Protagonist/ Portrayal
by surya on Jun 27, 2005 11:01 AM

Sorry madam for not able to agree with you bcoz,

1. first of all, its not contemporary,
2. no base for lachi's compromise with the other - her husband did not deserted her, he went to prove himself, and sons going away to prove themselves is part of hindu mythology/ folklore/ history also.
3. just bcoz she is stranded for companionship, she need not betray him, while kisanlal is devoutly earning and yearning for her company.
4. i just remembered this is amol palekar movie, ghost conceiving child, if its from some other director, its digestible, not from a true technician.
5. i didnot understood why certain sheperd was rurring.. his sheep through a desert and suddenly shows up.
6. i find directors interest in the content of the looks rather than content of the issue. atleast, there is no bhansali's glossyness and thanks for that.
7. one and only reason this movie is a must for every cinegoer is - to view and feel why the badshah is badshah, who said successor to the gr8 amit has not come, we didnot observed/ recognised him, he was right here, among us since the days of deewana!!
KUDOS TO SHAH RUKH KHAN for daring to produce the movie
7.

Paheli just an ordinary fare
by Kaushik on Jun 27, 2005 10:09 AM

The reviewer just made the movie look one of the best movie hitting the screen in ages. But the fact of the matter is that Paheli is just an ordinary fare!

With wafer thin storyline, minute-a-song and colourful costumes Paheli is neither-here-nor-there movie. Like all parallel movie-maker Amol is also confused about his first commercial venture.... Amol Palekar is one of the finest directors we have in the country. I guess he should develop his own niche than making Sharukh and Rani sing and dance.

Having said that, Sharukh and Rani are the only saving grace... without these two this movie would have been a complete disaster! See it if only you are a Sharukh or Rani fan!

Storytelling is important in movie! Paheli fails to deliver that till its 12th reel. By the time the story takes an interesting turn, the audience is too tired to listen to it!

Review Please do not exaggerate
by MovieFan on Jun 27, 2005 09:25 AM  | Hide replies

reviewer, please do not exaggerate. It's looks like you are Great Great Fan of Amol Palekar. Whoever will watch movie, will soon realize truth in your statement.
I agree that movie had beautiful color, but story wise, it's for kids. There were so many pitfalls in the movie. I doubt anyone can digest that Ghost can have baby. Ghost are visiting temple and living like human being.
Ghost is saying that "I can not live without Rani and I can not die".
there was no climax in the movie. It was a stupid lok katha, you should watch without using your brain and just see the color.

Paheli-A terrible letdown!!
by JIjo Joseph on Jun 27, 2005 09:01 AM

Paheli is a sad film...a film that only has good visuals and a good convincing performance by Rani Mukherjee. That apart, the movie is boring, insipid, with too many songs, SRK playing too dumb to the hilt(someone was right when he said that SRK would be the biggest drawback for this film).SRK, off serious films please, you can stick to the Chopras and the Johars.
The reviewer has gone ga-ga over a film, that is just purely an average film, with not much to rave about at all.But thats not surprising, as true Film reviews are now rare, and most reviews are done, keeping in mind, the lead actors and their camps in mind.
Anyways, Paheli terribly disappointed and the one person who'll lose face after this would be Amol Palekar; coz this definitely aint his style of film making.

Place - Mumbai Fun Republic...
Status - House Full for Paheli
30 mins after the start - half of us were talking to each other...trying to see some sense in movie
60 mins later - few of us just went into nap
75 mins later - the best part of movie 'Interval'
1.45 hrs later - slept more deeply as i ate a lot in interval. Many of the audience left because they wanted to sleep at home and not in theatre
2.30 hrs later - end of a horrible dream...

I died because of the level of boredom in the movie...:-((
by Anurag on Jun 27, 2005 06:29 AM

think SRK is not an Indian Hero anymore. Had this movie been shot in London with colourful dresses and wedding songs, it would have been a HIT. But sadly this movie is in India with SRK as a ghost :-)) sounds funny....Theatre was half filled...on weekend...and still press would call this movie a hit...so sad...everyone was sleeping around me

what a waste of talent...Amol Palekar...Amitabh Bachchan...Anupam Kher

they all make a Flop...so sad...

Anyway...lets wait for some more movies from Yash Chopras...some love sagas from them or some Family dramas from Karan Johar to see SRK.

I don't know why did they choose SRK for such a mature role..that too with a Moustache...ha ha ha ...

seriously think twice before you buy the ticket...

rather take the DVD for rent...its cheaper option to get bored...:-)))

Utterly..boring movie

Paheli is highly over-rated
by Rippy on Jun 27, 2005 05:48 AM

I think the review of Paheli posted above is highly highly over-rated.I thought Manmohan Desai was the king of illogic, but it's time to crown SRK and Amol Palekar as the new kings for making such a lousy film. One encounters a ghost in this film which can actually sing, dance and even make love. The most unbelievable aspect of the film being where Rani gets pregnant with the ghost's kid. I consider myself a huge movie buff and actually love watching Bollywood and Hollywood flicks. In my life i have never seen something as absurd as Paheli. Mr.Amol Palekar and Mr.SRK please don't take the audience for granted. They are not as stupid and dumb as you perceive them to be. You cannot cover your shortfalls with big stars, colours, and special effects. Give Paheli a couple of weeks and you will hear and see the verdict of the audience loud and clear. Nothing in the world can stop this film from Flopping, not even Mr.Raja Sen's review.

Paheli
by viswanath on Jun 27, 2005 05:15 AM

Paheli is a picture with good visuals. The story line is unbelievable and slow. Just becuase SRK is there , it will get good BO sales. I saw the picture, but I didnt like it too much. Rani again is good but getting repetitive and predictable. OK movie that is all. It is not visuals alone which make a movie.
