kochi never delivered what it promised, these are all hypes. Go and see Baroda and Ahmedabad and you would realise what progress is.
In sixty years before 1947, Britishers provided Rail network, aviation network, Road network through out the country.
In sixty years since 1947, Indian govt as provided Delhi Metro. Absolutely, no comparison.
Clearly, if Britishers had continued to rule, we would have had Metro in the country by long back. British was foreign rule but was better than Indian rule. End the end of the day, it is the efficiency that counts.

This is slave mentality. British were here for more than 250 years, they ruined more than they built. You can not say that in their absence we could not make rail system. Second, we took just 50 yrs to build a nation from slave nation. It takes time to build a nation, ask experts in the world including Britain, even they will be surprized with our progress, inspite of the fact that people trained here flee to US and UK.

Had the British been ruling us, you would not have had the freedom to write what you have written now. And on top of it, each such metro would have been carrying a sign board "Dogs and Indians not allowed". Would you have loved that? How can you think on compromising on your freedom for a metro? Your freedom is worth a metro !! Wow!!

Dear Gaurav, While I don't entirely agree with the original poster's views about the British rule, may I suggest that your statements are also not entirely correct? We did not get real freedom in 1947. What we got was only political Independence. Real freedom is first, economic freedom (as exemplified by Gandhiji's famous salt satyagraha) and second, social freedom. Unfortunately, we had gone back in the realm of economic freedom from 1947 to the early '90s and that is the primary cause of our backwardness till today. The nadir was when Indira Gandhi disfigured the constitution by inserting the word "socialism" through the 42nd amendment. The so-called liberalisation has come too late to do any real good.
These projects should have been started a long back to handle misery of citizens. At-least government recognised importance of local governance and allowed these projects to go ahead without controlling them from central government's Railway ministry.
no metro in pune ask q to ajit pawar and shard pawar. They have land there. They dont want any metro there. Punekar deserve this. They have elected pawar from city now they have pawar but no power of metro :)
