When I came out of the movie I was awed by the movie and sanjay dutts acting and sanjay guptas direction
But after watching oldboy on the same day my perception changed
After watching Zinda I felt there was something missing in the end, the climax was not appropriate but after watching Oldboy I realized thats the perfect ending.
But still kudos to sanjay dutt for his all time best performance and no comments for sanjay gupta J

Copy or no Copy
by Shiva on Jan 21, 2006 05:50 AM

I heard people saying bollywood movies copied from hollywood. lets look at the movies which are not copied & which has something called as STORY. I believe that good work should never go unnoticed. that's why if i get a chance i would make A BEAUTIFUL MIND, CAST AWAY, THE AVIATOR, ROAD TO PERDITION, JURASSIC PARK, SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARON & THERE R MANY OTHERS IN THE LIST in hindi. these movies have a superb story. why only Hollywood, look at some of the stories in Tamil, Malayalam & Kannada films... AUTOGRAPH is a movie with a perfect story... it is as if u r looking at ur own life. Bollywood is no longer concentrating on giving good stories; it is concerned with Commercial movies KANK, Jodha, etc. period films with huge cast, but the story is absolutely null.

We dont care

Raja Sen you are such a hypocrite. Zinda was the most fun movie I have watched in recent times. While you may have watched the original, most people like me and that includes 98% of the hindi movie watching public havent seen or less heard about Oldboy. So if its a ripoff we just dont care as long as the treatment is good. Who makes original films these days. So if Sanjay Gupta doesnt deserve to be a director, neither do RGV or Priyadarshan(who incidently has made a name for himself by ripping films left and right). At least Sanjay made a film that was entertaining and worth watching. There are some "great" directors who copy blatantly in the name of creativity and still end up messing it all.

Just one thing on Priyadarsan, eventhough Im not a fan of his skills but def. enjoyed his malayalam crass comedies..
He has mostly remade films from what he did in malayalam - thats not a copyright violation because he is the creative owner of those scripts, may not be monetary; But he has also lifted and remade films from other directors but settled with them monetarily; So theres a subtle difference here..

Zinda is better than the most of the movies that have released in past couple of weeks.

Well first thing first :----
The author of the article gives the reason "the blatant lifts from hollywood movies"..
Well dear author, if that is your reason for not watching a movie, then i m afraid u have any NEW hindi movie (or for that matter any NEW indian movie ) movie to watch. And I guess you dont listen to hindi music also coz., that is a lift from hollywood tunes.

You talked about kaante.... so let me tell you that kannte was more gripping and better movie than the original "Reservoir Dogs"

Coming back to Zinda -- the movie is worth watching the story line is good... good suspense and a gripping first half.

Or I think you like stupid comedies that are released every other friday like "no entry" that was the biggest grosser of last year.... and another meaningless comedy "garam masala"

Zinda is far better than above mentioned hits, and sanjay dutt rocks in the movie. (though I dont like him as an actor :-) )

Regards
Anurag

wrong point raja sen!!
by nirav on Jan 21, 2006 03:53 AM

There's so much discussion about zinda. It's been more than a lakh of scenes/songs/movies copied and adapted to suit the audience...

from what i know, most of them acknowledge that it's not an original... i believe the only point Raja was trying to make but could not because of his confused head was that it should be mentioned somewhere in the titles, or permission should be sought.

no point in blaming one guy mr sanjay gupta. There are many like him in bollywood, indipop, television, etc....

remember the dialougwise ripoff of Friends?? Called hello friends in Hindi? the serial was a total flop here.

Anyways, rediffmail please dont publish such articles. if someone (raja wont) takes an effort to create some law to get permission for copying stuff, or making it necessity to acknowledge original artists, then write the news.

raja ji, i hope you are enjoying the attention you are getting.

others who support raja, well, you all lie in the same boat as him. keep floating around in the sea. no one cares.

I love indian movies - I think they are just wonderful, I have been raised on them. It is because of this love, I am enraged when I find myself watching a movie, which I feel like I have seen somewhere. . oh wait wasn't this some hollywood movie I just saw a couple years ago - or worse an old tv movie rip-off! (aahh my friend its been done so many times) Plagirism is a dishonorable act.
I understand the sentiment that all people in India have the opportunity to see films made in foreign nations. Thats fine. Great - re-make the movie.
If you are going to take another mans work and redo and "Indianize" it - great, but call it Screenplay Adaptations - not Original Screenplay. Contact the studio that made the movie, or the director, if possible and let them know that your honoring there work and efforts by allowing millions of cinegoers in India the opportunity to enjoy this story. In the movie - thank them .. endorse their original work. Dont say the movie is written and directed by - whatever, but say Adapted By -. Its not just this specific director that lifts scenes - everyone does it .. and we the movie-goers do not hold them responsible and we should.

Protect copyright and kill piracy
by sanjeev on Jan 21, 2006 02:59 AM

Raja

This article of yours is thought provoking.

One point which I would like to add to your reasons is the filmakers pitch to the viewers to watch the movies on big screen in an effort to kill piracy.

We see Amitabh and other stars and film makers come on TV again and again.

The irony is people like Gupta are themselves doing a pirates act.

There should be strong copyright acts and these people should be sued for these reprehensible aopying.

Thanks

Sanjeev

thats what i think abt ur "why i wont watch zinda" article ... how many people in india have watched "old boy" ... or "resevvoior dogs" or the other movies that u have named ... not even 1% ... so theres nothing wrong in taking such movies and redirecting them ...

even hollywood deos that , when it remade , grudge , dark water , ring .. ect from J-Horror ... so do not tell us that bollywood is doing anything wrong in remaking movies and releasing it in india ..

and plz i would anyday watch sanju baba or amitabh than any travolta, samuel jackson or whoever the hollywood boasts of ..

bottomline .. please media act responsibnly .. u guys r the ones who bought this western culkture influence in india and r now rubbishing bollywood movies ..

thats all i got to say ...

peace out
sunny.

Hi..
I just went through some of your comments as well as the article.. and saw lots of bashing for the Zinda..
I have seen it and find very good movie .. I was entertained.. Point is .. if we are getting entertained then why should we care whether it is original or copied from some other movie...

Ah, so Gupta loved Oldboy so much that he wanted to share his love with all of us, and how did he do that... Oh boy, do you think he is doing it for charity.
He may be obliging likes of you, but not me and everyone who thinks what Sen has said is right.
