You are nuts

Raja Sen, you make me sick. If you only saw the cleavage and the long hair in "Mangal Pandey", you are one sad case and I feel sorry for you! The movie may not have been a classic but was definitely not as bad as you made it out to be. Go and spew your vitriol some place else, you loser !

For Raja Sen's eyes only..get back to me dude.
by Gayatri on Oct 05, 2005 09:23 PM

Almost??ALMOST?!! Dude I seriously advise you to 'hack off' your humble curls right away you can't seem to see things clearly at all!And have your lovely curls clouded your mind's eye too or what? The movie's ok,strange in places, but basically good. And why would the 'three paagraphs in our histrory books' on Mangal Pandey talk about his alcohol consumption??We make an icon out of a rebellious sepoy and we're scared of maligning those icons. SO you don't want to see Pandey as an afternoon bhang-drinker and as a hypocrite who talks of values and of caste codes(brahmin or otherwise)on one hand and on the other hand clings'wetly'(did you say?) to this 'nautch-girl'. Amisha patel as always is utterly useless, regardless of the film or the role or anything at all. Dude open your eyes.SEE the movie.Dont write stuff just for shock value. Your words have biting satire.Don't waste them.

Did Mr. Sen get paid by to write this article?
by Suparna Guha on Sep 08, 2005 10:51 PM

I guess, Rediff editotrs and Mr. Raja Sen have been rewarded handsomely (in cash) by someone to write this article against Mangal Pandey. I watched this movie in a theatre in the US and I consider myself educated enough to say that Mangal Pandey is worth watching, especially the way Amir Knan acted in ths movie.

Raja Sen?
by Subhojit Sanyal on Sep 08, 2005 05:22 PM

What really shocked me right from the beginning was the way Rediff promoted the review - The Raja Sen review? Who is this klu-klux-klan in the first place? I think someone should tell the editor, that no one knows about him in the first place! And after seeing the 'review' he has posted and must add that either Rediff is planning to wind up its business, or they are trying to wind up the movies page!

Why do you want to post reviews like these? Who pays you, Karan Johar or Shah Rukh Khan? Why the comparison with Ashoka of all films? Aamir Khan plays the part much better than ShahRukh did in his film, the cinematography was the same, the music was equally good, and the story-telling was marvellous!

It is quite evident that this Mr. Raja Sen, whoever he is, is a thorough-bred Shah Rukh fan and that is not a disqualification in the whole sense, but not acceptable when he is crafting a review for people to read! He should not use his pen to voice his own favouritism!

Rediff should issue an apology to all its readers, so that we have some faith left in the website! Or very soon there will be just one hit on this site - that of Mr. Raja Sen!

Rediff editor and Mr. Sen both out of their minds!
by Rakesh on Sep 05, 2005 05:30 PM

Having read the 97 or so reviews of Raja sen's "Review" of The Rising, I've concluded that Rediff has indeed shot himself in the foot publishing this wild, weird and biased to the extent of hatred "review". Almost 99% of people in this message board have cursed both rediff and Mr Sen for this totally false, unjustified and out of place/time review.
I did like a few of Mr. Sens earlier articles, but it seems he's gone greedy (under table deals, maybe) with time and has gone totally insane writing this time. Or, maybe he tries to settle some personal scores against The Rising's producers/directors or Aamir Khan himself? Whatever be the cause, I believe it was also a duty of Rediff's editor not to have passed this review for publishing, moreover so late after the films initial release. The fact that this, so called "review" was published after all, speaks volumes about Rediff's slipping standards and don't care attitude towards the reality and visitors opinions'. I dont see whats the problem of rediff acknowledging The Rising as an epic masterpiece (which it truly is) and accepting the fact that the film has done/ is doing fabulous business both in India and abroad.

Mangal PAndey
by Nawaz on Sep 04, 2005 05:44 PM

I am not an indian national and i have seen this movie in EUROPE and i must say its an excellent cinema, i dont know how true it is but Aamir said watever he has shown, all written and published in books, I think this reviewer has some personal issues with the director and the star cast of The Rising or may be he is fan of some other super star. The movie is worth watching right from the first scene. There are so many scence that must be awarded. Above all the I have no words for the performance of Aamir!! simply superb.

Brother You can not force your views on others.

regards

Review: Mangal Pandey part -II
by Rajesh Pandey on Sep 03, 2005 08:54 PM

Continue from part -I

Dialouges: The film can not be seen with whole family. People feel embarrass in the theatre.
* Not at all taken care of. When the english officer asks jwala abt the children, she says my husband was too old. The same thing could have been put in another form.
* Unnecessarily commenting about prostitutes. Too many scenes given for that unnecessry part i.e selling the girls, the person says about lifting the bottom to show if she is virgin or clumsy comments by kiran kher when rani mukherjee comes to her or when mangal pandey goes to doctor. I cann't think of, what he (Amir or ketan mehta) was trying to show. Do they think doing exposure or using absuive language makes mavie more realistic. I think they need to see movies by Hrikesh Mukherjee or many others.

Acting:
The english man has done much better acting than Amir Khan. Most of the talents has been wasted in showing junk things.
Songs:
Except the theme song (mangal-mangal) else is jungal-jungal.

Summary:
It takes more than just having big stars and big budget to make a period movie. People feel to be fooled by them. It's good for nothing. Art is always bigger than artist, Amir forgot that.

Review: Mangal Pandey
by Rajesh Pandey on Sep 03, 2005 08:41 PM

Those who have not seen the movie, I will recommend not to watcg the movie. Specially, Amir Khan's fans would be really disappointed. I cann't believe they have made the movie in 4 years or even in 2 years as Amir says. Those who consider Amir as perfectionist would like to change their opinion. I don't see even proper home-work done. Here are the few points to be noted:

# Shooting Sets: Except the viallge street (which is shown at least 10 times in the movie) there is nothing like period movie.
# Story: They haven't tried to look into the story properly. Most of things are from 3-4 paragraphs which I remember read in my 9th standard history book. Their was a serial on DD-one long back in morning probably 7 am, all the pictures have been taken from that but not the other details. Wherever they have tried to put something from themselves they have actually made it worse.
# Scenes: *Looks like The village lady is just been taken to show topless, which is ridiculous. She is wearing ironed, neat and clean white saree with blue border. In short that scene looks crap.
*The character of jwala has bot been justified.
Entertainment is missing totally from the movie.
More in next part.
