1. Lata Mangeshkar (Voice clarity, classical depth, Voice pitch and versatility)
2. Kishore Kumar (Versatility, Voice clarity)
3. Mohd. Rafi (Classical depth, Voice clarity, Pitch)
4. Sehgal (Classical depth)
5. Asha Bhosle (Verstality, voice clarity)

Across India: SP. Balasubramanium (Best top 10 singers of India all time.

Current lot
1. Udit Narayan
2. Sonu Nigam
3. Kavita Krishnamurthy
4. Alka Yagnik/ Sukwinder
4. Kailask Kher
5. Shreya Ghosal

However even today lata and asha voice are unmatched. Give them any songs its too hard to believe that 70 year olds are singing.

The early singers were great not cause they belonged to an era but the fact that they were trained in classical music, had immense voice clarity, understanding & knowledge of music. And could sing any song under any given conditions.

Despite we having some good singers today - its the yester year songs which we remember more (mayb nt the whole song). However songs are not just about the singers but the music director and the lyrics - the complete package.

Perhaps the older generation had more innocence and honesty which is why their compositions were more beautiful and masterpieces.

Kumar Sanu doesnt even come in the league of today. Awards doesnt mean a singer/actor is good. Its more to do with popularity.

Are you deaf? Have you heard Lata & Asha`s Voices In the 60`s & 70`s? Compare that with their voices now. They sound Horrible! But idiots who have no musical ears equate their fame with their current ability & wont let them retire in peace.
There are brilliant singers around today.Udit,Sonu,Shreya,Kailash, etc are excellent. Abhijeet is excellent, though he hasnt received his due.

Kumar Sanu
by Pradipta Sengupta on Aug 18, 2007 06:13 PM  | Hide replies

Kumar Sanu literally dominated the 90's with his melodious voice and with lots of emotional impacts in his songs. He is the only singer in Indian film musical fraternity who had won the Filmfare Award as best male playback singer 5 times in a row. No other singer has this record.

1990 for Aashiqui
1991 for Saajan
1992 for Deewana
1993 for Baazigar
1994 for 1942 A Love Story

This is enough to prove his capability. There is no singer in the present era who can come even near to this record.

there were many accusations made on him that he is buying filmfare awards (which is not surprising)and because of this he said that he wont accept filmfare again

getting award for songs like Payalia ho ho indicates the poor state of filmfare and raise questions on the unbias judgement

sanu is a better singer if not in the league of legends, rafi, kishore, but he is definetely a better singer. films like ashiqui, saajan, phir teri kahani.. and many more. I dont know what happened to him. After nadeem shravan, no one is able to utlize his talent, he has given 100's of hits. I am still a fan.

Emraan Hashmi - A useless actor
by shankar on Aug 18, 2007 05:50 PM

Why media always hype about ugly looking useless Imraan Hashmi. The Murder become popular because of Sexy Look of Mallika Sherawat & other films also just because of some sexy scenes. Emraan Hashmi is not at all even a average actor also. Neither he is a ordinary actor nor having good looking personality. Hence, requesting medias, please don't hype the things just becasue of some bribed money or to satisfy perticular group of people.

Ego & Attitude Problem
by Sohan Kumar Jha on Aug 18, 2007 04:47 PM  | Hide replies

He has Ego & attitude problem since very begning of his career. some time back he said that he is uncopmparable bcz u can't compare mukesh, rafi, Kishore & Lata, by that way he was installing himself in that league.

I think Udit Narayan alongwith Sonu Nigam is the best singer in this era.

I hope that reader will agree with me.

Thanks

to me - mohd rafi, kishore kumar, mukesh, sp, yeshudas, manna de, hemanta, lata and asha belongs to a different era and level.

We will be doing justice if we even try to compare them with each other or compare the current group with them.

Among the current singers in the hindi film industry (i dare say that) - udit narayan, sonu nigam, shreya and alka yaknik definitely score over others in terms of talent and popularity.

There will always be a sunidhi (a asha clone) or a babul (a kishore clone). Some singers like shaan will give a hit once in a year or so - but at least for the next 5 years the four mentioned above will more or less rule the country - unless there is a another meteriotic rise of someone like shreya.

I hope the followings are deleted from the list (for hindi film songs):

2)K.J.YESUDAS
4)S.P.BALASUBRAMONIUM

Down south may be above are very respected singers but when it comes to hindi songs, they are nowhere in league with Md.Rafi and Kishore Kumar.
