in the review it is mentioned Annadurai formed DMK because he disagreed with 2nd marriage but isnt Karunanidhi too a polygamist. Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

It is dravidian political parties culture to marry more than one. Dravidian Political parties leaders followed the way of periyar by marrying more than one wife. MGR and Karunanidhi too followed the same by marrying 3 wives each. One question to fellow rediffians, my friend told if a government official has more than one wife then he will be terminated from his service, in that case karunanidhi too has 2 wives they why not he should be removed from his post??

The Grear Periyar
by Natures on May 03, 2007 11:37 AM

It is a mark of civilised man that he seeks to understand his traditions, and to criticise them, not to swallow them whole. (M. I. Finley)

Eventhough i am not true admirarer of The Great Periyar, he has created Long Lasting Footprints in the annals of Tamilagam.

Without him and his successors TamilNadu would have lost its Uniqueness,History, Social Fabrics, and the Classical Tamil. Congress(Rajaji) idiots would have done great damage to Tamil Language by imposing Hindi.

Today because of Periayar and Annadurai(DMK), Tamil thrives ; TamilNadu Propers.

Ofcourse he has done great damage to Brahmins, but again if you see the otherside of the story it has created wealth and properity among the Tamil diapora.

So thats the reason why Tamil film industry can spend Crores and Compete with Bollywood, even exceeds in quality, contents and reach.

Long Live Tamil.

I know there will be noises among here, who cares if the Dog Barks AT The SUN(Great Saying From Tamil).

TN
by Crazy Human on May 03, 2007 11:24 AM  | Hide replies

People say it is developed compared to UP and Bihar, but is it fair to compare to UP and Bihar as they are also ruled by OBCs. Is TN a heaven today? what is the GDP of TN alone, what is the standard of living there ? Is corruption non-existent in TN ? Is'nt TN infamous for female foeticides. Is'nt TN infamous for caste clashes even now ? And did not Dravidian parties come close to officially supporting LTTE ? I wonder what would have happened in that case, TN would have become another PoK. I guess Jayalalitha pulled them away from LTTE, so I have to admit Jayalalitha is the lesser evil of two

You have no idea of History. Browse the Wikipedia you will get know about the Mighty Chola kingdom. The entire south India was controlled and ruled by Tamil Kindom including Ceylon.

This created migration of people. SO do you the Emblical cord connecting people in south India.

So as adage goes The BLOOD is Thicker than Water(Hope you know the meaning)

broaden your mind, and dont look at everything from Tamil perspective. Also realize west is ahead of us in everything. You pick up a paper today and you will find so many people die everyday for flimsy reasons, do you think that happens in a great country with great people.

Dude, I am not trying to highlight anything remotely which is not in existence. I am trying to rationlise your rusted mind, which always demean Periayar and Other Tamil People.

You should understand the histroical facts or refrain from rediculing Tamils and LTTE.

You are not asked to fight for anyone. You just shut up holy addressless.

come on if given the chance or opportunity you would go and settle in US right ? Because in the long run you know that your children will be better off in a good western country than India. In India your life is pretty much worthless unless you are very very rich

Periyar's reforms has done little for the downtrodden people but very big way helped the other forward castes. He encouraged and spread all over Tamillnadu the hatred towards Brahmins,
Hinduism and Hindu Gods. Being a person from a downtrodden Community and a Good Hindu I cannot Salut Mr.Ramaswamy Naiker.

I beg to defer....I belong to the Nadar community and I have seen a sea change...there was a time when we were not allowed entry into temples, the women would not be allowed to cover their breast, you could not own land, you could not read the scriptures...look at the same community today, they are highly educated, there is equal opportunity...there will always be some exception to the rule but overall and backed by statistical figures you will be happy to know that there is a HUGE change...yes, there is more, which needs to be done...but let us not disrespect one of the key players in this change...Periyar did not hate Hindus, Hinduism or Brahmins....He hated the caste system which believed and followed discrimination, he hated brahminism not brahmins and he it so happens that he did not believe in God(that is his personal choice)

Rifa(r)t,
There is no casteism or untouchability in TN?
C'mon. There is still the practice of two tumbler system in teashops!Dalit panchayt presidents are not allowed to function.Dalits continue to suffer at the hands of OBCs and not brahmins. It is only the self serving politicians who have benefitted from periyar. He is not a patch on Ambedkar! Periayar's only contribution is hatred foro Brahmins and Gods.
True barbarian.

if you read my piece carefully, you will notice the words ALMOST COMPLETE...castesism is so deeply entrenched in India that it will take years to undo what has been done for centuries...oppression has many faces, it can be through racism, gender inequality, the rich against the poor, the OBC against the Dalits...Politicians always remember will be POLITICIANS (across the globe), they are in politics to cater to their personal agenda and and they will use anyone and anything for it, while social reformers work with their conscience they are there for change and that too positive change for society at large....without laws in favour of his beliefs Periyar could not really have brought about the changes that he did....."Periyar not being a patch on Ambedkar" now that would be a good subjet for some analysis....Periyar was against Brahminism NOT against Brahmins, if you do a little research, I'm sure you will be proved wrong there....Atheism is a personal choice, Periyar didnot hate God, he didnot believe in the presence of God.....and finally my name is spelt Rifat not Rifa(r)t....I'm sure you made a mistake there Shashikala
