Dev: No one better than Amitji
by Shamit on May 02, 2005 01:02 PM

Dev is a well made movie on communal exploitation. However, without Amitji it wouldn't have been a worth watching one. He is excellent in his role. Ompuri, Roti as well as Fardeen does quite a good job. However, as always Kareena is irritating as ever.

DEV!!!!!! WOW, What a movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Anitha on Jul 22, 2004 10:09 AM

A must see movie for all Indians. Sterling performance by AB, Fardeen and Om Puri. Hats off to Govind Nihalani for honestly and truthfully breaking out the incidents of the G violence. What a movie. I have just seen the movie and still not able to come out of the spell. We shoulde encourage such directors to take more movies on this line going out of the usual masala bollywood movies.

Last but not the least, I think that the rediff reviewer for the movie has seen the movie as a time pass. If the movie has 5 fight scenes and 5 sexy song scenes then the movie would have a good review. Nice logic eh!!!!! Rediff should discourage such people who do like this (definitely he is not a movie critic to give a bad review like this). Request rediff to show the reviewer some good movies and bring him out of his bollywood crape.

Misleading reviews
by prem on Jul 06, 2004 12:07 AM

Hi,
The reviewer seems to be very caustic about dev for no reason. Please don't discourage people from seeing such an awakening movie through your dumb and "formulaic" reviews.Let people see the truth and atleast a fraction of them know about the ills facing our system. This is a very refreshing movie totally different from all those masala flicks and those mushy impractical love stories

Review of DEV and opposition to legal suit
by Prof Rajendra Aggarwala Lt.Col.(retired) on Jun 28, 2004 04:36 AM

It is strange that whenever it suits the Bollywood moghuls and their supporters, they claim of enemity and insecure communal situation in Gujrat to defame Modi, but in the same breath the same groups now claim that there is amity between Hindus and Muslims?

Religious issues should never be politicised as the Congress and Communists have been doing for decades. It is time that certain important nationasl problems should be handled in bipartisan spirit for the good of the nation and welfare of all communities. Only the enemies of the nation including many in bollywood want to continue to exploit religious sentiments not only for political ends but to make money. DEV is possibly one example.

This was really unfortunate to read the review which showed the real negative attitude while reviewing the best film of the year and it will definitely demoralise the talented people who come up with a good subject and presents it with great showman ship.
I liked the film too much and wondered how can one find it a FUSS?
People can like Main Hoo na and DEV is better product than this and BIG AB has proved that he is the living legend and True Super star.Three cheers for his outstanding perforamance !! He is the acting school and present actors should take lessons from him including all Khans especially Salman Khan.

Hi,
The movie is excellent, the story, star cast, direction wonderful. Amitabh, it seems is getting better day by day, movie by movie. The expressions of an honest police officer come naturally to him.
Om puri, Fardeen and the Kapoor babe have done excellent job. I will watch the movie atleast one more time.

good movie
by deepa on Jun 21, 2004 11:08 PM

I watched DEV and I like it. I like the chemistry between Om-Puri and Big B. The subject of the movie is pretty sensitive but the director has taken it well. And the surprisingly, I liked Kareena Kapoor for the first time in my life. Fardeen is good here.

Half truth told by Govind Nihlani
by Pankaj on Jun 21, 2004 09:30 PM

I have always admired Govind Nihlani's movies such as Droha Kaal, Aakrosh, Ardha Satya. Dev is in the same tradition of depicting the hard hitting facts. How politicians and police force collaborated with rioters in Gujarat for killing the minorities as a reaction to an act of violence first done by minority community itself. Even though I agree that police and politicians must follow the rule of law and must protect all sections of society against violence. Right to survive and to live is a basic human right and not only our constitution but also all our scriptures say that innocent lives cannot be taken for any reason whatsoever. Only problem is when minority is target of violence it becomes headlines in all the newspapers, great movies and documentaries are made about it and shown in all international conferences and universities. But when majority Hindus are targeted in Kashmir, Bangladesh or at the time of partition in Punjab, NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT. And this imbalance is what annoys us. What Govind Nihlani has shown in DEV is very similar to what Gulzar showed in Maachis how police atrocities turn innocent minority youth to become terrorist. This is half truth.
