I would definitely watch Zinda
by Malkamal on Jan 23, 2006 12:45 PM

I do not agree with Mr. Author. Majority of Indian population don't even know what movies are made in different Indian language, I would not expect that movie-goer to know which movies are "good" in Korean cinema.
I would also not agree with the concept of dubbing a Korean movie in Indian language, as this does not really work...
I thank Mr. Sanjay Gupta for making this movie, as it is a nice movie and I enjoyed seeing it. As an author, you have helped spreading awareness that original Korean movie deserves the due respect, for which I would thank you. However, I would never recommend to anyone to not to watch this movie.

Ahhhhhh

I think one thing should be changed about this letter, rather than directing it to just Sanjay Gupta - its should be directed to all those are part of bollywood- directors, writers, actors, etc. I think someone mentioned earlier about piracy - everyone makes these big statements about anti-piracy - I wanna see a commercial where an Actor (srk, salman, AB, etc) come out and say they won't work in a movie that is BEING STOLEN SCENE FOR SCENE from any other movie, without proper copyright permission! I mean ... its the least they could do..they do make crores off this crap!

have some ethics
by crapbag on Jan 23, 2006 08:38 AM

I do agree with some of the guys ...there is nothing wrong in copying a foreign movie and presenting it to an audience who dont get a chance to see Korean or Spanish films....but copying movies should also be ethical ...atleast you should give credit to the original film maker and not say \"Written and directed by - Sanjay Gupta\" .... When priyadarshan made Thevar Magan in Hindi as Virasat ..he said \"written by Kamal Hassan\" and not priyadarshan.. that is professionalism for me...

Vijay Parmar
Thanks Raja Sen
by Vijay Parmar on Jan 23, 2006 06:01 AM

Hi Raja,

I agree with you completely.
As we are growing as a global film industry we need to be more responsible in portraying our image.
That being said the least an artist can do is acknowledge the source of his/her inspiration.
This is not only fair to the artist being copied from but also to the people who buy the art.

Carry on the good work.As you rightly pointed out, you are not alone.

Thanks,
Vijay

Zinda! exact copy but still rocks....doesnt it?
by Rachit on Jan 23, 2006 03:46 AM

Hey Mr. Sen,

Zinda is an exact copy..lacking originality to the core....but it still rocks...u wanna know y?...because it intends to spread the same message as oldboy...or for that matter any tarentino movie...not many people in India dont even know about oldboy...so what better than making a carbon copy in the native language....cummon both you and me know that the whole 'sanjay gupta presents' thing wont work because nobody would go and watch a dubbed korean movie in theatres....i think sanjay gupta holds the key to change to changing the course of indian cinema and bringing it to new heights....i mean do you call movies like garam masala or no entry (which were supposedly hits) original cinema...i would rather watch bollywood copies of hollywood movies than watching the original bollywood movies which have nothing to offer except for same old comedies and tragedies where you always know the end even before the movie starts. So I suggest you try to watch the movie from my point of view and you might like it.

Rachit

Oldboy
I agree Mr. Raja Sen
by Oldboy on Jan 22, 2006 06:43 PM

I think what you've written here is a fabulous letter. I was thinking of writing this myself. I've seen Oldboy more than 50 times and that movie cannot be remade. Not by Bollywood not by Hollywood.
