The profits are because of the government bonds and subsidies given to them. Otherwise it is a loss.

The base price of petrol is 47% and the other 53% is various tax applicable on Petrol and afterwards around 10-20% subsidy is being given on Diesel and not on the petrol. Ever since the petrol prices are left up to be handled by petrolium companies (And again price of petrol has fall from $150 to $100-105 from , they are sailing in profits..

Philosophical motivation..
by Yasir Ahmed on Mar 01, 2011 01:32 AM  | Hide replies

Of all the effects of facing economics hardships and being pressed and pushed to difficulty, the strongest is depression - the fear of not having control over one's life and one's progress - the fear that things will be unable to manage, that life is ultimately limited. But God's resources never deplete. God did not create this world with limitedness; He created it with abundance. Every time we think that there is an economic depression or recession or price hikes, there is something that recovers the market and brings stability.

So let's face the deepest of the deepest facts - life will move on. We will find a way out. Either we will switch to electric cars or efficient public transport or some other kind of fuel or change our lifestyle. The majority of us whose motivations for actions in life are based on fear rather than hope, we will somehow try to 'get through'. But there are already people working on finding a way. Our Government (whoever - whether Congress or BJP) is inefficient and cannot control oil prices due to several pressures, but we will get through the mess together and find a way out together.

Also let us not forget the unjust and corrupt who fill their bellies with the flesh of others. That is why we face economic injustice - this problem is NOT NATURAL, it is CREATED.

Believe in God and for His sake and your sake, focus on your talents and serve the people. Money and happiness will come to you; difficulty and depression will ultimately go away fro

Yasir:

Talk about "PRESENT", not "FUTURE" or simple sermonising.

It's good for a class/lecture on "MOTIVATION".

Money & Happiness will Come, but when? - after everyone reaches a stage in life when it will matter the least !

Do you know what is the position of electric cars (and its economy) now, 5 years hence, 10 years hence, and even 25 years hence? Depressing !

Get your feet firmly on the ground and live in the present.

Chinese are already a step ahead of us in this matter.
by Vishnu Sharma on Mar 01, 2011 01:23 AM  | Hide replies

Two energy companies in China are planning to open plants that will turn coal into a synthetic fuel for cars and airplanes.

The synthetic diesel is known as “Nazi fuel” because the technology was developed by the Germans called the Fischer-Tropsch process during World War II.

The plants, run by the Shenhua Corporation, will be based in Inner Mongolia. China hopes to use the synthetic fuel to greatly reduce its dependence on foreign oil exports. The Chinese government believes this will be the first two of many such plants. The plants will be the first dedicated synthetic diesel plant in the world when it opens sometime in the next month, although several other countries may be far behind.

Both the United States and India yet to put major resources and planning into the technology. Japan, Australia, Indonesia and several others are either planning or studying a potential synthetic diesel plant. Coal companies are promoting the technology as an alternative to dependence on foreign oil. Rising oil prices have also made the coal-based fuel attractive, as it costs significantly less than the nearly $100 per barrel oil currently commands.

I live in Canada , and we pay only around $1 (i,e, Rs 44/-)for petrol for 1 litre. Then why in Inida it is more than 50 Rs. Please be reminded also that the labour cost is more in Canada. Average labour at gas station earns 20 dollars per hour.
