Fairy tales are not 3 hour long movies
by Siddhartha on Jun 28, 2005 03:36 PM

Great camerawork, great use of colours....but the story was worth a short 30 min film and the way it was extended with songs which are not THAT great and deliberate twists in the tale...it ended up being a dull and dreary affair. I'm all for the love of art and making an honest movie but an ego trip at the cost of the movie goer...that's bad. Mr. Palekar should not have strayed to the mainstream.

certainly not as good as the review by rediff. One can witness a typical grandma story with rich rajasthan culture and some good music to ears after lagaan.
one can enjoy and relax watching the movie. surely not front benchers or teenagers movie.
cheers,

Movie Lover
Raja Sentimental?
by Movie Lover on Jun 28, 2005 05:54 AM

Rediff has proved again that they are bunch or SRK fans.
This movie will quietly flop like Swades. Taran Adarsh in IndiaFM has blindly put 4 stars. For B&B he put 1 star. The movie is still running with huge success and has done 28crore of business (12 crore more than Swades already).
Paheli is just an OK movie. Nothing great. Go see Bunty aur Bably or Parineeta instead.
SRK himself is a paheli. With his kind of acting how does he manage to get these reviews?
SRK....Come out of Love, love, love, love, ....
I don't understand how people say he has done different acting. He will never change.
Don't worry SRK. If the movie is not hit somebody will give you best actors award next year.
Very lucky guy.

Another spoiled weekend

Oh my Ghost!Yet another fitting example of how messed up our minds are! We are confused in every damn thing in our life and this movie is not at all an exception. Agreed this is a fairy tale, but I bet there will be scores of spirits (sprites!) waiting in Kasi, to become a ghost who can impregnate a beautiful woman. Gone are the days to be afraid of ghosts, it is time to make love to them!

The only question that has been lingering in my mind after that fateful sunday evening is, why the ghost waited for 15 long reels to get into the husband's body? It could well have done that right after the marriage and spared us all the BS. To answer my own question, may be ghosts don't believe in 'Love at First Sight'.Needs some feel, touch, jhatka-matka and a lot of camel running.

what a piece of crap!
by Peru on Jun 28, 2005 12:31 AM

I saw this film the first day and what a way to waste $10.. Its colorful alrite and has decent performances alrite.. but what a BS story was that! It might have been based on a novel or fable or whatever - but its totally not entertaining. Its totally senseless and just gets plain irritating after a while. I wld definitely not recommend this movie to anyone. I have read a cpl of good reviews of this film. They are reviewing it more from a technical point rather than an entertainment point.. well anyways, I never really do care abt rediff reviews.

Paheli a bad attempt to make art film commercial
by mb on Jun 27, 2005 11:56 PM

I feel Paheli was bad expereince as the theme was suppose to be an intense one and it was made comedy and all the feelings of characters and movie itself was gone.

Sorry to say but I am utterly disappointed by the film.

Shashwat D.C.
Paheli or Palekarli?
by Shashwat D.C. on Jun 27, 2005 04:58 PM

I wanted to see to Paheli for one reason (Palekar) and dreaded it for another (Shahrukh), luckily my fears were unfounded, Palekar won the day for me. The intrinsic problem with Shahrukh is that he is Shahrukh in every film, the same knitted brows, the same lisp, the same pained look. He is larger than life and never becomes a charactor of the film. Even Mani Ratnam failed on this account in Dil Se, Ratnam was bedazzled by Shahrukh. No director seems to able to de-star-ise Shahrukh. And this is where Palekar has clicked, in this movie, and thank god for small mercies, there was a character named Kishenlal enacted by Shahrukh and not the other way round. It has been a very long time, since that has happened. Though, there was one eyesore, to many renowed faces, Suniel Shetty, where was his need, ditto for Juhi or Bachchan.

Maybe, Palekar wanted to go all out, not take any chances. And this is what I am scared of, if makers like Palekar, Benegal, Nihalini, Mishra need star to sell their films, doesn't this speak bad of the Indian audience mindset? How shallow we have sunk, that we need Shahrukh to prop Paheli. But this time round, he deserves all the bouquets. And so does Palekar.
