who is this Sonia Chopra to redicule Maestro? This review was unnecessary and unwanted..REDIFF please take this review back.
Sonia is either deaf or dumb/numb...does she know that those tunes in cheenikum are proven gems in south which made Raja a maestro.
May be she got used to loud hindi music which is being churned out these days...may be she missing a KJo type punjabi number..may be she is itching for a nasal crooning of Trashemmiyaa????
The reviewer says that "Beautifully sung, this song is worth its alternate version just for the freshness of the voice" referring the Cheeni Kum song. In the next line she says "Of the other five, two songs have been repeated with minor variations. So you can imagine how repetitive this album sounds". This is not right as only one song has been repeated in the remaining five i.e.Battein.
So even as per her argument she justifies repetition of one song and only one more song is not justified. Thus there is point in her saying "So you can imagine how repetitive this album sounds". More thought needed before commenting

"Thus there is point in her saying" stands corrected to "Thus there is NO point in her saying"
Actually Illaiyaraja wanted to compose fresh songs for this movie but the director wanted to use his old classics in new format. thats why the old tunes. however, the maestro has done a great job in recreating them with new sound..hats off to him

"Jaane Do Na" has the same tune as the song from the Kannada movie "Pallavi Anu Pallavi" which was the first movie directed by Mani Ratnam, first movie Illayaraja composed music and Anil Kapoor who launched his film career.

what a waste of my precious money, this album is the pitts, excepting for cheeni kum song, i am a big fan of ilaaya raaja as im south indian, he is the guru of ar rehman also, but in this album he is repeating his tamil songs, thinking no one here will able to notice
According to Sonia's logic, albums like Khayyam's Umrao Jaan (which had all songs sung by Asha Bhosle), dozens of superhit albums (where Lata has been the lead singer), or Breathless by Shankar Mahadevan are all BAD and REPETITIVE! Wow! Hats off to you Sonia. What's your IQ by the way? And what qualifies you as a music reviewer?
I honestly belive this album Cheeni Kum has mind-blowing compositions by Ilaya raja, with extremely well-orchestrated melodies, rendered with gusto by the lead singers Shreya Ghoshal and Vijay Prakash. The instrumental themes, including the Saxaphone were very catchy and at the same time musically quite complex in structure, evoking a bouquet of emotions. Oh! and the jazz interludes were to die for. I was in fact disappointed that the album had only 7 tracks! The lyrics may not be great, but are much better than what's being dished out these days.
I really question the credentials of the so-called music reviewers in Rediff.

Kannada "GEETHA" was released on 1980.The same song(Viliyilea) present in Tamil "Nuravathu nall" released on 1984.
I am forced to post this message. Please read the comments made in www.planetbollywood.com
---------------- The soundtrack of Cheeni Kum is exciting with the prolific sounds of Ilaiyaraaja and contains no sample voices and no remixes, which makes it one of the best light composed soundtracks of this year so far. ----------------
Cheeni Kum - A sweet melody ,But a bitter review by rediff . The Maestro 's master pieces are remixed with an excellent orchestration. A new dimension to bollywood listneners who have been listening to the same rythms. A fine blend of carnatic rythms with a jazz. If u r critics abt that same voice has been used then wht abt lata ji or asha ji s voices being used for the whole of the album. I bet even the BGM s for the film would be a great plus for this movie. Illayaraja has given a break for great directors like ram gopal verma and mani ratnam . There would nt be a RGV or Maniratnam today without his music or without his BGM for their films!!!

Well set. Before review any thing you must analyse yourself. North India media knows about ARR only. They doesn't know about Ilayaraja. They should know Ilayaraja makes big directors like Manirathinam RamGopal Varma with his music. But ARR works with big directors

excellent reply to slienc this idiot sonia........she must be a kid has no sense about the music. To write an article/review about a music the person should have some knowledge aboout the same. She has an empty head which can generate only noise.
She has got the mind to appreciate the work of Mixing Engineer Tanay Gajjar but not the main stuff.

Sonia, Read the follwing comments made by www.indiafm.com ---------------- Sound of piano is heard in 'Theme Melody' as Ilaiyaraaja shows his mastery as a master musician with a strong hold on various sounds of the world. A musical piece boasting of numerous instruments coming together is created that is an extremely pleasant hear and turns out to be quite comfortable on ears.
If one wishes to relax after a heavy day in isolation, 'Theme Melody' is the piece to be played as it succeeds in creating a peaceful environment. On the other hand 'Melody [Saxophone]', which turns out to be the last piece of the album, has a naughty appeal to it and is more playful and lively since it moves at a decent pace and ensures some racy happenings on the screen when it is played. ------------------

Sonia, Sonia,
Read the comments made in www.planetbollywood.com -------------------- The soundtrack of %u2018Cheeni Kum%u2019 lands at a time where the remixing wave is full on in the music industry.
Ilaiyaraaja comes in the Bollywood music scene in this second quarter of 2007 with a score that relies on the simplicity of tunes and powerful orchestration. Maestro Ilaiyaraaja demonstrates once again his versatility and his excellent commands over the arrangements, resulting in some extremely catchy melodies and ear pleasing stanzas.
Intoxicating and addictive to the core, the title track, Cheeni Kum blends the refreshing vocals of Shreya Ghoshal with the fast changing music of Ilaiyaraaja. Packed with a racy tempo and an amazing orchestration, Shreya Ghoshal impresses with the rendition of this light composed number. Her vocals take the forefront as she pronounces %u2018Cheeni Kum%u2019 in the cutest way possible. The composer doesn%u2019t neglect a single aspect of his music and scores in all departments. The high pitched %u2018antara%u2019 provides the track with the needed twist. The continuously flowing music adds more funk while the interludes display an array of instruments all played amazing well, like the saxophone. A completely irresistible title track! ---------------------
