This is an awesome movie, just watched yesterday in Edison, NJ. Could not handle Sarkar, so ran away into Paheli, and what a good decision was that.
SRK is a versatile actor and he has proved it again.Obviously this movie is meant to be for people who are into something above the regular pop corn munching, teen flick or may I say more meaningful and tastefully done cinema.
I saw 'Paheli' and it is a slow-moving film, though laced with genteel humour by the director Amol Palekar... Shah Rukh manages to keep the audience in good humour with his confused/puzzled looks and his stick-on moustache! Rani Mukherji is superb; so is the photography and breathtaking costumes and locales.
Shah Rukh as a producer has made a mistake in selecting the music director.. he should have chosen Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (they are good in composing classical based tunes too!) instead of M M Cream (the cream is not delicious at all.. hehehehe). If reports that some parts of the film were directed by Shah Rukh himself when Amol Palekar was not well, are true, then he has done a reasonably good job.
Good luck Shah Rukh... become a director yourself!
Frankly, Raja Sen must be FIRED!!!! Rani Mukherji has never looked this ugly before and the movie is just stupid! What a waste of money!! nobody watch it please.
I watched the movie...yesterday... It is a folktale....which I used to enjoy when I was a kid..and still enjoy them...I share them with my daughter..... My husband hates those stories and He doesn\'t like Shahrukh...and not to mention he is not very romantic type.... Well our family went to the movies yesterday...My husband went directly to Sarkar...(his type of movie I guess) and me and my daughter (4yr already knows the story and was looking forward for a ghost story) watched Paheli...
We both liked the movie so much....it was fun for my daughter - she wanted to watch more tricks....but it is very balanced to appeal others (other than my husband types) Finally - I just want to say not all like all movies...the reason so many different kind of stories and movies...so I liked it and my daughter liked it...and I belive a good story is a story which appeals a kid and makes an adult feel like a kid.
