Grow up vivek.....zinda is "copied".i hate using that overused, trashed word but it is. whether bad or good ...if a copy in bollywood it needs to be condemned and ignored...thats the only way to go about it...but pity
While in itself Raja sen is right about zinda being a copy I wonder why he chose to target this particular movie. Why haven't we heard a peep out of him and other rediff reviewers on how Yash Raj group is churning out movie after movie which are copies of Hollywood movies - case in point Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste, Neil & Nikki etc etc. As an Indian viewer I have become accustomed to copies ( The only orignal guys in Hindi movies these days seem to be Ram Gopal Verma and Mahesh Bhatt) ALL I ASK is that the copies are well produced and well directed . Honestly even that is becoming a rare instance these days. People have forgotten how to tell a story. So if a film does it well and absorbs your interest , what the heck. Even the all time favourites like Don and Sholay are being remade and I'm sure Mr. Raja Sen will not refuse to watch them . want to bet ?
I agree with the contention that originality is important while making a movie.
It's nothing wrong to create your own version of a hit movie... it has been happening since time immemorialalbiet the director does add his own individual mark to the project but when you take someone else's efforts and brandish it as your own indeed it's like a rape of the other guys hard work.
Sanjay Gupta is unfortunately one of those who believes that stealing is creating cinema and that production values make a movie into a classic... In that respect he's very much a directorial replica of the greatest pliagarist of all times, Anu Malik and although these people are among the worst of the scum in our industry sadly people do flock to see their movies or buy their songs.
No doubt he will not be recognized even as a Class Z- director after he's dead and gone with.
oh my god, this rockx man!for the first time i actually think Raja Sen has written an excellent piece!Honestly,i wudnt exactly h8 Sanjay Gupta as much as Raja Sen does but he does have a point there.Good Work! you deserve a round of applause.
Better see Zinda...it might change your opinion I also didnt like the other movies which u mentioned in your article but this one is good....though might be copied or whatever buy Sanjay Dutt is brilliant and the first half is great...overall a good film...but not for the types whi like typical masala movies....this is more classy
You are damn right, I can understand inspired by a story, but under the same tag a blatant copy aka remake ammounts to an insult to the original creator and if it is any poor than the original it makes the unsuspecting viewer belive that the original might've been almost as bad.
Raja, thanks to your crappy review, I got up to go watch the movie immediately after reading your review. It turned out exactly as expected. The movie was gripping and brilliant, so what if it was a lift off. I keep waiting for your crappy reviews to help mego and do exactly the opposite.
