I am sure this move is a political move
by Lynston Cowan on Jul 10, 2014 09:45 PM

This is just a political move to appease a segment of the society. A developing nation needs to focus its resources on something else which can help it move further.

Does a statue help in anything besides just being admired? People are not having jobs in India and here the Govt. is planning to built statues. Unbelievable this can happen only in India

Utter waste of Tax Payers money
by Lynston Cowan on Jul 10, 2014 09:42 PM  | Hide replies

This is a waste the nation needs jobs and basic necessity like food clothing and shelther use this money to eradicate poverty.

What sense does a statue make to the nation rather than just being a symbol of unity? The same money can be used to remove / reduce poverty.

Gujarati gimmick

If Mr Modi wants to build the tallest statue in the world, pray, why in Gujarat???? If in Gujarat, then let the Gujarat population pay for it, since it is going to make Mr Modi famous and benefit the state of Gujarat, which has hardly anything to boast of in terms of tourist value. For sure they will mint money once the statue is ready as it will become a tourist destination, till such time as an equally foolish and wasteful individual sets out to build an even taller statue in some other part of the country/world. And what happened to Mr Modi's "bhashan" asking every farmer to donate a piece of "loha" to build the statue? Why is public money being allocated to humour one individual's aspirations?

There are so many towers and statues world over as tourist attraction, so nothing wrong for allocating a small amount.

Mr Sardar Patil deserved this long back, but this Congress - Nehru - Gandhi's have left him out of the History.

But for Mr Sardar patil, India would not have been what it is today, we would be having J& K 's with article 370, and more or Nizam's Telangana's with article 371.

See what this politicians of AP - Telangana have exploited by Congress for 42 MP's from 1967 onwards, after the split of Congress during Ms Indira Gandhi, and lastly Soniaji getting highest MP's from this area to rule as UPA 1&2, leaving YSR & jagan to loot the State.
Today w/o the MP's for congress from these area, running around for Leader of Opposition what an unfortunate turn of events.

The Statue will be a tourist attraction connected with Mumbai by bullet train over a period of time.

Some want IIT's - IIM's what for, we have seen what the economist PM has done for this country for the last 10 years, and does any of these IIT - IIM's can improve the manufacturing sector to get more jobs for the normal Xth or PUC or ITI techanicians, as mentioned by Na Mo we need skilled people so that they can be employable.

Already, we have too many managers under performing and increasing the overheads in the organisations.

Even Mr Narayan Murthy has mentioned repeatedly that the Graduates produced are not employable, so we don't need any more immediately, later can be looked i

Spending on statues !
by sadiq umer on Jul 10, 2014 05:45 PM

I think it is mindless spending crores of Rupees on mere statues, no matter how great a person is. Look what Ms Mayawati achieved carving parks after parks with Ambedkar's statues, and more foolishly, her own.....We could use this corpus for something better, like linking the rivers of India, and the like.
Even cleaning the Ganga is a monumental task, and wasting money on it is also not worthwhile, as you cannot clean people with their wrong habits. People will continue polluting it as is their habit, to bathe in it, use it as a toilet, use it to clean their bodies, after a toilet. We need to educate people on this issue, spend more on providing them with toilet, along the banks on the Ganga, and make them use the toilets, rather than the river. My best wishes......I would love a clean Ganga, but everyone wants to bathe in it, including me ??????
