I live in Canada , and we pay only around $1 (i,e, Rs 44/-)for petrol for 1 litre. Then why in Inida it is more than 50 Rs. Please be reminded also that the labour cost is more in Canada. Average labour at gas station earns 20 dollars per hour.

just to add caada is one of the biggest seller of petrol and India is a buyer so do add shipping cost and sellers profit
without taxes the price of petrol and diesel would be half the present rate.it is a total loot by the govt. and oil companies as the products is also adulterated by the oilafia in collusion with some of the oil company officials and scumbag politicians.

State govts are the biggest culprits when it comes to oil prices since they charge anywhere between 25 to 30% whereas cemtral govt rates of excise and customs are a low 5 to 7.50%.State govts use this money for populist schemes especially in states like tamil nadu
Is not ultimetly subsidy on crude products will flow to pockets of arab producer, more the subsidy more is sale in India and More revenue to arabs. If prices are realistic acoording to international rates unnessary demand can be kept under control.

But no one will listen to you my friend. Only way take away the subsidy completely away and give huge incentives to non-conventional energy sources. These subsidies by gov: it is paid not from politician pockets, but from taxpayer’s money. But none thinks. Politicians on the payroll of oil cartel fool people and make them dance to tunes of oil cartel.
Government should not put more emphasis on alternate energy sources.
1. Solar Energy: - We get sun shines most of the days everywhere in country - Most of our roofs are already available for putting big solar panels - With government subsidiary we can make solar panels affordable and manageable - This will create new jobs and industry
2. Water harvesting: For all our water issues, simple solution is water harvesting. Proper education, planning and government subsidiary in such home level projects, can help in improving these conditions considerably.
3. Wind Energy: Areas where there is sufficient winds flowing all thru year, we can make use of this technology as well
Overall, but using first 2 options, we can tackle most of our issue of Electricity and Water Shortage.
Solutions from government: 1. Cheap loans for installing alternate energy sources Solar Panels, Solar Water Heater, Solar Direct Lighting for inside home etc. 2. Providing education about how to use natural resources more efficiently. Sun light, Water harvesting etc 3. Making nation wide effort to change the way things are perceived and implemented.

solar energy is very expensive and only economical if there is no source of electricity nearby
Government should not put more emphasis on alternate energy sources.

and also spend billions of rupees on advertisements? Petrol is an essential commodity and should sell by itself.
