IT IS AN ATROCIOUS DECISION
by Vascado on Jul 11, 2014 02:57 PM

In a poverty stricken Country where more than 65% of the population goes hungry in the night, this decision to build a statue on public funds is criminal and atrocious. This project was envisaged by Modi and was proposed to be built by deploying Gujarat Government funds as well as public donations. The total cost of this project was estimated to be around $ 338 million and what a waste of public money to honour an icon. Would not the legacy of Patel be well preserved with constructing a School or College in his name ? After the BJP took over power at the Centre and is presenting its first budget, the Finance Minister in these troubled times and pressed for monetary resources is allocating Rs. 200 crores for this project without battling an eye lid in a bid to placate Modi. No time should be wasted to rescind this ill timed decision and allocate this fund elsehwere.

I am ok with it. I keep Sardar Patel out of the list of mean politician. Many people may ask question on this allocation because they are used to hear all the roads, bridges, flyovers and airports in the name of Nehru family only.Under privilege people will always remain in our country that doesn't mean Government shouldn't do any big monumental projects. Just for example The Jesus in Rio De Janeiro,Statue of Liberty in USA and many others in the world.

by skmahendroo on Jul 10, 2014 10:39 PM

A memorial for Sr PATEL is welcome .
What about a memorial for brave sons of INDIA who gave their TODAY for our TOMORROW .We live in peace because of their sacrifice .IF politicians resent alloting money I ASSURE THEM THAT EXSERVICEMEN WILL CONTRIBUTE TO MAKE IT WITHOUT ASKING A PAISA FROM UNGRATEFUL POLITICIANS .

Yes. It is perfectly justified.
by Anil Gupta on Jul 10, 2014 09:53 PM

Yes. It is perfectly justified. It is just not building the statue but building a tourist spot of Gujrat which will attract lacs of visitors to Gujrat from India & abroad. Sardar V.B Patel had worked too hard for uniting India & we on our part should not only build his statue but hospital, airports, raiway stations etc etc in his name. Also Indian currency should have a photo of Patel Ji instead of mahatma ghandi.
