if u r saying heroines r waste in bollywood, then i.e incorrect.whether its a bollywood, hollywoodr tollywood.A female character is always needed.if u think only with help of heros without heroines you can make a industry's name tht's impossible.as in this world woman give's support to man,the same is the process in industry.
if a film isnot good may b b'coz of heroine's it bcomes a hit.as i known not every flim becomes hit of heros.so heroines like kajol in fanna, rani in black which became hit b'coz them.

Heroine has borrede us
by bharat bhushan on Jan 03, 2007 01:00 PM  | Hide replies

I just want to say that it is not the bollywood which has borred with the heroine but it is the ordience which has borred with heroines

originally beauty is not there

The respect which the old heroiens like Madhubala,Nargis etc have enjoyed has not been enjoyed by these new beuties

Reason is All these new Heroines has not the quality which old has

Neverthless the say If new is silver than old is gold

as far as my opinion is concerned it is not the bollywood who has borred but it is the ordience which has rejected all these beauties

Brds,
Bhrarat Bhushan

Heroine oriented died with fading age of Rekha
by Ragz on Jan 03, 2007 12:07 PM

Rekha was the main lead of Heroine oriented movies. After that, none of the heroines look so responsible to carry the whole film on their shoulder.

did you forget about gangster, fanaa, woh lamhe, umrao jaan, and I think there's no harm in adding omakara to the list.

Why bother !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
by Satrajit Mukherjee on Jan 03, 2007 03:13 AM

Lets not even care about the film industry which runs on corruption. I sometimes wonder which idiot came up with the name "BOLLYWOOD". This industry is not even worth the spits of HOLLYWOOD. As for women with pivotal roles, when did our "DIRECTORS" even care about women !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. NEVER. This industry like us is hell bent on one thing : -"COPY AND PASTE". And the only thing we and this industry can copy are the bad half of western culture. So screw 'em

when have commercial hindi films treated most if not all of their actresses any differenct from being eye candy? Aren't the females always the decorative feathers to a preening peacock? Is this really a surprise????

Thats true. The DOR was defintiely the best of the lots..the problem is most of the women oriented movies are "experimentation" and low budget movies. I dont think people want to see the current women stars (read "bodies") like priyankas, kareenas etc acting..they just are their for posters and songs!! But there are some like Kajol , Aayesha who people come to watch beyond there skins!

Disagree - to an extent
by Ali on Jan 02, 2007 11:16 PM

The role of the heroine is evolving, I would say. Of course, actresses play a lot of eye candy in many films, but even besides Kareena in Omkara, there were plenty of roles in 2006 and more that showcases their opportune acting skills. For example:

- Ayesha Takia & Gul Panag in Dor
- Kangana in Gangster & Woh Lamhe
- Konkona Sen Sharma in 15 Park Avenue
- Sushmita Sen in Chingaari & Zindaggi Rocks
- Urmila Matondhkar & Juhi Chawla in Bas Ek Pal
- Bipasha Basu in Corporate

Naturally though, a lot of the "popular" movies did not have female oriented roles - like Rani Mukherji in KANK or Priyanka Chopra in Krrish - and sadly enough these are the actresses that will be nominated for awards.

However, the bottom line is that there is no shortage of talented roles for actresses in hindi cinema. You just have to look for them. Perhaps in time, more roles and actresses like these will arise and become more prevalent.

Aren't you forgetting Dor?
by Amit Rao on Jan 02, 2007 09:36 PM  | Hide replies

Dor did very well, at least on the multiplex circuit, and had not one but two author-backed roles with superlative performances from both Ayesha Takia and Gul Panag!

Is Bollywood bored of heroines?
by skjadhav on Jan 02, 2007 09:01 PM

Indeed yes.
THis is the Zamana of action movies and the Digital technology where acting plays a very insignificant role.Nowadys public is fed up of routine Rona-Dhona of heroines. Most of the movies are copied from action oriented Hollywood films where heroines are used as pepper and salt for some visual relief.(Take any James Bond movie for instance).
So naturally heroines will have appearance here and there in bearest of bear minimum clothes (Thanks to Censor Board).

Heroin oriented film
by Brian on Jan 02, 2007 08:43 PM

It is unfortunate that Female lead oriented films are rare in Bollywood these days.It is not true that
there are no Star in female section who can not acrry
any good subject by her own performance merit.WE can easily site two ladies in KAJOL AND RANI who has that
extra merit to present demanding performance under good director.Ubfortunately at present looks and mass
hysteria are gainging ground now a days rather then
understanding good acting.MISS RAI might carry good
audience in function and along with her personal and
private affair but she is no where in acting as com-
pared with KAJOL or RANI Mukherjee.Sabnaji is an example to prove the merit of acting above personal
look or rivate affairs.Another star who is rare in
film is Dimpleji. Some of the performances are just
excellent.Give right script based on good story and
select perfect star you will find outstanding per-formances.Remember every star can not be BIG B.He is
a collosal in Internationa film industry.
