this is the first time i have seen such hash criticism and that for a movie which is beyond all that masala kinda stuff.. Mangal pandey is a special film made on the life of a person and it should be appreciated....
I am really surprised to read a review like this. The movie's review posted by rediff on 12th August said that the movie was excellent. And the last words of that review were: go "HALLA BOL" at the theaters. That review was by Lindsay Pereira. I totally agree the movie was really excellent and worth a watch at least 10 times.
So, I request raja sen to read the review posted on 12 August. And I sincerely request rediff.com to think hard before posting reviews by people like raja sen.
The most weird part is that how rediff can even think of posting such a review by such a pathetic person like RAJA SEN. Raja sen has no sensibilities.
Rediff please don't post such reviews in future for great films like "MANGAL PANDEY" and AAMIR KHAN. I really can't
This is not about judging the quality, capability, credentials or even sanity of fourth grade film critics like Raja Sen, etc., It is not about Rediff adopting the strategy to rake up discussions and controversies by putting up crap on its web site. It is about the REPUTATION OF REDIFF. Honestly ... if you guys continue hiring services of such low grade professionals, it is bound to affect its name, fame, popoularity, respect ... and of course readership.
This might sound like a very personal comment to you ... but then its people like me who have patronised Rediff. So pls play heed.
raja ur article on mangal pandey (cleavage an cliche) is a perfect film review according to me. most of the renowned newspapers of our country have misguided the audience by giving fake 3 an 4 stars to the film.i think ur write up is very straightforward and honest. good work..keep it up. -- renu.
well the review itself isnt that bad, but maybe you shouldnt try to \\\"impose\\\" your personal opionion on others.well i wont claim that the movie is excellent, i would sayits just passable with lots of historical \\\"misrepresentations\\\" and stuff like that. but i would also say its worth the watch once (for some people). and also comenbadle is the effort gone into making the movie though with inaccurate descriptions. and also there is a problem with us. we really dont have any written proof of what really happened we believe what has been passed on to us by our former generations . well in this movie i would say there is a lot of Aamir khan factor which tries to override the entore theme and concept of the movie and more than at times. i would definitely say it dosent do anything to hold us there to give us that patriotic fever (which patriotic films should do) and the women in the film dosent do anything other than what they do in all th eother hindi movies-bare and dance. also cheesy would be the mock marriage ceremony towards the end, they allowed a marrige to a man who would die the next day and i wonder why his \\\"friends\\\" couldnt get though to him since his girlfriend could. stupid.
The movie was a serious let down. It all started like that. Aamir khan took inspiration from the incomplete kamal hasan movie 'Marudhunayagam' which is also about a sepoy during british time. Only thing is no one can act like Kamal Hasan who is the best actor in India. I like Aamir Khan. He has done a good role but with such horrible screenplay and direction, he cant single handedly take the film towards success. The Amisha patel role was most unnecessary.. she doesnt know acting. Rani did here role pretty well. It should be blamed on the director for making such a seneseless movie which offered very little but headache at the end of 3 hours. I wish Aamir was bit more choosy about the roles he play. He has immense talent and should not waste it acting in such horrible movies. And yes Ashoka was much worse than mangal pandey.

>>Kamal Hasan who is the best actor in India. I suppose you liked his acting in Mumbai Express very much.. C\'mon who are you kidding.. More than the movie, Kamalhassan\'s acting was horrible.. Pls. come out of your regional feelings and start appreciating what is good outside Tamilnadu too..
Though Kamalhassan has done more variety of roles , Aamir is unarguably a better actor than him.
hey u mr critic just stop criticisisng the movie for the sake of it and u cant underestimate a r rahman numbers if u have got the real guts then go first find a script and then direct it........
I think the review is ok. But we need to understand that it is cinema so we can have cinametic liberties such as long haris etc. Although rani, amisha were totally unnecesary. Ok Good one.
