Every good innovation touches life for good and makes everybody grow. Every good idea is a step ahead for further innovation. I think huge population in India makes no, as such value of labor. Definitely labor at or below poverty line are miserable but in any field, I believe crowd makes no expected value to work. Still India is great.

Appreciating the discovery made for the rickshaw man. instead making learn and dicover new things like handcraft or other volumes of business oppurtunity. instead of making him to get less wage to get only a rickshaw for his ownership.
instead..make him learn things to make maoney and live like a normal salaried man..
we people will go in AC car, train,etc.. but he(daily wage people) still in below poverty and poverty borderline.
is this is the trademark we are providing to them. only in india labour have no value for their works. when this will be solved???

u yourself can not do any thing except bakwas.the same u r doing now
Dr. Sharma deserves a special award. This rickshaw will reduce global warming effect as it runs only on pedal power. It should not be confined only to Guwahati but should be encouraged by Government to ply all across the nation.
Innovation begins with small steps. I see a lot of comments indicating it as a insignificant achievement. The point is that someone cared. Even i have seen a lot of rickshaw pullers but it never occurred to me about their hardships. It never struck me. I have repaired many complex appliances and i have a knack to troubleshoot but i am no IIT. This guy has seen that and started something...that is important. The sowing of seeds of innovation is most important to bring up a culture of innovation.

doesn't require an IIT brain to do such stuff, problem is we don't care about this strata of population and none of our political leaders has balls left.
Mind you not all IIT graduates are intelligent and creative, only 15-20% in my opinion.

It may be a noble and pragmatic idea to empower the really poor, but Mr. Sarmah must not lie by saying that Copenhagen has lanes for rickshaws. Rickshaw pulling may provide a gainful opportunity to a poor man, but frankly it is against the basic tenets of humanity.

yes, but a man becomes a rickshaw puller or a laborer only when is forced by his circumstances, thousands of crores spent but we have such huge unemployment rates left, people are forced to do this stuff.

Which world do u live in? Yes.. it exists.. there are separate lanes for cycles in most major cities in the world. And no job is below human dignity if it provides you a livelihood. Living in slums with no means of support is beneath the basics of human dignity. Did you do a thing to help those people in need? I guess not. So don't complain or compare.

Even in China here there is separate lane for Rickshaws/bicycles..this is reality..nothing wrong..those who talk about humanity should find ways to make rickshaw pulling more comfortable...nobody thought about the plight of the rickshaw pullers..atleast Dr.Sharma has come forward, hats off to him !
It is heartening to know that Assam in the eastern part of the country has a tradition in innovation which dates back to thousands of years ago when silk was locally produced..or for that matter Assam tea was invented by ManiramDewan,an industrialist and tea planter who brought the tea plants from the SingphouTribes near the Assam-Arunachal border(unfortunately Dewan was hanged by the british as he turned out to be threat to their tea business)...
Then, now we read about Dr.Pradeep Sharma and his IITian friends..
We also read about Kanak Gogoi..an Assamese youngster who developed a hybrid car without gears that runs on solar power as well as petrol. It causes minimum pollution. Developed by Kanak Gogoi of Guwahati, Kanso has a 100-cc engine powered by four solar panels generating 320 watts of energy..
Then we hear about Udhav Bharali, who has 40 patents to his name and his pomegranate seeding and such other machines are even exported to Latin and North Americas...
We read about Indrani Medhi, finding a place in the list of fortune trail-blazers..who studied over 400 low-income subjects and spent over 450 hours in Indian slums, Filipino fishing villages, and South African farms and developed a low cost computer...
Great..I hope government of India develops the north-east with fast pace for the benefit of the nation....
