mani Rathnam-Raja combo. Every song is a classic. Listen to the bit when Karthik and Prabhu clash against each other)
5. Sindhu Bhairavi(excellent Karnatic music. Raja-K.J Yesudas combo mesmerised the audience in mid-80's)
6. Punnagai Mannan(First Indian Movie to use Computer-generated music...and this was in 1987!!)
7. Johny(all songs are classics!! This movie does not have many dialogues. And that is compensated by Illayaraja's music.)
8. Aboorva Sagotharargal - Much has been said about this money spinner. But the thing I would like to highlight here is..have u guys listened to the music that get played during the titles? Esp when the mother is sent across the river after her husband is killed...amaazzing! The dwarf undergoes two phases. In the first half of the movie, he is a funny romantic guy. In the 2nd half he becomes a serial killer. Notice the music before and after this transformation.

sorry Nanba. Mudhal Mariyadhai..aha..what a comeback for Nadigar Thilagam. Raja would have loved playing music for this movie. Who can forget the 'Ku..Kooo' whenever Sivaji meets Radha. And the silence in the last scene when she steps down from the bus...Awesome man!
If you need to write about his work, listen to his two great non film albums " How to name it" and "Nothing But Wind" and then you can comment. He is not one of so called Bollywood composers.
