Kolkata metro and then a long gap
by amitava mukherjee on Oct 04, 2010 09:33 PM  | Hide replies

Its wonderful that Calcutta got metro when other cities did not feel the pressing need. Delhi metro was the culmination point...it opened the floodgate. And what quality and speed it delivered. Yes we need metro in most cities, as our traffic chaos is nightmerish. I hope we can produce a miracle to clear the garbage. Battle against garbage may be next agenda.

Gujarat and Tamilnadu
by halwa singh on Oct 04, 2010 09:11 PM

Gujarat and Tamilnadu are the most urbanized states in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka. Obviously it is cities in these states that would have the maximum metros. Kochi's metro is like its IPL franchisee. It will never be a serious contender. It is too small a city for a viable metro project.

Why not Bhubaneswar ?
by Amaresh Dash on Oct 04, 2010 07:28 PM  | Hide replies

If the Orissa government make a fisibility report to imlement METRO here in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack including Khurda, Jatni & Chowdwar ; then it will be more revenue-generated project than Kochi, Ahmedabad and the likes !

Is Mulayam Singh Yadav happy with all these developments ? Is he not worried that not a single metro line is dedicated to Muslims in India ? Is Man Mohan Singh well (without missing any sleep)?

Metro will be white elephant if..
by Hardik on Oct 04, 2010 06:40 PM

Metro will be white elephant if its construction cost won't be reduced. Fair should be affordable to poor and lower middle class if we want to make it success. There are 2 category of fair for metro in city like Ahmedabad. If it cost more then 2 wheeler, no one will use it.

When this BS fellow visited last ?
by pramod thapliyal on Oct 04, 2010 06:15 PM

I just happened to travel in the Delhi Metro today morning itself. The Kashmere Gate-Rajiv Chowk section was just impossible to jump on, and this scene was before 7AM ie very early morning. If more coaches are not added soon it is going to be like (in)famouse blue line. The ticket seller was not keen to return the change at Shashtri Nagar station and gave back only on insisting. Standards are certainly falling now.
