Lets not gun for Raja Sen cause he's pointing out flaws we might not have noticed. If somebody has an argument to make, let him/her counter the arguments made by the critic. Clearly, he's not an incorrigible cynic: he recognizes that Mehta's done a good job before, that we expect better from Amir. Anyways, I do not expect Indian movies to incorrectly represent historical events. I do not expect the story to wander off un-necessarily. There is no reason why our movies should remain sub-standard (before somebody jumps at me, there are lots of Bollywood movies that in my opinion are masterpieces). If you're dense, go read some other review. I appreciate somebody who calls it like it is.
Hi sen, How will u rate urself as a critic?Above taran adarsh?forget that...being a critic u should bring every bit of the movie to lime light.second half of the movie is mind blowing.forget about authencity of the story.look at the efforts of the artist how the justified with the role.aamir is awesome.ranis is equally gud.may b set is not gud.set for sure it shucks.misic cant b expected better than this. i'll rate it 7 out 10 if lagan 10 out of 10
common it isn't a bad or cliche film,as we all know that in history nothing much is written about mangal pandey so naturally they had to craft some new characters to make a tale,i look at it in a positive way it is the message which is important and not the very minute and trivial things in the movie.whatever style of filmmaking they followed they have done it beautifully and as far as skin show is concern well we all will agree thatts the type of clothes villagers used to wear as per your point of view u will say same things for gandhi. and that is absurd.i think the film is good and so much we r talking about almost forgotten martyer is a big enough achievement this film has made.
Its indeed amazing to note that these same so-called critics and pseudo historians blast a film, when it does not seem commercially viable.How many people saw Sardar?How many saw Bose?But if a Film of the magnitiude and scale of Mangal Pandey was made,the producers will want to recover the costs.I dont remember anyone pulling down Ashoka, after its release, which was nothing but a complete hog wash. And ironical again isnt it,that for a country that kept believing all the time that they didnt know much about Mangal Pandey,the Raja Sens and Saibal Chatterjees now seem to know how he lived, what he wore and what all he did.I guess Farrokh Dhondy could have taken their help for the film. The movie may not have been worth all the hype, but it definitely worth a watch,for Aamir Khan and Toby Stephens, for Ketan Mehta's Direction. And if these so called duds need authentic history films, lets have them trying to make a 10 minute documentary on some histroical character.This would be like what happened to Khalid Mohd, who kept blasting all films in his role as critic, and then has come up with 3 stupid films.
Hi All, I have seen the movie MP and let me tell you i have not seen such a bogus movie so far.The movie is all about prostitutes not about mangal pandey, i dont understand what rani mukharjee is doing in the movie.
Few utter nonsense scenes in the movie: 1. showing breast feeding to a child unnecessary two times. 2. kiren kher's stupid expose. 3. rani mukharjee standing in front of a dr. and dr.'s dialogue. aaahhhhh......it was a thrilling mistake i did in my life that i went to see this movie....yaaakkkkkk !!!
i totally agree with raja sen's review...the film is worth receiving this amount of crtitism. I live in a foreign land and have seen the movie..along woth foreign citizens.....and they truely get a bad picture of India....this movie really makes a mockery of a heroic character in India's war of independence...ketan mehta should have done much more research on this before going for the movie. I totally agree with each word Raja has to say...and it is much worse than Ashoka. I admire Amir and I am sure he is capable of much better performances. Keep it up Raja...
